Kirk is a screen legend and the last of his era of Hollywood superstars.

I grew up watching his films, his and Chuck Heston, Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne, Robert Mitchum, Lee Marvin, Gregory Peck, Burt Lancaster, Henry Fonda, Tony Curtis, Paul Newman, Jack Lemmon, Cary Grant, Ernest Borgnine and many others of his era. All those guys are dead now and only Kirk remains...

Here he is a couple of days before his birthday:

Great actor.Love his films, but my favourite is still The Vikings!

One of my father's friend's was an extra on the film as a Viking, and he met Douglas when they were filming in Scandinavia and he told my father that he was so professional on the set but made all the extras feel at home! Met Tony Curtis too!

By the way does anyone remember Tough Guys,a film he made with Burt Lancaster in the eighties? Quite a hoot!

Respect!

Yeah the Vikings is one of my favourites of Kirk's too. And yeah I remember Tough Guys, I saw it when it came out back in 1986. I was just looking up his girlfriend from that picture Darlanne Fluegel, she's 58 now and pretty much retired since 1996.

Kirk was born in New York state so he'll be 100 in just a few hours. I didn't know this but he was born Issur Danielovitch of immigrant parents and had an impoverished childhood and 6 sisters.

He was originally cast in First Blood as Colonel Troutman. According to Sly in the DVD commentary, Kirk had some different ideas about what to do with some of the scenes. One scene in particular was towards the end: Kirk thought it'd be better if the Colonel knocked out Rambo ((the Colonel being the better soldier since he trained Rambo)) with the last scene being the Colonel driving away in the army truck [headband on] and Rambo tied up in the back. Sounds bad. But yeah, he quit and Richard Crenna was speedily brought in to take over the role. AND, in one scene you can see that the Colonel's uniform was a bit smaller for Crenna...because Crenna was much taller than Kirk (who had already been fitted for his costumes).

I feel i need to watch Paths of Glory to celebrate. :hail:

Yeah Kirk was later known as Izzy Demsky before he changed his name officially to Kirk Douglas. And his parents emigrated from what is present day Belarus.

It is sad he may out live Michael who has had his share of health problems

Michael looks like he's aged about 30 years in the last 5.

Well, he IS in his early 70s so he's not young or even late middle aged

I know but he looks 90.

Yeah even though he was supposed to be the "old guy" they made him look about 30 years younger than he actually looks.

He's always looked like a slightly softer version of his dad but he's getting to look even more like him as he gets older.
