Because it's hilarious. And it has the greatest ending of all-time.

You'll have to excuse my friend here, he's kind of stupid. The town is that way.

If I picked a film I'd later on realise I should have picked another one, and later on another one and so on and so on. All my picks would always be wrong. Thus I can't participate.

Honestly, this thread is a futile effort as I could list out a hundred movies rather quickly that I would consider masterpieces and it would be almost impossible to rank them.

And then someone would come along and completely disagree with me.

Yeah exactly.

It's a game. It's not meant to be definitive or defining. I enjoy compiling lists like this because I inevitably come across something I haven't heard or seen or something I have forgotten. I discover or rediscover. That's a plus in my book.

and also it allows me my sense of superiority. Such and such a person picked that horrible piece of shit. What an idiot.

Until that person is me then I am totally satisfied e.g. smug

Because I was going to put Blade Runner but Goose beat me to it, and since I'm thinking about Harrison Ford already, this popped into my head. Also, it's a perfect movie.

24) Star Trek: First Contact (KenJennings)

I'm going to go ahead and selfishly add this one to the top-25. The way I see it, First Contact is the best Star Trek movie; but beyond that, it's just an all around great film. I don't think there is any other movie I would be happier to watch at any given time. Jonathan Frakes (Commander Riker) stepped up as the director, using his knowlege of the franchize to make a relatively low budget sci-fi film look like an absolute smash blockbuster. This was one of the last Star Trek presentations to make wide scale use of physical models, and combined them with CGI to give the film a wonderful rich appearance. This film also contains wonderful acting from Patrick Stewart and Alfre Woodard, who's climactic conference room argument stands up as one of the greatest moments of drama in Star Trek history. As a Trekkie, this movie had everything I want; science, humanity, humor, drama, suspense and parable. It may be hard to objectively label as a top-25 movie of all time for everyone- but it absolutely is for me.

To this day the most moving animated (or non-animated) movie I have ever seen. I cannot watch this film without being overwhelmed by emotions and it gets richer, warmer and deeper the older I get.

Just because I was curious, I rated those flicks that I've seen on that list (21 out of 25 flicks) on a 0 to 4 scale. Those I didn't see I just excluded from the rating. The average came to 3.33. Pretty good I think. Nothing got a 0 or a 1 and (obviously) there were plenty of 4s.

Another reason for not bothering: as soon as you see a film in the list that you despise or feel is way overrated or over-celebrated, it completely derails the whole process and renders the list null and void and further participation is extremely hard to pursue.

Was it the Adam Sandler? That's what did it for me.

Well when you've got Dumb and Dumber in 3rd place can you really take it seriously anymore? And then I find Tom Hanks to be the most overrated actor of all time so anything with him in is going to torpedo the list as well. And that's just mentioning a couple.
