JohnnyBlaze
didacticism. Didacticism is the new pedantry. Sez you! :PIt was meant as a compliment! No you didn't. What you said was that didacticism has usurped pedantry in modern colloquy. Any idiot can see that! (NP's new book: "The Didactic Rider: Tales of a Pedant")"Pedant" and any form of that word is written on TRF as frequently as Neil writes about sedimentary rock in his books...too damn much!

Mithrandir
"Summers going fast, nights growing colder.Children growing up, old friends growing older." I am still very good friends with about 5-6 guys that have been Rush fans along with me for about 35 years. Our children are now older than we were when we first got into Rush, some much older. And me and my friends have grown older.....such nostalgic and sad lyrics..and they mean so much and hit home so hard.
Verena
I don't know if I can choose just one...however, the Hold Your Fire album is loaded with goodies, as far as heavy themes are concerned. Vapor Trials and Presto are two others that I'd cite as having very strong lyrics. VT is a strong album. A very dark album lyrically for obvious reasons, but with patches of hope. ceiling unlimited - world so wide - turn and turn againfeeling unlimited - still unsatisfied - changes never end This means more to me than Xanadu's lyrics; although Xanadu is very carefully structured and very clever, you never get a sense of what the writer is like. You get a cool story with well thought-out lines, but you don't really see the guy holding the pen, if this makes sense. There's more directness in VT I guess is what I'm trying to say, less "cleverness" (same with his drum parts), which helps me connect more with what he's written. :finbar:To me are Tears, Witch Hunt, Terriotories, The Pass, Scars, Avaiable Light, Peaceable Kingdom and the whole Hold Your Fire album. TheLountainofFamneth
Oh, what style of rhyming Can be better with obscenity A motionless telepathy Or simply our realizing Our world is quickly dyingAnd the heart is ever firingThat we shall be diviningEven with bad timingThe minds simply mimingThe power of revivingOf eras fallen out of trying The simple words a messBut yet we try to do our bestEven if its not the rest The body so divineI'm sure it will be fineIf we go on livingAnd forget about existingThe contamination of the brainIs much worse than a little cane The thoughts of anti-libertyWere never our realityThe simple musical remedyWill soon become a memorySo whats the point of robbery Our world is ending soonAround the bells of noonThe people like a monsoonWill just become the pastThe thoughts are like a blastThe limits are noneBut the hours are done The worlds by asunderThrough ol' humanities blunderWe die through he sound of thunder I hope you enjoyed these rhymesSomeday you may call these mineSo don't waste no timeYour days are outnumberingFrom our old past sunderingNothing will be anythingSo get on the goGo from to and froI'm running out of wordsSo I hope that I am heardThe simple direction of manWill fall into a caravanI hope that we will never bendBut however this is the end

Eel Yddeg
We're only immortal for a limited time. The hours tick away, the cells tick away... You can surrender without a prayer, but never really pray without surrenderYou can fight, fight without ever winning, but never really win without a fight. The Honest Man
A lot of great ones mentioned here! Here are a few I did not see posted... What you own is your own kingdom What you do is your own gloryWhat you love is your own powerWhat you do is your own storyIn your head is the answerLet it guide you alongLet your heart be the anchorAnd th beat of your song( Neil's first great verse in my opinion ) The fawn eyed girl with sun brown legs dances on the edge of his dreams ( OK not deep, but I love this line! ) You can't soothe pain with sympathy ( soooooo true! ) You can twist perception, but reality won't budge Who would hold the priceOn the heads of the innocent children For the want of immunity or a bowl of riceIf there is some immortal power to control the dice I didn't know the girlBut I knew her familyAll their lives where shattered in a nightmare of brutality Tried to cart on, tried to bear the agonyTried to hold some faith in the goodness of humanity You can't tell yourself how to feel( had to mention it again, soooo deep ) The snakes and arrows a child is heir to are enough to leave a thousand cuts My friends were dismayed to see me betrayedbut they knew they could never tell me The future disappears into memorywith only a moment betweenForever dwells in that momentHope is what remains to be seen We will pay the price,But we will not count the cost Edited March 29, 2017 by The Honest Man
