Look let us not have this silly comparison please, John Entwhistle set the standard and Geddy raised the bar to another level.

I've been revisiting my Who catalog lately and agree 102%.

But JE died in an orgy of cocaine and hookers in a hotel room

It was so sad wasn't it?

Erm.... hang on no it was OK

That is the way I would like to go.

Ask anyone - how would you rather die? In a chair in a old people's home with a tartan blanket in a pool of your own urine waiting for your next bowl of soup?

MMMMM...soup.

Well, whose pool of urine should I be waiting in besides my own?

RUSH is my all time favorite, but The Who is a close second. From a technical standpoint no other three piece bands can keep up with these two. All 3 in both bands virtuoso's. For the poll, I had to vot for The Ox, as great as Geddy is, you have to be a serious fan or accomplished musician to understand what Entwistle did for music and how is playing was the basis and the thunder for almost all of The Who's music.

John Entwistle. Geddy Lee would agree 100%, I am sure . :geddy:

Not just as bass players, but as well-rounded musicians and great vocalists. John can play several instruments, as can Geddy.

Both are great vocalists and great songwriters.

What you think? Which bassist is your pick?

I think The Ox is slightly better, in fact the best rock bassist of all time, Geddy can come closely second to him.

Don't worry King. The Ox blows Geddy away!

John is a better singer too.

Oh good, I found my original post.

Strange thing, watching a Jam concert, noticed similarities between Bruce Foxton and Geddy Lee's playing, Foxton saying his major influence was John Entwistle.

When? Where?

On the TV, an old concert. Both play Rickenbackers.

Foxton plays mostly mediocre bass lines with a pick and Geddy plays some awesome ones with his fingers, don't really see any similarities to be honest!

Mediocre, that's a bit harsh. I'm not a major Jam fan by the way, are you a bass player? If I was thinking of 'mediocre' then I would be thinking Status Quo or AC/DC bass lines. Edited by tas7
