The 5 drummers who make me want to play:

Keith Moon - so much energy, so much fun, and tons of 16th note triplets and crash cymbals all over the place

Buddy Rich - love him or hate him, he was/is the best (apologies to Marco Minneman)

Ringo Starr - he came up with perfect drum parts that supported and enhanced the songs. An innovative and musical drummer.

Elvin Jones - a force of nature. had a cameo in the corny "Zacharia" movie (Elvin shoots a guy, then works up a sweat with a short drum solo)

John French - yep, the Beefheart guy. Intense and innovative.

honorable mention:

Yogi Horton - who? I only know him from David Byrne's "Catherine Wheel" album. Interesting drum parts, like a cross between Steve Gadd and Andy Newmark...? sort of? kinda? i dunno...

technically brilliant:

Marco Minnemann - is there anything he can't do?

Jojo Mayer

Joe Morello - insane hand technique, and Take 5 has to be the most musical drum solo ever (sorry InnaGaddaDaVida)

Thomas Lang (not so musical though)

Mike Mangini

meg white

lars

You blow me away bath.

I would take Meg White over Lars anyday. Not a fan. Lars was and still is the weak link to Metallica. Lars should have been fired when the band let Mustaine go.

Seriously.

Short man with an ego with no sense of time.

James almost let Lars go many times.

Tony Williams!!

I saw him two years before he passed away at Yoshi's in Berkeley.

I was so blessed and so lucky to see him.

He had a white kit with orange hardware.

I will never forget it as long as live.

Mind-blowing.

Bitch's Brew Baby!

I'm surprised there isn't much love for Simon Phillips.

My other mentor.

Also Steve Gadd.

Hey Sully! Long time no type or talk.

Hope all is well! Miss you.

I am fine.

Who is Brann Dailor?

I could look it up but I will wait for you.

Hey, Earl! :hi:

Everything here is peachy!

Brann Dailor is the drummer for Mastodon. I would post some youtube links for you, but I can't from work. He's an insanely good drummer. But, in concert he is absolutely mind-blowing.

Well done whoever mentioned Dave Abbruzese. His work on the first Pearl Jam albums is incredible. Too bad he got involved with drugs and is now a fugitive from the police.
