This is fantastic. When I was in high school back in the 80s, Triumph and Rush were my favorite bands. Emmett and Alex were always two of my favorite guitarists, so this may be something special.

No it's not better than the original, not in any area. I don't think he's trying to beat it though, he's just paying homage.

Ok... instrumental its kinda good (far away from Rush tho). But his voice.... I dont like it at all...

I noticed on his site he was doing a few acoustic night of triumph shows. That would be kinda cool to see

I'm going to see him this Sat night in Plymouth, MA... which is how I stumbled across the fact he was doing the new album (saw it on his web site).

Being a fan doesn't mean you have to be a drooling sycophant. I always liked his voive, but the past five or so years he sounds appalling. There's a certain segment of this forum who can see that and admit it, while there's another who thinks he still sounds as great as he did in 1982. THAT is delusional.

What if they actually like the way he sounds now? Some newer fans (and older ones) here certainly do.

What if they sincerely think he sounds better now than before? I don't, but some here do.

Back in '82 I loved Geddy's voice. I thought he sounded awesome but nearly everyone in my class didn't agree with that opinion. They thought I was a bit delusional.

I caught Rik Emmett's show this past Saturday night and it was great. His voice may be lower but it's still in great form. And he still plays a mean guitar. He did a ton of Triumph tunes - Hold On, Fight The Good Fight, Magic power, Somebody's Out There and my favorite of the night - Suitcase Blues. He joked around and offered a few entertaining stories throughout the night. The best part was he came out about 30 minutes after the show to meet those of us who stuck around. He seems a like a good dude - he posed for pictures and signed stuff for people. If you get the chance to check him out, I highly recommend it!

Rik Emmett, the former guitarist and singer of Triumph, has a new album coming out that features Alex Lifeson on a couple of tracks, and a few tracks with James LaBrie. Also, there is one track that is a new Triumph song.
