Rushcon anyone?

As much as I'm rah-rah-rah-ing it, I'm not able to go either. In my case I'm starting a new job mid-october and don't feel it'd look very good if I already requested time off, and don't really feel justified in delaying start by three weeks. That probably wouldn't go over very well either. Ah well...we can hope it's not the last one. Those that can go though (and have never been) should, because it's really fun!

No way will this year's be the last. I'd bet money on it.

They don't say on the Rushcon site that it will be the last one. They said it will be the last one "for a while".

I've never been to one, and I have to say, it's something I'd love to do. I hope I'll be able to make it happen sometime.

I'm among these ones who will go to Canada and do many Rush related stuff someday. :yes:

*Meeeting friends;

* Goign at Rushcon;

* Doing rush activities;

* Going out about Rush;

* Rush, Rush and Rush!!

:rush: On!!!

I'll have some photos from RushCon this weekend and will post them here... I only hope that the official photog was not quick enough on the shutter button to catch me when I dropped my trousers to claim my "Best RUSH undergarment" prize at the Lotus Land tribute band show on Saturday night... I was sporting my 2112 boxers and joyously showed them off to claim my hologram disc copy of Roll the Bones!!! One of many very good times at RushCon 16!

Rock on!

:)

I see you & Digi of course. But I also see Signals1982 (or is it '83?) and his bro + Seiji. Seiji's hardcore. He goes every year doesn't he? Flying all the way from Sendai, Japan (I think) just for Rushcon?!! Hardcore! I talked to him briefly back in '07...and it was actually RIGHT BEFORE he did that Rush Karaoke thang onstage which is briefly shown on the BTLS DVD extra.

You've seen the photos, now some of the story of the weekend...

It started with the screening of "Time Stand Still". We had a private theater which was only RushCon and SRO/Anthem bodies. About 1/3 of the seating was reserved for SRO people. The wonderful surprise among those who were there from the SRO family were Alex and Geddy's mothers along with Geddy's brother, who helped produce the documentary we were all there to see. We RushCon folks were asked to give the SRO attendees their space so we only interacted at the Hard Rock after-party. I had the good fortune to meet both moms when I helped haul drinks to the SRO table ... Mr. Weinrib answered questions about the documentary at a Q & A session during the night. I met a producer who was going to be in the studio with Kim Mitchell in the next few days while I was hanging at the Hard Rock. It was a really great night...

On Friday,we hopped on a bus to check out Alex & Geddy's origins in Willowdale. We passed by the school where they met and the church where they first played and then stopped at The Lee Lifeson Art Park. The councilman responsible for the park told the tale of its beginnings nearly 20 years ago. The city started buying property to put in some kind of park but momentum stalled because some property owners would not sell to the city. The properties sat dormant for 15 years until somebody told this councilman that properties were going to be rented because nobody knew why the city owned them and they were just sitting there. He said, "No! We are putting in an art park there. You can't rent them!" With the extra money generated by developer contributions as the area grew, the additional needed properties were acquired and the plans for something were launched. However, there was no name to which the park was going to be dedicated. This councilman is a music fan ant decided he'd like to ask local native, Geddy Lee, if he'd be willing to accept the honor of having the park named after him. However, he couldn't get in touch with Geddy directly so though his wife and a PTA or some other crazy twist of connections, he got in touch with Geddy's wife who passed on the message. Eventually Ged's people called Willowdale's people and the wheels began to turn. Geddy wouldn't accept this honor if Alex was not included, so the park became The Lee Lifeson Art Park... This place is so beautiful and special. As a fan of the band, it means so much but if I lived here, I think I'd have to find a way to visit every day. In fact, since the Presidential election here in the USA, I may just move to Willowdale so that I can do just that... Friday ended with a "get to know you" RushCon cocktail gathering where we all shared our experiences and love of the band with one another...

I took a walk down to the Hockey Hall of Fame on Saturday morning before the RushCon walk over to the SRO/Anthem offices. There, we saw the hallowed halls of Rush history in all of its Gold and Platinum glory. I've been to RushCon before but have never made this tour in the past. I'm so glad I saw it during this visit. On the way home, I passed the greenhouse that I'm pretty sure must have been the video inspiration for The Garden in The Clockwork Angels tour experience, photos in an earlier post... We then headed to the charity auction in the afternoon. I bought a killer, very one-of-a-kind A Farewell to Kings banner (made by Jillian's mom) and shared more tales of being a RUSH fan with others of our ilk... good times...

The night and 2016 RushCon event wrapped up with a ROCKING tribute show by Lotus Land. They are definitely the most true to the original RUSH tribute I've seen. A 3-piece ensemble with vocals that are true to Ged which makes the show an exciting concert experience that any RUSH fan should enjoy thoroughly.... As I mentioned in an earlier post, I took home the "Best (only) Rush Undergarment" award for the night as I was sporting my 2112 boxers :) I'm still waiting to see if there are any photos of this momentous event...

The weekend was just a total WIN in all regards! It was so wonderful to get re-acquainted with old friends and to meet new friends; I'm a bit saddened that this may not happen again. However, I carry the memories with me and will be reminded of all these great times and people over and over and over and over again whenever this and many other Rush fan experiences come to mind... It is what it is and forever, each moment a memory in flight...

Rock on, my Rush friends... Rock ON!!!

Is there a story on how this came about? What does the logo signify?

:hi: Hi, ytse!

This is from Canada's Walk of Fame, in Toronto's entertainment district. These markers in the sidewalks are meant to recognize Canadians who excel in their respective fields, and the logo on the Rush star is for musicians. Here's a link to the section on Rush's 1999 induction in case you're interested--there are a few photos, too: http://www.canadaswalkoffame.com/inductees/1999/rush And here's a link to a map and list of all of the inductee stars, for anyone who might want to visit: http://www.canadaswalkoffame.com/inductees/inductee-star-map

Hi!

Sorry for the confusion. I thought it was from the art park due to Neil not signing (but he would have been out of commission in 1999 and I didn't put two and two together.) I knew they had a star on the Walk of Fame but I didn't recognize that this was it and I totally forgot that Neil wasn't involved.

Thanks for clearing that one up for me.
