A way for Rush to go out right

I think the boys should figure out a way to do one last mini tour and truly say farewell to their fans. I've heard Geddy mention that if this was indeed their last tour, he would have preferred to go out a little differently, and I'd guess Alex feels the same way. What we know is that Neil is cooked and has no interest in a tour the magnitude of the R40. I think Rush should put together 20-25 dates in the major North American cities, perhaps playing 2-4 nights each in Toronto, New York, LA, Chicago, Texas, etc so that it's not such a grind. They probably can't play 3 hours anymore so how about they scale it back to 90 minutes or so and have a "surprise" opening act for each city. We know the number of musicians and bands out there that would gladly play with Rush on their farewell tour. Foo Fighters, Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, etc. These would be major acts that would help fill in the time that Rush would have played. We know a Rush farewell tour would sell out everywhere with their new found popularity and it gives the boys a chance to put together some special things for a true farewell to the fans. And playing less time and less cities won't blow them out.

As to the live performance, I just don't think I could stomach any more negative criticism. Given the choice, I'd say new album please. Heavy sequels to 2112 or Hemispheres would be welcome (sensibly mixed and mastered, of course, to satisfy the audiophiles and others who care about such things).

As much as I would like to see them on tour, I just don't see it happening. At all. Now more music could definitely be a possibility. I've always wished they would do something again on the order of 2112 but make most of it instrumental. Geddys voice has just had it.

You are aware that Metallica, Foo Fighters and Pearl Jam are more popular than Rush and make no sense as openers, even if they were a surprise.

I thought we all had accepted Rush was done touring. Yeah, maybe they didn't go out the way some think they should have. But I'm fine with R40 being their last tour. I just don't think Neil will tour again unless he runs into major financial hardship.

For the ticket prices they would most likely charge, I damn well would want 3 hours, no break, no opener and no stupid videos.

Instead, although this would never happen because of finances, I'd love to hear re-recorded instrumental tracks to a lot of the older albums. Take something sterile-sounding like Caress of Steel and give it the 2016 treatment with added guitar parts. Better bass tone. Livelier drums. A better mix. Don't touch the vocals.

I think the best one could hope for is a new record. Or maybe, possibly a new tour with a new drummer, one that has been given Neil's blessing. Live at least, he's the most replaceable member.

and why? they owe us nothing....have earned their millions, given 40 yrs of great music.

one thing that really brings this home to me, aside from Neil's ongoing aches and pains is his age:

he just had another kid 7 or so yrs ago, what at age 56 or something...being mid 60s now or so

and at a late period in his life...he's probably not going to be around to become

a grand dad...so he wants to spend as much time with his family as he can....makes perfect sense

and i'm happy for him.

No. :rush: Would not be :rush: Without :Neil: .

I would not want to go see :rush: Live if they replace :Neil: , but if :Alex: Or :geddy: do something solo, that's fine.

Part of me definitely does not want Rush to tour again. I don't want to put up with the criticism of "Geddy can't sing anymore" or "Neil is an a-hole" or "Alex is fat" or "the new stuff sucks" or "the set list sucks" and on and on and on...

Why at all would any of that affect your enjoyment of a tour? I heard all of that for R40, and I still look at it as the best Rush show I've seen over the last 30 years. I've bitched in the past, mostly about the Time Machine Tour setlist, but to let anyone else's words affect how you enjoy a particular show is nonsense.

I am cool with it just ending to be honest but that's just me. If they put out one more album well produced I would be cool with that too...

It's separate from enjoying a tour. I just get tired of the constant negativity from some circles. But I'll always have the music...

To me, they have already "gone out right" with the R40 tour - that tour & set list was aimed at their long time fans, their humble Canadian way of saying thank you for all the years of support. They could have just as easily finished up the second leg of the CA tour and then announced 'that's all folks'.

The guys really owe us nothing beyond what they've already given us... 40+ years of some of the most amazing music ever created.

Live I can see your point. Studio wise Geddy really shined on Clockwork Angels.

Oh I have to see this 90 Minute setlist??

No seriously, everyone go make a 90 minute setlist...Not 100 minutes..Exactly 90

go ahead piece me a setlist of 12 songs and tell me about the $300 ticket prices.

Very few would even be interested once the word got out.

I'd rather see An evening with Geddy and Alex acoustically telling stories for 90 minutes on the casino circuit
