  1. Apparently a new book documenting all of Rush's tours is coming in October- just in time for Christmas!?! It looks very interesting, but I'm not sure about this title- did they really think Rush fans wouldn't notice the borrow of the Moody Blues lyric? (Thank you Danforth & Pape for the heads up!) From Amazon: Alex Lifeson, Geddy Lee, and Neil Peart performed together for the first time to an audience of 11,000 people in 1974. Forty years later, their last tour sold over 442,000 tickets. This is the story of everything in between. This is the story of Rush. Fondly known as the Holy Triumvirate, Rush is one of the top bands to shine through rock-and-roll history. Wandering the Face of the Earth covers Rush’s storied touring career, from their humble beginnings as a Toronto-area bar band playing middle school gymnasiums to their rise as one of the world’s most sought-after live acts, selling out massive arenas around the globe. This book includes every setlist, every opening act, and every noteworthy moment meticulously researched and vetted by the band themselves. This is THE must-have tour compendium for Rush fans. https://www.amazon.c...sr=8-1-fkmrnull
  2. Just saw this on my newsfeed!! Pretty exciting!!: https://www.loudersound.com/amp/news/rush-in-rio-to-launch-on-vinyl-for-the-very-first-time
  3. Does anyone have any articles or know of any interviews where a great songwriter has been asked how he/she wrote a great song? Like someone asking Paul McCartney how he wrote Hey Jude, or someone asking James Taylor how he wrote Fire And Rain. You see, as an architecture student, I spend some of my time learning about how the great architects conceived their great buildings, what the though processes were that they went through. Now I've learned a lot of this can be read by analyzing their buildings closely, but it becomes a lot easier to do with a professor asking you the right questions to get the right answers. Meanwhile, I may spend weeks analyzing an incredible song like Baba O'Reily, and come no closer to understanding how Pete Townshend wrote that masterpiece, only how it goes. So I want to know... How do you guys think great songwriters write great songs? Do you have any examples of interviews or articles where a great songwriter talks about the process behind writing a great song? What are their approaches?
  4. Is anyone planning on getting it? Or do you have it already? How does it sound? It's currently on sale at the Rush backstage club for $79.99. Amazon has it for $69.99. https://www.amazon.com/dp/6317437920?creativeASIN=6317437920&linkCode=w61&imprToken=AH-iTBVmkLD.dnuw8URyQA&slotNum=10&tag=rushisaband-20
  5. I'll start off with this. I never said anything about this to anyone for some reason... Back in the early 80's I was walking down this street at around 9 pm. It was a fairly busy street in the daytime but at night it was pretty quiet. So there I was walking down the street and all of a sudden I heard what sounded like RUSH! It was coming from the upstairs window of this house. It was 2112 blasting out! Temples of Syrinx! I stood around for a minute listening. Then a few minutes. l was looking around to see if anyone was coming. I felt like a stalker or a peeping tom! It looked like no one was around so I stayed there bobbing my head listening. I closed my eyes walking around outside this house and then this fat old lady suddenly emerged from this side street and I bumped right into her, that's how I knew she was fat because I couldn't see her properly! She said: "What do you think you're doing?" I quickly got out of there with RUSH 2112 still blaring behind me! And now my secret is finally out... :smoke:
  6. Title is pretty self-explanatory. What's your favorite Rush album? Also, you can rank every Rush album from 1-20 if you prefer (I do!) Sorry if this topic already exists, I looked it up and didn't see it so I decided to create it myself. *EDIT* Feedback isn't technically Rush, so include it if you like but the songs on that track were made by other artists. 19. Presto 18. Caress of Steel 17. Roll the Bones 16. Hold Your Fire 15. Rush 14. Fly By Night 13. Hemispheres 12. 2112 11. Signals 10. Counterparts 9. A Farewell to Kings 8. Moving Pictures 7. Power Windows 6. Grace Under Pressure 5. Permanent Waves 4. Test for Echo 3. Clockwork Angels 2. Snakes & Arrows 1. Vapor Trails
  7. I will be ranking every Rush original studio album. Each track will be rated as follows: Awful, Very Poor, Poor, Below Average, Average, Above Average, Good, Great, Superb Each album will be rated on a scale of 1 to 10. Feel free to give your input on each album and discuss why you like/dislike each album. Please keep it civilized and have fun!
  8. I am not a drummer (guitar), but to me, at least, the dynamics of Neil's kick and snare are quite disparate from album to album. On some of their offerings, I can barely hear the kick and/or the snare sounds like he's hitting a trash can lid. On other albums, the kick punches through so forcefully and/or the snare is like a small cannon or is super tight. IMHO, Counterparts has the best of both worlds~ A nice clear and forceful kick and a perfectly balanced snare. I'm interested to know which album has your favorite drum sound?
  9. Except that TRF members know the replacement drummer thing is out. . . strange article. Remember when RS used to have good writers like Chet Flippo and Mikal Gilmore? But here is the article anyway. . . https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/could-rush-continue-after-neil-peart-745690/?fbclid=IwAR1oMsi47TJKbI9eLEkam0AOdZybH7zDPGmjUlFxT6k1KOzB0hTSn59SaGc
  10. Musing on a Saturday morning and wondering what would Permanent Waves have looked like if the boys had done a full side epic version of Natural Science. What track/tracks would have been sacrificed if any? I'm thinking Jacob's Ladder would be the track that would be dropped as brilliant as it is.
  11. Paul Fairfield is a Philosopher at Queen's University and he recently published a short podcast praising Rush. It's about 11 minutes long. Today was crazy so I've only listened to about half and Dr. Fairfield kind of talks in a monotone (sorry) but here is the link if anyone likes podcasts or just listening at the computer! https://philosophycr...-crush-podcast/
  12. Geddy and Alex attended the Foo Fighters concert last night in Toronto. (No sign of Geddy's mom or Rod from Toronto in the photos, though!). Here is Geddy's Instagram post accompanying the photos he posted. Nice to see him with Alex again! geddyimagesA great big cheers to @foofighters and their super kind crew for an awesome show and much appreciated hospitality shown to myself and my bestie Alex last night in our hometown of Toronto. A truly great hang! Kudos to Taylor for that killer drum solo and for rockin' that Rush T shirt! #foofighters #sometimesgoodguysfinishfirst ! #RushFoos #Taylorrocks
  13. These three songs are built upon intriguing and difficult to follow staccato riffs, but which do you prefer?
  14. Lessons http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3jgmySKsNg
  15. tas7

    432Hz

Anyone else listening to these on Youtube. Being flooded with Rush songs at 432Hz, sound really good and interesting in the case of Xanadu which is unpitched so sounds like it would live.
  16. Am I the only one jonesing for some RUSH right about now? This usually happens about now for me. Its been nearly 3 years from that last fateful show in August of 2015 at the Forum in LA. Where they played my favorite Song Losing It. Now, I understand their desire to stop touring due to aging but what about some new music. Even a compilation of instrumentals with a few new Instruments thrown in would be nice. Anything really. RUSH has been the Soundtrack to my life and it feels life cant continue with out them. I've bought the Anniversary Disk to 2112 and Farewell to Kings but those were just a distraction really. I need some new RUSH! I mean Clockwork Angels was a masterpiece IMHO! Can you Imagine what would come next? :haz: :haz: :rush: :haz: :haz:
  17. Hi anyone thought about starting a RUSH FANS dating site , I for one since recently becoming single would like to find a lady who appreciates the finer aspects of life like RUSH
  18. Happy birthday to the man Alex once referred to as "the world's only true Rush fan" Mr. Geddy's Soul Patch! Shake Lee hand!

  20. ok this is kinda complicated..... - So the first letter is "A", so you think of a song title by Rush that starts with "A", I chose "Available Light", so I put that as one of the songs. - The next letter is "B" - BU2B, so I will put "available light" and "BU2B" as the songs to choose from. Available Light or BU2B - let's say someone chose available light, the person who chose it would have to put another song that starts with B or if there is no other song that starts with B, move onto the next letter which would be "C". - so the next person would put something like this Available light By-tor and the snow dog - as an example, lets jump to later in the game Far Cry Grand designs - someone chooses Far Cry - lets pretend Grand designs is the last song in the Letter G category - the next letter after G is H - The person chose Heresy - so the choices would be Far Cry and Heresy - also you have to use all the songs in the chosen letter before moving onto the next letter - also to make it less confusing, lets say no other songs with the same letter as the first choice so None of this: Lock and Key Lakeside Park - another explanation is: animate best I can -someone chose best I can over animate < - the person who chose would put another song in the letter "a" category since its not the last one < Vise Versa - so the person would put: < Alien Shore Best I Can Vise versa of This example: animate best i can -someone chose animate over best i can - the person who chose would put another song that started with B since its not the last one - so the person would put Animate BU2B Im not too good at explaining this mix of "Rush songs A-YYZ" and "This or That", so feel free to ask questions, anyways I'll start Animate BU2B
  21. There are certainly other albums (possibly by these same bands) which would fit well with those in this poll, but these are the three which I am or have been listening to for the uplifting vibe they give off (at least to me anyway) and for their very 80s pop-minded soundscapes. Commercial sure, but artful nonetheless. So which is your favorite? Yes - 90125 Genesis - Abacab Rush - Hold Your Fire Hoping the forum's Rush bias doesn't become overwhelming considering most folks' general dissatisfaction with HYF, though I'm pretty sure I know what Segue will be voting for, aside from probably also giving me a bunch of other great suggestions. ;) :P
  22. Despite the recent tragedy that destroyed about 2/3's of the complex, this will be a fun topic. Which Le Studio record was your favorite? This could be from Rush or any other artist that recorded there. My favorite is Presto. Love the ambient textures in the album, Rush had some great ideas at the time. May Le Studio's far side rest in peace...
  23. Why, please the gods, do I wake up each morning with a Rush song playing in my head? Or if I haven't slept, still be awake. This morning it's YYZ. It has been recently Natural Science, Bavado, Bastille Day, Roll the Bones, etc. and it has nothing to do with what music I have listened to the previous day, which yesterday ranged from Peter Gabriel, Chris Connell, the Foo Fighters and the Police. My brain's in a Rush rut. It's not unpleasant but it's weird.
  24. I will be posting my reviews of Rush's studio albums. Tell me whether you agree or disagree with my thoughts on each album. Keep in mind I will be posting a rating at the bottom of each linked article, my thoughts have changed since I wrote some of these.
  25. Before I got absorbed by Rushmania, I bounced around among a lot of groups. I was never a metal fan except for Deep Purple, early Led Zep, and Def Leppard. The rest were not complicated enough. I collected off-beat bands through the 70's and 80's, from the Cars to Nerfherder to Timbuk3, with Rush a constant. Then I moved to Australia and adopted a lot of Aussie bands from Mondo Rock to Powderfinger to Eskimo Joe. In the 2000's I liked Coldplay and even invested considerable time and effort in seeing them live in Sydney. I've been listening to nothing but Rush for quite a while now and decided to tidy up my iPod to get rid of stuff with no staying power. I listened to Coldplay again and wondered what hell I ever saw (or heard) in them. Yes, some catchy tunes but how simplistic! Where are the weird time signatures and literate lyrics? Too many love songs and nothing about free will or randomness of life or even the birth of the atom bomb. Forgive me Rush for going astray but I'm back forever in your thrall!
