  1. Just curious. This has probably been asked before, but I have never seen a topic like it while I have been a member. For me, its a tie between Subdivisions (Accurate video, and I love the trope of someone watching the band on TV), and The Big Money (Favorite Song, mixed with some awesome 80s CGI) I did not make this topic a poll due to the fact that some people might consider promotional live clips and lyric videos as music videos, while others may not, so I though everyone could share casually. Discuss.
  2. Only use songs from Rush to Presto! Have fun :D Fountain of Lamneth La Villa Strangiato
  3. https://www.louderso...h-tribute-album RUSHfest launches charity Rush tribute album By Jerry Ewing (Prog) a day ago Scottish Rush festival launches charity tribute album with cover designed by Hugh Syme (Image credit: RUSHfest) RUShfest, the annual Scottish Rush festival, are to launch a charity Rush tribute album, and they've got Rush album cover designer Hugh Syme on board to create the artwork. Tribute - Songs For Neil Vol. 1 will be released on September 12, which would have been the late Rush drummer Neil Peart's birthday. All profits from the album will go to Cancer Support Scotland (UK) and Glioblastoma Foundation Neil Peart Research Award (USA). The album features 12 covers of Rush songs, including Canadian singer songwriter Jacob Moon's version of Subdivisions (you can watch the video below) and Brazilian prog rock duo Fleesh who covered The Garden, and from Rush tribute bands from around the world, including Scotland's The Macallan Project, Italy's La Villa Strangiato, Canada's New World Men and Far & Near from the UK. "Rush continue to be an inspiration to musicians worldwide," RUSHfest organiser Steve Brown tells Prog. "This album showcases some of the best. That old imitation/flattery cliche rings true here. Everyone involved has taken part because they love the band. Soundtrack to our lives? You bet. "Our main event was cancelled this year - as was every other gig! - but our online event in June was a great success, raising over £8,500 for charity. On the back of that, and with some lockdown inspiration the idea for a tribute album came to mind. Having organised RFS since 2014 I've been in touch with a lot of Rush tribute bands over the years - I play in one myself. "The call was put out on social media - bands got in touch. This album had to be produced in a short timescale so only those with quality recordings made the shortlist. " All going well RUSHfest Scotland will be back in May 2021 - with Jacob Moon, Hugh Syme and Terry Brown as VIPs. A second volume of covers is planned for March 2021. Pre-order Tribute - Songs For Neil Vol. 1. Tribute - Songs For Neil Vol. 1 - Various Artists 1. Far Cry - The Macallan Project 2. Subdivsions - Jacob Moon 3. The Trees - New World Men 4. 4. Any amount of songs from each album is good. Here's mine: Subdivisions The Analog Kid Turn the Page Middletown Dreams New World Man The Big Money Lock and Key Marathon Chemistry Prime Mover
  5. this is somewhat of a joke topic, but I'll start it "80's or 90's this or that rush song" "roll the bones - present this or that rush song"

Caress Of Steel I expect some backlash about putting 2112 relatively low. I love 2112 the song and Something For Nothing, but the album as whole is what I'm ranking it off of, not two fantastic songs.
  7. Hi everyone, Hope you're all well in this mad world at the moment. My friend and I, big Rush fans based in the UK, have a small podcast series and a week or so after the tragic events in January, we recorded a retrospective tribute to Neil, going through each album and giving our thoughts. If anyone is interested in giving them a listen, the links are below: Part One - 1974 - 1981 Part Two - 1982 - 2015 Even if you don't agree with us, I hope you enjoy the listen! Thanks HWTAT
  8. Once you RUSH posers get your hands on the new RUSH Vapor Trails remix edition, will it mean the end of the road for your VT 2002 copy? Or will you find yourself sticking with the old one??? Only time will tell of course, but what is your feeling right now based on the two VT song remixes from a while back? :hi: :hi: :hi: :hi: :hi: :guitar:
  9. Thanks Danforth & Pape for posting this on FB- "Last night The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television (the Canadian Academy) held their annual awards ceremony at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto. And Rush: Time Stand Still won the award for best Biography or Arts Documentary Programme!!! HUGE Congrats to Dave Bidini, Allan Weinrib, Dale Heslip, Ole, Zoë Records, Fadoo Productions, Pegi Cecconi, Ray Danniels, Corey Russell, John Virant, Miller and Mark Utley and of course, the stars of the show, Dirk, Lerxst and Pratt."
  10. RUSH guitarist Alex Lifeson says that he will spend the next 14 days "self-quarantining" to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. Earlier today, Lifeson took to RUSH's official Twitter to write: "Just returned from Spring Break with my gKids. We are all self quarantining for 14 days. All travellers should. Looking forward to getting caught up on Netflix!! Send your top viewing suggestions. – Alex" The province of Ontario, where Alex lives, currently has the largest number of COVID-19 cases in Canada. On Saturday, Ontario reported 24 new cases, the highest daily increase since the outbreak began, bringing the total number of cases to 103. There have been more than 169,000 confirmed cases and more than 6,000 deaths so far, putting public health systems and emergency services under immense pressure. Officials have made it clear that the elderly — especially those with heart, lung and immunological conditions — are particularly vulnerable to the coronavirus, with at least 25 deaths linked to one nursing home in Washington. In Italy, which has one of the oldest populations in the world, one hundred percent of the people who have died have been over 60, and the vast majority over 80

  12. https://www.loudersound.com/features/the-50-best-rock-albums-of-the-decade/5 1. Rush - Clockwork Angels (2012) For a band whose US album sales are right up there with the Beatles and the Stones, Rush keep a pretty low profile. But in just the past decade, their mainstream status has noticeably shifted. Having been deeply absorbed by popular culture, 50 years in, Rush have reaped the rewards for being themselves. And with this cultural rebirth, a creative one. 2007’s Snakes & Arrows was a convincing musical statement, with new producer Nick Raskulinecz encouraging the band to take chances and reconnect with their essence as a progressive rock band. And what better way to seal the deal than to follow that up with their first full concept album. Neil Peart’s story for Clockwork Angels percolated through many literary seams, notably steampunk. Filtered through the Victorian fiction of HG Wells and Jules Verne, this idea of ‘a future as seen from the past’, had been championed by writers including Peart’s friend, Kevin J Anderson. On Rush’s 20th album this was used, as the drummer put it, to “tell a story set in an alternate timeline, with alchemy, clockwork, and steampunkery”. So, we followed a character on a quest through an antique sci-fi world teeming with pirates, anarchists, explorers and carnival dwellers. It was a heady theme, and Rush cranked up their nonpareil power trio smarts to set it to some of their toughest music. Caravan set a swaggering, funky tone. ‘I can’t stop thinking big,’ sang Geddy Lee, establishing the character and the world ‘lit only by fire’. Alex Lifeson’s swathes of crunchy tone and a blues-drenched solo backed this up. Hewn from the type of riff Muse would kill for, BU2B set the story on a cosmological scale, its hard, hyperactive groove leading to the title track, which floated in on exotic tones and shimmering clean guitars before bursting into life. It was a thoroughly modern record but, as ever, Peart’s ear for the mythic added Xanadu-like grandeur to the music. Seven Cities Of Gold was inspired by tales of Spanish conquistadors, and it was a monolithic, shifting rocker that heralded the character’s entry into the belly of the beast, El Dorado. Blessed with beautiful clean lines and a refrain that ‘Sometimes you have to be wary of the miracle too good to be true’, The Wreckers was accessible, with a light, major-key simplicity (not bad for a song inspired by pirates who deliberately ran ships aground). Marvel at Clockwork Angels for one or all of its many levels: its literary depth and steampunk cool; its creators’ unity of purpose and preternatural musical sense; its lip-curling rock grooves and girthy production. In the blue sky of their creative Indian summer, and with a cultural tailwind behind them, Rush channelled the impulse that made them so special all along on a modern progressive album which sat right up there in their canon. Our score: 9/10 http://audioinkradio.com/2019/12/best-albums-decade-rock-metal-2010s/ 1. Judas Priest, “Redeemer of Souls” Judas Priest has been crafting towering metal music for nearly five decades, and they’re still putting out some of their best work. Of course, “Firepower” is an incredible record, but “Redeemer of Souls” has that old-school Priest vibe. “Redeemer of Souls,” which came out in 2014, showcases Rob Halford’s vocals, which are stronger than ever, and an incredible assault of instrumentals, including guitarist Richie Faulkner’s contributions for the first time. With the perfect mix of emotion and skill, “Redeemer of Souls” is a heroic cry to keep metal at the forefront of music, and for that, it’s Audio Ink’s top album of the decade.
  13. Yes, i know that rush is taking a year off from touring. However i still see them doing a late fortieth anniversary tour (R40 anyone?) when they return. So how should we spend this upcoming year while we wait for Rush to return? By creating the best setlists for the next tour. R30 was great, but they really focused on stuff from the late 80s and 90s, as well as their cover songs from feedback. This next tour should include songs from their early albums, as well as songs they havent played in a while (seriously, name the last time they played fly by night!). So heres my ultimate setlist, dominated with 70s and 80s classics, but still having more recent stuff peppered here and there. Set one Bastille day Time stand still Roll the bones Lessons OR making memories Vital signs One little victory Limelight The trees Subdivisions Medley combining cygnus x-1 and hemispheres Far cry Set two Tom sawyer Closer to the heart In the mood/drum solo Caravan Fly by night Farewell to kings YYZ Animate Spirit of radio Working man Red barchetta La villa strangiato (with polka intro from time machine tour) Encore Passage to bangkok Red sector A 2112 (overture+finale) Marathon

    Jeddie Speaks

During a June 10 question-and-answer session at Manchester, England's Dancehouse Theatre, Geddy Lee was asked if there are any songs in the RUSH back catalog that he wishes he could go back and redo. The bassist/vocalist responded: "Oh, God. Probably the longer I looked, the more I would find. It's funny what happens in time — when you finish a record… I'm a harsh judge of a record I just finished. And then you go through this period where you go, 'Oh…' You've taken a month away from it, you're out on tour and you're learning the songs and you hear it on the radio and you go, 'Oh, that was better than I thought t was.' And then time travels at quite an alarming rate, and, for me, when I look back at the very old stuff, I hear things that I couldn't possibly have heard about those songs. So when I look at the earliest records, of course, there are a few things that I would rather have redone at the time, but you can't change the past. And I tend to appreciate it more than I thought I would. There are very few I would really go back and change again, because I don't think that's the way it works."
  15. Happy 66th birthday to Geddy, and happy 45th anniversary to the new guy! Neil joined the band 45 years ago today, in 1974. The guys bought equipment for their first tour the next day and they were off! (I wish that I could live it all again!).
  16. It is an album that I have been obsessed with for a bit now and is one of my favorite Genesis albums. I'm curious to know your thoughts on it, favorite songs? Parts?
  17. From an article on Blabbermouth.net- "Steel drum orchestra Pan Rocks will enter the studio this fall to record its tribute to RUSH. Mike Portnoy (SONS OF APOLLO, THE WINERY DOGS, DREAM THEATER) will handle drumming duties. The bassist and guitarist will be announced in the coming weeks. . . . " . . .Pan Rocks is a 50-to-100-plus-piece steel drum orchestra founded by rock steelpannist Tracy Thornton. The RUSH recording is a follow up to the 2017 Pan Rocks "Project LA", which featured the music of LED ZEPPELIN, KISS and JANE'S ADDICTION . . ." Link to the article- http://www.blabbermo...av5j-A.facebook I can't really imagine what that would sound like with Rush, but here is the previous version of Pan Rocks doing Led Zep's Immigrant Song- I'm still trying to make up my mind! It's an interesting sound but reminds me of the whole "Pickin On . . ." series where they do instrumental bluegrass versions of Led Zeppelin or whatever group. The sound is pleasant but so far removed from the original recording that it's a little strange to listen to . . :P
  18. Did anyone notice this Easter Egg in Far from Home? Half way through the movie they show a concrete Rush Star on the floor and then right after Spiderman falls on it just like Starman. It was like "Man that looks just like the Rush 2112 Star, then Boom Spiderman falls on it just like the Rush Emblem. its very quick but there!
  19. I saw a post on a FaceBook RUSH fan page about the Toyota RUSH vehicle. It seems the RUSH is only available in Asia. This SUV looks a bit like the Sienna that I drive so I went looking for one of the logo plates from the RUSH to paste onto my Sienna here in the USA. I found them but only from China and with a pretty hefty shipping cost for a cheap plastic logo. To mitigate the shipping I bought a few extras of the logo plate in hopes I'd find other RUSH fans who might like this for their car or other application. The plate is 6-3/4" x 1-1/4" in size, chrome silver plastic with strong adhesive intended for all-weather sticky for use on an auto body. If you want one for $7.50, or have questions about this item, drop me a PM here and we can figure out the details. Rock on!
  20. These are kind of cute, The set is a big deal among some Rush fans. It was only available last year at some Toronto comic con thing but now pre orders can be made for July shipping. Order now and resell later on eBay for hundreds! https://www.bigapple...ASABEgKUDPD_BwE https://www.ebay.com...tEAAOSwPphc33M5
