  1. It seems to me this forum gets very excited any time a classic artist who has been dormant or inconsistent for a long time releases something new that actually lives up to their classic material. We've seen it with Judas Priest's Firepower, Styx's The Mission and Crash Of The Crown, Rush's own Clockwork Angels, and more. But who do you think really had the greatest late career revitalization?
  2. I know, I know, the prevailing opinion is Coldplay sucks and especially anything they did after their first two albums. And I know Kansas is well loved on here, especially those first five albums...but I'm taking Coldplay for this one. Icarus will take the song face off though.
  3. The RPG is finally realizing Queen exists in the past week or so. Shame I haven’t been able to make up my mind in any of the polls yet, but this one I’m pretty sure of! Leftoverture beats out The Game on account of being a whole masterpiece versus half of one. But of course Queen takes home the band trophy.
  4. Which of these two songs about that old Greek mythological character do you prefer?
  5. Two bands that started their recording career in 1974. In this case though it's the POINT albums we're looking at: POINT of Entry vs POINT of Know Return, which is your favourite of these, or which is the better of the two?
  6. This is how I rank them based on how good each album sounds to me, after decades of listening in most cases. 2-5 is very close, that 4 album order is always changing, this is how I have it now. 1. Leftoverture 2. Masque 3. Point of Know Return 4. Song For America 5. Kansas 6. Vinyl Confessions 7. Power 8. Drastic Measures 9. The Prelude Implicit 10. Monolith 11. Audio-Visions 12. In the Spirit of Things 13. Somewhere to Elsewhere 14. Freaks of Nature 15. Always Never the Same Make your list and vote in the poll which is a different question.
  7. KANSAS, America's legendary progressive rock band, will release its new studio album, "The Absence Of Presence", on June 26 via InsideOut Music. The LP follows 2016's "The Prelude Implicit", which debuted at No. 14 on the Billboard 200 chart. "The Absence Of Presence" features nine all-new tracks written by KANSAS, produced by Zak Rizvi, and co-produced by Phil Ehart and Richard Williams. KANSAS's signature sound is unmistakable throughout. The album showcases Ronnie Platt's towering vocals, David Ragsdale's searing violin, Tom Brislin's dazzling keyboards, Williams and Rizvi's electrifying guitar riffs, Ehart's powerful drums, and Billy Greer's rocking bass. "We are really proud of the album 'The Absence Of Presence'," comments KANSAS guitarist, producer, and songwriter Zak Rizvi. "Making a new KANSAS album sets a very high musical standard that is expected from our fans. From rockers, to progressive epics, to ballads, there is something on this recording for everybody." This fall, KANSAS will be taking its very popular "Point Of Know Return" anniversary tour to Europe for 13 dates in October and November. The "Point of Know Return" anniversary European tour will include songs from "The Absence Of Presence", classic hits and deep cuts, and will culminate with the iconic album "Point Of Know Return" performed in its entirety. "It's been a while since the band has been able to perform in Europe, where we have some very passionate fans," adds KANSAS guitarist Richard Williams. "We are excited to take the 'Point Of Know Return' anniversary tour across Europe. Not only will they hear us perform that album in its entirety, along with other hits and deep cuts, but they will be the first fans to hear some of the songs from 'The Absence Of Presence' performed live." KANSAS has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, and is famous for classic hits such as "Carry On Wayward Son" and "Dust In The Wind' to progressive epics like "Song For America". After wrapping-up current U.S. dates for the "Point Of Know Return" anniversary tour this spring, KANSAS will debut a track from "The Absence Of Presence" live this summer during the "Juke Box Heroes" 2020 tour when the band will hit the road with FOREIGNER and EUROPE. Tickets for the KANSAS "Point of Know Return" anniversary European tour will go on sale this week. http://www.kansasband.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/TAOP-Vinyl-front-cover-1024x1024.jpg
  8. These three songs are built upon intriguing and difficult to follow staccato riffs, but which do you prefer?
  9. http://assets.blabbermouth.net.s3.amazonaws.com/media/kansasoverturelive.jpg KANSAS, America's legendary progressive rock band, will release its new live album "Leftoverture Live & Beyond", on November 3. This is the first live album since 2009 for the band that has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, and is famous for classic hits such as "Carry On Wayward Son" and "Dust In The Wind", as well as progressive epics like "Miracles Out Of Nowhere". "Leftoverture Live & Beyond", produced by Jeff Glixman, features nineteen songs selected from twelve shows recorded during KANSAS's spring 2017 "Leftoverture 40th Anniversary Tour". The set list includes classic hits, deep cuts, new songs from 2016's studio album "The Prelude Implicit" and culminates with the band's sextuple-platinum breakthrough album, "Leftoverture", performed in its entirety. Coinciding with the 40th anniversary of "Leftoverture" and the release of "The Prelude Implicit", KANSAS embarked on their biggest headlining tour in decades. The overwhelming success of that tour led the band, along with InsideOut Music, to release selected songs from the tour as a live album. "When we saw how much our fans enjoyed the 'Leftoverture 40th Anniversary Tour' shows, we knew we had to record a live album," said KANSAS drummer Phil Ehart. "When it came to finding someone to produce it, we thought the best possible person would be the guy that produced 'Leftoverture' forty years ago. So, we called Jeff Glixman!" "I'm really excited with how this live album sounds," adds Glixman. "This band is on fire. Producing this live album was truly an undertaking, but I am confident that KANSAS fans will enjoy the end result." "Leftoverture Live & Beyond" will be distributed by The Orchard. The album will be available as a double CD digipak, four 180-gram-vinyl boxed set, and digitally on iTunes and Google Play. "Leftoverture Live & Beyond" track listing: 01. Icarus II 02. Icarus 03. 10. JUNE 21st , 2016 - KANSAS, America’s legendary progressive rock band, will release their intensely anticipated new studio album “The Prelude Implicit” on September 23, 2016. The album is the first new release in 16 years for the band that has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, and is famous for classic hits such as ‘Carry On Wayward Son’ and ‘Dust In the Wind,’ to progressive epics like ‘Song for America’ and ‘Miracles Out of Nowhere.’ “The Prelude Implicit” features 10 all new tracks written by the band and co-produced by Zak Rizvi, Phil Ehart, and Richard Williams. KANSAS’s signature sound is evident throughout the album. It showcases Ronnie Platt’s soaring lead vocals, David Ragsdale’s blistering violin, Williams and Rizvi’s rocking guitar riffs, the unmistakable sound of David Manion’s B3 organ and keyboards, Ehart’s thundering drums, and Billy Greer’s driving bass and vocals. KANSAS returned to the studio in January 2016 after signing with Inside Out Music. Says Inside Out founder and president Thomas Waber, “KANSAS is the biggest and most important Prog band to come out of the United States. I grew up listening to them, and their music is part of my DNA. ‘The Prelude Implicit’ undoubtedly adds to their already impressive musical legacy. I can’t stop listening to it, and we are proud to be releasing the album.” The result of the time in the studio was even more than the band imagined. “This is definitely a KANSAS album,” remarks original guitarist Richard Williams. “Whether it is the trademark Prog epic like ‘The Voyage of Eight Eighteen,’ biting rocker such as ‘Rhythm in the Spirit,’ or mindful ballad like ‘The Unsung Heroes,’ there is something on this album for every kind of KANSAS fan. After years of pent-up creativity, the entire band is very proud of ‘The Prelude Implicit.’” Lead Vocalist Ronnie Platt adds, “Recording ‘The Prelude Implicit’ was an incredible experience, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. It is my hope that, knowing the intense listeners that KANSAS fans are, the continuity yet diversity of this album will be pleasing to them.” The album title, The Prelude Implicit means, "Without a doubt, this is a new musical beginning," explains Ehart. Tattoo artist, Denise de la Cerda, did the oil painting of the front and back cover. “It shows a Phoenix flying from the past into the future.” “The Prelude Implicit” will be released September 23, 2016, on Inside Out Music and is distributed by RED.
