  1. I consider myself to be an old-school Rush fanatic, that is, I absolutely love their first 8 albums...Excellent material. (I am sure there are some of you that will consider an "old-school" love of their music to encompass, perhaps, less or more than their first 8 albums). In any event, I consider the next grouping of albums through CP to be great material (with the exception of Presto/RTB... just good material). After CP, it my personal opinion that Test4Music is passable at best and that VT and S&A are detritus (except for maybe one or two songs between the two of them). My real point is that when I first heard CA, I lumped it in with VT and S&A. I know that prior to first hearing it, I had pre-judged the album. Subsequently, I forced myself to listen to CA again and again with no more than a tepid reaction. However, after a few recent spins of CA, I have come to believe that it is a super album. I think my epiphany stems from the fact that I had a closed mind going in to each listen of the album. For what it's worth, I now love CA and consider it to be one of their great works, although I still cannot stomach T4Music (except for Virtuality) and I run from VT or S&A. What was your first reaction to CA?
  2. So recently I became aware that some of the Songs for the Album and DVD were filmed in San Antonio at the AT&T Center. My Dad and Brother were at that concert, and just out of curiosity I was wondering If anyone knows what songs were filmed there so I could tell them. I know the DVD was mainly filmed in Dallas at the American Airlines Center, and the bonus tracks are from Phoenix. If anyone knows and can tell me that would be awesome.
  3. Given the lack of originality in Hollywood, perhaps the Clockwork Angels universe will finally make it to film ... http://news.cygnus-x1.net/2018/10/clockwork-lives-optioned-for-tv-film.html Imagine the soundtrack!
  4. What Rush album do you identify with the most? Meaning, as far as lyrics regarding your situations, feelings of the moment, your story, etc. The one I identify with the most is "Clockwork Angels". I want to travel and see the world, learn new things, be non-conformist from old beliefs (BU2B). I've also learned not to hold grudges against people for bad things they did to me (Wish them Well, even though that song is trashed by fans here), as well as reflection in hoping one day I tell my future children about journey. What about you?
  5. Clockwork Angels came out almost exactly two years ago. I loved it at first listen and must have heard it 25 times in the couple weeks that followed. At the time I considered it to be in my top 5 Rush albums, and possibly in my top 3, but I did wonder if it would stand the test of time. I listened to CA a lot in the months after it was released and although I've heard individual songs as they've popped up on iTunes it's been 6-12 months since I've listened to it in its entirety. (I'll often take a break from albums after hearing them 10, 50, or 100 times so I don't get burned out.) This last weekend I travelled to visit a friend and thought this would be a good time to revisit CA and see if it stood the test of time. You know what? It did, for me at least. I listened to the album 5 or 6 or 7 times and I was still excited about it. I think it's a phenomenal album. What about you? Have you listened to Clockwork Angels lately? Has it stood the test of time for you?
  6. I posted this in the other thread that we have for setlists below, but I'm really interested to start a discussion on realistic AND fantastical ones sets as opposed to purely sentimental ones or those on someone's dreamline. As you'll see below, I love making rush puns. Here's my Setlist! It's both fantastical and realistic. At the beginning there were too many hands on my time, too many feelings,... Too many things on my mind. However, in the end, I detached and subdivided it over and over, but now I'm happy and would endlessly rock to it any day. Don't be afraid to give feedback on my setlist, as I can't stop thinking Big, and would enjoy others telling me what they think just between us. So here goes it. Set 1 R41 Overture - Working Man - Anthem - Bastille Day - Making Memories - What You're Doing *leading straight from the solo towards the end into the opening song* Far Cry Driven Earthshine Kid Gloves Red Tide Nobody's Hero Malignant Narcissism Drum Solo Secret Touch Closer to The Heart Second Nature Emotion Detector Headlong Flight -- Intermission -- Act 2 Spirit Of Radio Free will Jacob's Ladder Entre Nous Different Strings Natural Science Afterimage The Twilight Zone (ambitious, I know) YYZ Resist Broon's Bane The Trees Mystic Rhythms The Enemy Within Losing It (ambitious Part II) Everyday Glory Tom Sawyer -- Encore -- 2112 (Overture, Temples, Finale) La Villa Fly By Night** ** Alex talked about how he'd like to do a heavier version of FBN so assuming they do, that's where I'd put it. What do you think?

    Rush Platinum awards

Haven't seen a thread on this anywhere but from time to time I check RIAA for any sign of Rush's audit of their gold and platinum awards. Just been on and noticed that in May 2014 Clockwork Angels video was awarded Platinum and Time Machine was awarded 2x platinum.

  9. I am debating between Clockwork Angels and Fly By Night to be their hardest albums IMO. What do you guys think is their hardest, most metal-like album?
  10. I've still not heard the VT Remix yet, so I can't comment. You know the albums, you know songs by now, so does the VT Remix change your opinion? Does VT now beat out Clockwork Angels? Does it close the gap, does it open up a bigger gap? Have at it... :hail:
  11. Yeeah..... Are there any making of clockwork angels videos out there?
  12. Hey guys. I bet this is a dumb question, but there is no audio cd I can rip to my computer if I buy the DVD or Bluray, right? Basically, if i wanted to listen to it in the car, I would have to buy the cd, correct? I want the Bluray, but I feel like I would get more use out of the cd...
  13. Kevin J. Anderson, the author of the Clockwork Angels novel announced that he will have major Clockwork Angels news in a few days. http://31.media.tumblr.com/a34c724562451947ef8650d01b8d60bf/tumblr_mwjb3v4zgD1s4zroko1_500.jpg What do you guys think the news could be?
  14. So, hot on the heels of the Album Rankings thread, I'm wondering why not many people have ranked Clockwork Angels as one of their favourite Rush albums. Personally I think it's their best album since 1980, and possibly their best ever. If you don't think so, why not? (I'm just curious.)
  15. Just gotta give my two cents to what was perhaps one of the greatest Rush Concerts ever put on. As everyone predicted the small arena made the Sound Quality spectacular beyond compare. Every note was crystal clear and not muffled in any way (not counting when it's supposed to sound muffled) and Geddy's voice was almost perfect, especially on subdivisions which sounded so close to the album it was mind blowing. Though the concert had a minor flub or two, and I had a personal bad experience with a drunk guy just getting into my car that would not leave and got grabby when I shouted for help (thanks mystery rush fans that helped), the concert could only compare to me hearing the set for the first time in Winnipeg under complete surprise. Other highlights include the fact that though the set was A, Limelight was played (Body Electric is not a personal favorite), and the other 3 songs (all of which I prefer their B variants by a tiny bit) were played magnificently (particularly the solo at the end of Bravado), the hall was more compact, so it had more hard-core Rush Fans (I swear I heard singing for their big hits), I had a seat which gave a full view of the lighting rig (it was really colorful for this show I realised) Alex's singing was audible a couple of times and it actually sounded pretty good, the unique Red Deer Shirt for sale was great, and finally, Geddy seemed to be having the time of his life at this show. I know he probably smiles the most of the three, but he just seemed so happy to do this show. Oh one last thing, Alex conducted the orchestra during YYZ and it was glorious. Apologies to everyone who could not make this amazing concert, and thanks to Rush for donating their time and efforts to everyone in Calgary. What did everyone else think of the show?
  16. Hey, so I was looking through the new articles posted about Rush on the Power Windows website, when I found an article interviewing Geddy, and he is asked his top favorite albums. Of course he is hesitant because like all of them have said, it is like picking a favorite child, he did narrow it down to 2112, Moving Pictures, Power Windows, and Clockwork Angels (not in that order), because he felt they were the most satisfying. I think it does not shock anyone to see 2112, MP, and CA on there, but I am wondering what everyone thinks of Power Windows being up there. I am over-joyed, but slightly shocked, seeing as how not many interviews from the era have them particularly happy with the album compared to how much praise they are giving CA. I would be even more shocked if they did not feature more than halve the album over the last two tours. I was just wondering what everyone else thought, if it is or surprising or not. Here is the link to the article. http://www.list.co.uk/article/51389-interview-with-rush-singer-bassist-geddy-lee/
  17. Were only Jazz basses used on the new album? On the title track of the album, it sounds like Geddy brought back the Rickenbacker. Any info?

    I had hoped

Alas, Clockwork Angels has not grown on me like I hoped. Even though it is a ambitious project, it just does not bring home the bacon with me. I cannot pinpoint what it is but I am not left wanting to go back to it as an entire listen. There are some standout songs, but some of the dogs are almost horrid.

  23. The Sad thing about Clockwork Angels is that is came so late in there career. Meaning that we are not going to hear hese great songs live as often as we heard say "Limelight, Tom Sawyer, Freewill, 2112, Subdivsions, and The Spirit of Radio. It is such a great album that I wish It would have been released years ago so we could have had more appearances of these songs in Concert. At this rate we might hear them again maybe once or twice and thats it. And thats brings sadness to my heart, but at least we were able to hear them!
