  1. My recommendations for Rush should they consider touring in the future: 1. Cut back the number of performances to three a week. Jimmy Buffett (who is 68) has been doing this for years (and even has a live disc titled "Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays") and he seems to be holding up well. 2. Cut back the show length by about 1/3. Go from 26-7 songs to 20 or so songs, with an intermission. I'd have no problem with a shorter show if it means I can still see you guys play. 3. Recommendations specifically for Neil: a. Stop riding a motorcycle between every show. Drumming like you do for hours is hard enough on your aging body - give it a break! b. Take your family along for the tour. Get a nice tour bus; take your daughter around the country and show her all the places you find special - national parks and so forth. Your wife could photojournal the whole thing and you can write a book about it after the tour. That would make a great coffee table book. c. Eliminate the drum solo. We can adjust, and it will mean less punishment on your body. d. Quit smoking. You'll find you get a lot less winded. Well, that's my $0.02. What say you, TRF'ers?
  2. I posted this in the other thread that we have for setlists below, but I'm really interested to start a discussion on realistic AND fantastical ones sets as opposed to purely sentimental ones or those on someone's dreamline. As you'll see below, I love making rush puns. Here's my Setlist! It's both fantastical and realistic. At the beginning there were too many hands on my time, too many feelings,... Too many things on my mind. However, in the end, I detached and subdivided it over and over, but now I'm happy and would endlessly rock to it any day. Don't be afraid to give feedback on my setlist, as I can't stop thinking Big, and would enjoy others telling me what they think just between us. So here goes it. Set 1 R41 Overture - Working Man - Anthem - Bastille Day - Making Memories - What You're Doing *leading straight from the solo towards the end into the opening song* Far Cry Driven Earthshine Kid Gloves Red Tide Nobody's Hero Malignant Narcissism Drum Solo Secret Touch Closer to The Heart Second Nature Emotion Detector Headlong Flight -- Intermission -- Act 2 Spirit Of Radio Free will Jacob's Ladder Entre Nous Different Strings Natural Science Afterimage The Twilight Zone (ambitious, I know) YYZ Resist Broon's Bane The Trees Mystic Rhythms The Enemy Within Losing It (ambitious Part II) Everyday Glory Tom Sawyer -- Encore -- 2112 (Overture, Temples, Finale) La Villa Fly By Night** ** Alex talked about how he'd like to do a heavier version of FBN so assuming they do, that's where I'd put it. What do you think?
  3. Can't wait until the next tour comes in around next year, I really want to finally get in the front row for a show without paying the after sale prices, need some help getting first pick at tix.... Who else in RI, MA, CT, NH area willing to help? Closest I've been is 2nd row... At least once, love to be a lucky one to get in the front and center!!! I'll bring my BLAH license plate to hold up!!!
  4. I was wondering if anybody has sent in any vinyl Rush albums, CD booklets, or photos to the venue to be signed by the band? Im going to see the boys June 10th in Buffalo, and I contacted my venue and they said they would forward any fan mail to the band to be signed. Has anybody gotten anything back yet, signed? If so, please post a photo!
  5. Neither St. Louis or Austin are on Youtube!! What's going on?
  6. If y'all have any videos from any of the concerts on this tour, stick them all in this thread so they are easier to track!! Let's start with any from last night in Tulsa!
  7. based on setlist, films before each set, etc., I have been resigned to the fact that Rush will not tour in Europe.

    Bootlegs

I know this post probably doesn't belong in the main forum, however I wanted to gain as big a response as possible. Sorry! So, anyway, at the ripe age of 17, I have only recently discovered the wonders of Rush concert bootlegs. They are still a new concept to me, so I have a few questions I'd greatly appreciate any answers to. 1) Where can I find the best quality Rush concert bootlegs? 2) Is there one place where I can find all Rush bootlegs, or do I have to scour numerous sources? 3) Are there bootlegs in existence for every concert Rush have done? 4) Will any of you be bootlegging the R40 tour? 5) What would you say is the best Rush bootleg?? Thank you in advance!! :D
  9. Does anyone hope that on the r40 tour they do more material from counterparts? Would love to see leave that thing alone live.
  10. I found this below article at Rushisaband.com "Speaking of which, animator Norma V. Toraya (aka Crankbunny) has done some work for Rush on recent tours and looks to be doing some work for the R40 Live tour as well, and she may have given away a potential setlist clue via her Instagram account earlier this week. She put up a post this past Wednesday that included an #R40 hashtag, and showed a computer screen with some animation software running. There were a few movie (.mov) files listed where the filenames contain the words Geddy, Alex and Neil, and in the upper left of the photo was an audio file referencing the title of a Rush song. The Instagram account in question has since been made private, but if you are itching to know what the potential spoiler was, just ask around. It isn't a huge spoiler (assuming it even is a spoiler) in the grand scheme of things since it's not a deep track or anything they haven't played live before." Does anyone know what song it was in reference to?
  11. As always every year Rush is a Rumored to play at CA, Coachella festival which I go to sometimes but it's too damn hot!! But for Rush I'll deal with it.But it seems to be gaining steam since Roger Waters stellar performance last year and with Rush gaining popularity with hipsters (I never though I'd see the day) and reading Coachella main site it seems Rush is the band the want to see headline (and again I never thought I'd see the day).Coachella has always been more catered to the indie crowd which is fine but has gone mainstream since the 2004 Re uniting of the Pixes. But would be cool to see Rush play there and do a stripped down set of say 45-60mins and I front of a beautiful area where you see deserts,Mountains, etc just totally empty just fans from all over the world.I know my Aussie Rush long suffering fans will love this cause will def jump on a flight to CA to see them, than again I see fans from around the world when I see them in NYC specially at the than brand new arena in Brooklyn Barclays Center 10/22/12 like a nite before hurricane Sandy(Even hurricanes can't stop Rush! Lol) came in to NYC.But I notice hipsters in there and wasn't surprised since Brooklyn is hipster capital of the world ...sigh Only thing thing that seems to shoot this down was that I read there taking off in 2014(or not I get confused a lot) but they did SARStock but i can see that was more personal to the boys helping out Their hometown. But to see them at Coachella would be interesting If this was posted all ready sorry
  12. https://kermitlynch....rs-and-friends/ I just found this blog. Don't know if anybody has seen it yet, what a cool story. Of Rock Stars and Friends Posted on September 20, 2011, 9:35 pm, by Steve Waters, under RUSH On a slow morning, years ago in the Financial District wine shop I used to work at in San Francisco, I peered out the showcase window overlooking Sutter Street and noticed a distinctive looking gentleman hopping out of a taxi cab. “Oh, my god, that’s Geddy Lee,” the bass-playing/singer of the Canadian rock trio, RUSH! It looked like he knew where he was going, because he walked right into the wine shop and up to me at the counter. We introduced ourselves, and after asking a few “feeler” questions, I quickly discovered that Geddy was a veteran wine aficionado. He was looking to buy a distinctive gift for some winemaker friends he was about to visit up in Sonoma County. We perused the mahogany wine racks of the store and Geddy settled on an older vintage of Château d’Yquem, the legendary Sauternes producer. I had helped a couple other rock stars previously (one in a particularly altered state of mind), but Geddy was different—as compared to the stereotypically drugged-out version, he was gracious, down-to-earth, and in possession of an ironclad musical pedigree. We said our farewells, and I quickly ran to the phone to call my buddy to say, “Dude! You’ll never guess who I just sold a bottle of wine to!!” Little did I know that my path and Geddy’s would cross again soon. My friend, colleague, and long-standing wine biz comrade, Daniel Madero, was hired by Kermit in early 2000. Daniel and I used to work together when I was a wine buyer and he was my sales representative from a Bay Area wholesaler. A position in the retail store became available at Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, and Daniel recommended me for the job. After a few weeks, we were discussing allocations for a prestigious white Burgundy estate when Daniel said, “I’ve got a bunch of requests for this, but, this is pretty cool, Geddy Lee of RUSH wants some, too.” “Wait a minute! Geddy Lee is a client of Kermit Lynch?!” “He sure is,” Daniel replied. “I just spoke with him, and he said to let him know if I was interested in seeing the band when their upcoming tour hits town. Wanna go?” http://kermitlynch.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/geddy-and-alex.jpgRUSH! Geddy really pulls out the red carpet when he puts you on his guest list. For our first RUSH concert since joining Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Geddy got Daniel and me fifth row center seats, all-access badges, and backstage passes to meet the band after the show. I didn’t have big expectations of what a RUSH show was like, but I walked away afterwards thinking, “Holy Shostakovich, that was fantastic!!! That’s a helluva lot of sound for only three guys!” (Alex Lifeson is the guitarist and Neil Peart is the drummer) It’s pretty amazing to consider that RUSH has been playing together (since ’68) for almost as long as the Rolling Stones and are considered the last, great power trio (think Cream). RUSH is third all-time behind the Beatles and the Stones with the most gold and platinum selling albums—pretty impressive. They are supremely talented musicians that are still at the top of their game. Even better, backstage, after handing out some RUSH t-shirts and tour programs and accepting our accolades, Geddy was more interested in discussing wine, the prestigious selections in the Kermit Lynch portfolio, and how great it must be to sell them. For a little while, I wasn’t sure who the rock star was anymore. As the years went by and my interactions with Geddy increased, I had a brilliant idea to get to know him better. I had suggested a few times that we should get together for dinner, and Geddy was always polite with my requests, but I wondered if he got asked this all the time from gobs of people. Luckily for me, a tour came through the Bay Area that allowed a free night for the band, and Geddy had said that he had always been curious about dining at Chez Panisse in Berkeley. “Well, how about we meet at the wine shop for a tour and a bottle of Domaine Tempier rosé, and then we can head up to Chez for dinner in the café?,” I proposed. Geddy accepted, and a few weeks later, he and Alex Lifeson were stepping out of their limo and into Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant. We met Daniel at Chez Panisse for dinner and had a fantastic meal with magnums of 1998 J.L.Chave Hermitage Blanc and 1998 Domaine du Vieux-Telegraphe Chateauneuf-du-pape Rouge. Both wines were spectacular. The show was the following night, and for the first time, Daniel and I were given the distinct honor of coming up on stage during the second set to “baste http://kermitlynch.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/chicken-basters.jpgthe chickens.” Geddy has had a series of stage “props” behind him that allow an individual in costume the opportunity for a little onstage interaction. Theatre of the Absurd, if you will. In our case, as the band launched into “The Spirit of Radio,” it was chef outfits and a large rotisserie full of plastic chickens that needed to be basted. We even basted the rubber chicken that was a part of Neil Peart’s drum set! (Don’t think Neil was expecting that.) I must admit that I have become a RUSH fan since working with Geddy. I remember a couple RUSH tours when I was in high school, but it was listening to my older brothers’ constant appraisals of rock bands and musicians that they considered the most influential that stuck with me— “RUSH is pretty cool, but letmetellya, their drummer, Neil Peart, is the greatest rock drummer ever. Even better than Keith Moon!” (Speaking of Keith Moon, Kermit tells a great story from his early rock and roll days about a gig in Berkeley and a bartender who played at top volume The Who’s Live at Leeds, which had just been released, before, during their break, and after the show. In other words, Kermit’s band had some tough competition that night.) I would say Geddy Lee is equally worthy of consideration as one of the most influential rock bass players ever. He is a master of a wide range of bass-playing styles, and in combination with his signature Fender Jazz bass, creates a sound that is unmistakably Geddy Lee. Alex Lifeson is also an amazing guitarist. This past June RUSH came to town on another tour. It was my fifth show since working with Geddy, and RUSH stepped into a solid second place of bands I’ve seen the most often (a distant second only to The Grateful Dead). Daniel, Graeme Blackmore, General Manager of KLWM, wholesale rep Matt Gerloff, and I, piled into the car and headed to the show with a couple mixed cases of wine to put on Geddy’s tour bus. Even more extraordinary, all four of us have helped Geddy Lee buy wine over the years from Kermit Lynch—first there was Graeme, then Matt, Daniel, and then I “inherited” Geddy as one of my best clients. It was all in the Geddy family. Once again, we had great seats and the show was spectacular. After the concert, sitting in the artist guest area, we had a cold beer and waited to enter the inner sanctum of backstage to see Geddy and Alex. We walked back and hung out off to the side as Geddy chatted with another group of fans. We brought a bottle of a chilled white wine to share with the guys and pulled the cork in anticipation. As we filled our glasses, Geddy turned, caught my eye, and stepped forward and gave me a big ‘ol hug. Another year, another tour, and one more chance to hang with a rock star who, just as importantly, is a great client and a warm-hearted soul.
  13. Hey guys. I bet this is a dumb question, but there is no audio cd I can rip to my computer if I buy the DVD or Bluray, right? Basically, if i wanted to listen to it in the car, I would have to buy the cd, correct? I want the Bluray, but I feel like I would get more use out of the cd...

  15. Just sharing what I found on another thread- From RIAB excerpt..... Bp: Will they ever do a full Clockwork… Howard: I don’t know. Are they talking about touring again? Yes. They’re talking about possibly touring in two years. But there will be nothing again for two years, we know that. Bp: Would that be a new album or R42 as Geddy has mentioned, do you know? Howard: I don’t know. That is up to them. They are the masters of that. As they say, “I light ‘em, I don’t write ‘em.” [laughs]
  16. As a Rush fan from Red Deer, I need to get the word out that RUSH is playing a Benefit concert in Red Deer Alberta Canada tomorrow on July 24, 2013 at 8:00 pm. Red Deer is 1.5 hours from either Calgary or Edmonton International Airports. The venue seats less than 8 thousand and there is no bad seat in the place. For some crazy reason, there are many tickets left and the prices are $140 CDN and down. All proceeds donated by RUSH to the Families impacted by the recent flooding in southern Alberta Canada. Tickets can be purchased at Ticketmaster Canada. I travel to the USA to see RUSH and this is cheap. If you ever thought about seeing RUSH for the first or next time, this would be a cheap killer trip to see the holy trinity in a small venue. RUSH deserves to play to a full house. See you there! Note: any assistance in getting the word out would be great.
  17. There has been another Halifax show added for July 14th and tickets go on sale to the general public on Saturday March 16th. Pre-sale tickets are supposed to go on sale Tuesday-Wednesday at noon. I am wondering if these pre-sale are just for VIP or if there are going to be normal tickets too. I do not want to purchase a $300 VIP ticket for pre-sale. I hope someone can give me further answers.
