So here I am in my hotel room playing Foreigner's Can't Slow Down, and a thought occurred to me: This is the best studio album the band ever released, and yet no fan of this band ever seems to talk about it! Shame on everyone! So, this is a thread, not necessarily about your favourite albums, but about those special albums in your collection that either arrived during a dip in the bands popularity and saw frail album sales, or maybe even absolute stone cold masterpieces that never EVER saw just recognition. Here are three more: Khoma- The Second Wave Strangeways- Native Sons Fleetwood Mac- Time

7. Azkaban- I don't know why it has its amazing moments but it doesn't really work for me with rereads. 6. Chamber- I love this book! So many important elements of later books take root here, horcruxes, Ron/Hermione (see how he defends her when she is petrified, whilst Harry sits back), Hagrid's past, Tom Riddle...excellent. Should be higher. Masterpiece. 5. Stone- Masterpiece, gorgeous book, as great as The Hobbit with even more depth and delightful characters. With one book the world fell in love! 4. Goblet- Pretty flawless, one of my favourites to read over and over. 3. Hallows- Again, deserves to be higher. The best book plotwise, this really isn't light reading. Needs firm focus and a lot of emotional investment. 2. Prince- one of the most comedic, and Dark, books in the series. The teen drama is at its peek, and it is delightful! 1. Phoenix- Umbridge.

One of the bands best songs, rarely gets a mention.

As many of you have surely noticed, I am an absolute addict for AOR. The bigger the hair the happier I am. The cheesiest ballad is a sure fire hit in my collection. But considering many older fans here would have been around when AOR was at its peak, both artistically and commercially, I thought it was about time we had a thread dedicated to progs sexier, yet vacuous, little brother. My current favourite AOR bands (or pomp-rock, cheese rock, etc): Toto Journey Styx Kansas Strangeways Fleetwood Mac (post 1975) Trillion Foreigner Let us all get the nerd on. I would love it if music like this could top the charts the world over all over again, I really love this genre.

Lacuna Coil have been my favourite band for nearly ten years. Do I make the claim that they are the greatest band ever? No. But i adore them. Something about their music swamps me with emotion, and although there are many female fronted metal bands around, Lacuna Coil are one of the first, having formed in 1994. I love all their albums, have seen them live, met them in person, and have cried endlessly to them in my darkest hours. I honestly don't like either that much...both have terrible production, both have boring as hell songs. I realised, though, that one album has four songs I enjoy more than any of the good ones off the other. Roll The Bones for me. But to be honest, both are pretty much bottom five for me!

Easy. Test For Echo. I like this album a lot, a real guilty pleasure.

Right, I see how popular CA is, and it got me wondering: how popular is it when stacked against each album? Let's have fun with this, those pro-CA and the naysayers alike! Based on these two, my vote goes to CA.

I surprised myself here...I almost went with CA! But the 2112 title track is just too good...

I strongly suspect after MP is completed, we will see CA win more rounds, which in all honesty I understand, as many Rush fans favour the bands more straightforward rock releases to the synth dominant eighties releases. Personal taste aside, I respect that choice completely. After all, bands like Yes, Kansas, Styx and others lost me with their softer, more commercially slanted, eighties records. Rush buck that trend with me, but I definitely agree those with more, how shall I put it, "metallic" taste in rock will not come out in droves to support an album like Power Windows when a heavier alternative is on show. But with Permanent Waves, I honestly cannot see how anybody could favour CA over this beautiful album. PeW combines hooks aplenty with experimental time signatures, complex instrumentation and fabulous production in a way that still excites over 35 years after its initial release, so much so that the well worn fan favourite and rock classic Spirit Of Radio still entices rapturous aplause with every performance. But personally, this masterful song is outshone by various gems on this album: Different Strings, Jacob's Ladder, Natural Science, the gloriously addictive chorus of Freewill...this is one stone cold classic. Even I admit to being guilty of overlooking this masterpiece. Why do I not regularly shout out PeW as one of my ultimate favourites? Honestly, I have no answer. Upon replaying it I am left doubting even myself when it comes to claiming AFTK as my favourite! So, with this poll, let's seriously consider which is best: this 35 year old timeless masterpiece, or a three year old fan favourite? Could CA be considered superior based on over familiarity of the vintage classic, or does CA push the sound of the band beyond even the peak of their glory years? My vote goes to PeW. But maybe, just maybe, this major classic, one which has stood the test of time better than virtually any other Rush album before or since, has finally be outshone by another prog-flavoured hard rock milestone. Let the voting commence!

Maybe I need my ears cleaned out, but there is a small chance Hemispheres might be the best album this band ever released. Sure, I favour AFTK over this...but Hemispheres is a challenging, articulate masterpiece with four of the finest songs ever released.

I reckon from here on out the competition may get tougher... But in all honesty, not for me. Playing the album now, and no it isn't my favourite, not even close, but it is still excellent. Losing It, The Weapon, Countdown...CA doesn't have a song to match any of these for me! Signals..hand down.

Not even a contest if you ask me. HYF, my equal first favourite alongside AFTK, vs. the barely outside my bottom five CA. CA may win...but not for me. HYF for the win!

Grace Under Pressure is so close to perfect it pains me to say it isn't. But regardless what I think of Red Lenses (and it is to be fair a very good song), the rest of the album is equal to MP for me. CA doesn't compare. I don't care for the argument ,"but it rocks, they are a rock band". Rush don't write rock, they write music, and besides, Grace Under Pressure rocks harder than Signals and Power Windows anyway. Grace Under Pressure wins without a shadow of doubt. I like even Red Lenses more than anything on CA (it just isn't a 10/10...which truth be told is how I rate EVERYTHING else on p/g. But an 8/10 isn't to be sniffed at).
