  2. Hi, Kevin J. Anderson is auctioning off two rare Author VIP editions of the novel Clockwork Angels. These were never for sale to the public and are only available from Kevin and Neil. These have slipcovers, are still sealed in shrink wrap, are signed by both Kevin and Neil Peart, and are coming from Kevin directly. He wants to raise money for one of his fans that has Brittle Bone Disease and recently had medical issues, and then his wheelchair equipped van died. Kevin wants to raise money to help get Sean a down payment for a van, since right now, he can't drive to doctor's appointments, school, etc. They are copies #107 and #111 out of 150 created. This is a true collector's MUST have, due to the rarity of the pieces. 100% of the funds raised got to Sean for his down payment for his van. Please help us make one little victory for this guy, and get a super rare piece of Rush history too! Kevin's friend James A. Owen is also illustrating a picture of Neil Peart as a six armed dragon playing the drums. Kevin and James will sign it, and there will be only 12 B/W prints and one hand colored edition made. If you win the book, you get a free print. If you want just the print, it's $100. Email 1littlelight2112@gmail.com Auctions end at 11:59 tonight! Bid on either copies of the book at http://www.onelittle...t.net/auctions/ or people can just donate at PayPal by using this email 1littlelight2112@gmail.com
  3. OK, it's my first (and probably only) tattoo. It's not really to represent my love for the band...they brought to light all the alchemy symbols and "amalgamation" was a fitting tribute to my husband and kids and the happy home we have. As a photographer, I've always wanted an infinity symbol, so it works in that respect as well as with the family link. It took all of 7 minutes to have done and it wasn't bad, discomfort-wise. It's on my left inner wrist. I just love it! It is VERY black...this b&w conversion kind of dulled how vibrant a black it is. It rocks!http://apageatatime.net/tat.jpg
  4. Did you guys see this article from NPR that Rush just posted on Facebook? It's great! http://www.npr.org/blogs/therecord/2012/12/18/167554155/loving-rush-with-all-my-heart-and-brain
  5. Twenty albums in, you have to ask: what’s left for Rush to prove? A band that have already been through and gotten over their ‘questionable’ period, characterised by excessive synthesizers and the sudden mastery of levitation, in record time and returned to that driving proggy rock that defined classics like 2112 and Moving Pictures. Since the hiatus and return of legendary drummer Neil Peart after a huge personal tragedy, the band has cautiously returned to recording music, in the form of 2002′s Vapor Trails and Snakes And Arrows five years later. Both albums were distinctly Rush and both contained some great tracks, but they weren’t quite the return to form that fans had been waiting for. The build up to Clockwork Angels was taken at a leisurely stroll as well. Five years have passed since their previous release, with the only real murmur of new material coming in the form of the Caravan EP which featured slightly differing versions of the opening two tracks here. With time came impatience and with impatience came expectation — but the most glorious or cynical thing (depending on your outlook) about being a band as a big as Rush is that even if Clockwork Angels was sub-par, enough fans would champion it as the second coming just because of the name on the front. Thankfully, Clockwork… is nothing of the sort. In fact, it marks the return of the kings of prog-rock, giving them another album to really act as a jewel in their crown. Based around the story of a young man and his changing attitude towards life and the infamous Watchmaker who keeps track on all that happens in this steampunk world, Clockwork‘s concept isn’t an essential part of enjoying it, each and every track can also be enjoyed as a standalone piece outside of the context. For instance, ‘BU2B‘, on the surface, tells only of the upbringing of the main protagonist but can also be taken as an interesting insight into the subjects of fate and karmic retribution, only cementing Neil Peart’s status as a legendary lyricist. However, it’s the music that makes the biggest impression. Whether it be the obnoxious grooving stride of ‘Seven Cities Of Gold‘, the pulsing rock of ‘Caravan‘ or the relatively straight-forward anthem in ‘The Wreckers‘ — the band’s bass driven prog never becomes anything less than stunning. Every nuance and rhythmic flourish is measured and thought out, with each member bouncing off each other perfectly and showing the kind of unspoken teamwork that can only come about from nearly 30 years of playing together. ‘Headlong Flight‘ is a perfect example that brings to mind some of the bands early 80′s, lengthier material, while maintaining an uptempo feel and still providing plenty of moments for instrumental wizardry. Other highlights include ‘Carnies‘, a track that could’ve gone horribly wrong considering it’s unfortunate and cheesy ‘carnival’ theme. Instead, barring the unnecessary introduction, Rush manage to create one of the biggest riff driven tracks on the album, that switches seamlessly between surging, bluesy riffs and tasteful, delicate leads courtesy of the oft-neglected Alex Lifeson. Also, the version of ‘BU2B‘ contained here isn’t far removed from it’s original, only containing an additional acoustic intro, but it is by far the stand out track. The main riff sounds monstrous and when completed by the relatively frantic guitar playing and Geddy Lee’s distinctive vocals, it’s compelling in a way that urges you to reach for the repeat button the moment that last vocal harmonies fade away. Clockwork Angels is nothing short of a masterpiece — a real tour de force of what progressive rock is and how it should be done. Anyone who would call themselves a fan of Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Primus or any number of progressive bands would do themselves well to get immerse in the latest release of a band that arguably inspired them all. So what do Rush have left to prove? Well, nothing to anyone but themselves. To prove that, even with an average age of 59, they can still outdo many of those bands that call themselves fans and they can still exceed expectations when needed. Rush’s Clockwork Angels gets… 5/5 http://www.heavyblogisheavy.com/2012/07/03/rush-clockwork-angels/#more-29821 :smoke:  :guitar: :haz: :rush:

  10. Rush, U2, ZZ Top Does Neil becoming a member before the USA release of Rush's first album make it ALL Original Members? Frank Beard didn't play on ZZ Tops first 2 singles, but did on their first Album. Does this make U2 the only one? :rush:
  11. Hi Rush Fans. I hope I am not posting in the wrong area. It's my first time here. I live and work in Wasaga Beach, Ontario, a little town north of Toronto. There is a couple here who got an idea to buy a guitar and get it autographed by one of their favourite Canadian bands and then donate the proceeds to a charity which was near and dear to them. They bought just one second-hand guitar which they wanted to have signed by one band but it just so happened that Goddo, another band of note in this region was playing locally. They signed the guitar. A second guitar was bought and it was signed by April Wine. This sparked a bigger idea. Why not go for the stars? The biggest band they could think of was Rush so they set out to see if Rush would sign a guitar. It wasn't easy because it takes a lot to meet anyone of their calibre in person, but they managed through Rush's management to get a guitar autographed. Some of the other autographs are from Anne Murray, Gordon Lightfoot, April Wine, Goddo, Loverboy and Blue Rodeo. There is also a country stars guitar. In total there have been 9 guitars autographed by Canada's hall of fame performers. One of them was sold immediately through the Canadian Diabetes Association. It had autographs by members of Loverboy, Journey and Pat Benatar and was sold for $4,000. The remaining 8 guitars will be auctioned off on Ebay. I am working with the founders of the charity to get all eight guitars listed on Ebay. There is a banquet here on the 24th of November in support of the effort. The reason I am here is that I wanted to let you all, as fans of Rush, know that one of the guitars is signed by all three members. It will be for auction on Ebay later this week as soon as we can iron out some Ebay and Paypal requirements. There is a reserve bid on the guitar set by the band themselves. It has been an amazing learning experience to find out what it takes to get an official autographed anything from bands like these. Even more amazing is the fact that the charity founders had no experience in the music business yet they managed to get so many high profile names involved. Anyhow, so I thought I would stop in and tell you about this. You can visit the official website to see the guitar: http://musichealsthesoul.ca/ The facebook group is here: http://www.facebook.com/MusicHealsTheSoul.ca You can read the local news stories on the auction. It has become quite the talk of our little town. It's very exciting for the residents here. We haven't had this much excitement since the Stanley Cup came here in 2000. http://www.simcoe.com/what%27s%20on/article/1515495--guitar-heroes-collect-signatures-for-charity http://www.simcoe.com/news/article/1531563--rush-signs-guitar-for-diabetes-auction http://www.ctvbarrie.ca/2012/11/friday-november-09-2012-ctv-news-at-6-webcast/ If anyone here is interested in bidding on the guitar or knows someone who is, I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have. All proceeds from the auctions will go to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

  13. I was wondering... What's Geddy's favorite candy? I can't see the guy liking twizzlers or pixie sticks... But I could see him pouring some nerds into his mouth straight from the box. What's fine dining to him? I can picture eating some lobster with him or something. This is really interesting stuff to think about... I'm sure all Rush members eat something every day... But what do they typically eat? I know I am a man of simple taste and have all my meals routine... But especially when on the road Rush has to be spontaneous with what they eat, right? I remember not too long ago someone saying that between sets Rush should bring out a table and have dinner. I could see that. Light some candles, get a steak meal served to them, say an atheist grace... Mics would be propped up so we could all hear their little jokes throughout the dinner, hear how each of their days went... What's new in their lives... Comment on what they're enjoying about their meals, what they're not... The possibilities are endless, they have the money and fan base. How interesting would it be to see Geddy and Alex play each other in table tennis while Neil did his drum solo? That would make for 12 minutes which would be actually amusing! We all know Alex and Ged played tennis, and that Ged is the bigger tennis fan... So what we'd be seeing is Geddy sweeping the floor with Alex as he made humor out of how bad he was doing, the stooge.
  14. After a 3 months wait RUSH will finally be rolling into Tampa, Florida with its aresnal of Clockwork Angels Songs! Cant Wait! Just a few more hours! See ya all there if you are going. I'll be the one with the smile on my face that will need to be removed with plastic surgery. Oh did I mentioned the weather is going to be perfect for an out door concert! default/new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif
  15. Its going to be difficult getting to that Charlotte, NC Show with this so called "Perfect Storm Sandy" bearing down on them. The crew will have to tear down the show in Cleveland and drive through all this crappy weather down US 77 all the way to Charlotte. Good thing its on the western side of the states so hopefully they'll won't get the worst part of the storm which will be to their north east. Anyway they surely will be tested coming the next 24 hours. Hope all is for the best and give them your prayers!
