(I will delete this post if not allowed) ATTENTION ALL :rush: FANS My new book, titled 2115, is now available on amazon kindle. It's fan fiction featuring over 70 Easter eggs that any hardcore Rush fan should be able to spot. Even those who might not know Rush so well, or even at all, will definitely enjoy this book. The story features themes from 2112, Hemispheres, Cygnus X-1 and Clockwork Angels. The story is NOT about Rush though, I have taken these concepts and re-worked them then melded them together to create a separate story on its own. All the previously mentioned Easter eggs are simply words and characters within the story. The main character, Dirk Lerxst, makes a discovery while on a weekend hike that confirms the stories of the revolt leaving the city long ago. He decides to go in search of the new city they started. After being welcomed to the community he learns he has special knowledge and skills and is recruited for a special mission, a mission to help his newfound home. There are other adventures, fun, humor, excitement and he even falls for the boardinghouse keepers assistant. An epic story ANY Rush fan is sure to enjoy! Be sure to spread the word and THANK YOU for your support!

This is it. Some decent competition from Moving Pictures, but it was clearly a race between these two behemoths in the last poll. You can choose only one, which one shall it be?

Hello fellow fans I have always loved Alex as a player and songwriter. But more than that he influenced me so much as a guitar player when I was young because of his brilliant full sound and how he could make up for lack of keyboards in a 3 piece band and make them sound just as full as Floyd, Genesis and Yes etc. Geddy and Neil are perhaps the virtuoso musicians in the band but Alex did 2 jobs of creating the texture an fullness that those other Prog bands did with guitar and synths. I would like to get peoples opinions on Alex' best sound and their reason if that is OK. I will kick off with my opinion, it is just an opinion. My personal favourite is "The Trees". I think he just laid down the bar there. The equipment I believe was his ES355 guitar (I think he may have used it in stereo on this track, please correct me if I am wrong. The Gibson ES355 was a stereo guitar but Alex said he had it rewired to mono for live work). He also had the Hiwatt 100w heads through cabs with 12 inch JBL speakers and a Roland Space Echo/Chorus, MXR stereo flanger and MXR tone boost. Please feel free to correct me. The combination of the effects with the semi acoustic 355 and the Hiwatt just gave an amazing sound. Huge and overdriven in a powerful way but not distorted or "fizzy". The use of the semi acoustic and the Hiwatt gave so much power yet a softer cleaner tone than say a Marshall JMP100 (one of which I own) and a Les Paul. I think Alex used a Les Paul and Marshalls on "All the World's a Stage" probably to get the volume he needed in a live situation, but that sound on the live album did not have the clarity or purity of his studio work. Anyone agree or disagree? would love to hear opinions. Best Wishes Steve Smith

self indulgent RUSH-esque tune I wrote/produced

Playing homage to a few early albums in a 5 minute piece. -
After seeing R40 thought I'd try writing/recording a tune borrowing heavily from 4 early records that were a huge influence.

Very quiet on the Rush front. Has anyone ever used Hemispheres as an alarm clock? When hosting parties and wanting to get rid of people in the morning, used to crank the volume up, put Hemispheres on and watch and wait.

Tell us what is your favorite Rush song to see them play live. It has to be one that they have played live before. If you want, tell us which one you'd like to see them play live that they never have played live.

This is my son! 13 Years old and loves Rush! He considers himself the biggest 13 year old Rush fan in the U.S! He is also a very talented drummer, especially for his age. He obiously loves making Rush drum covers. So then, he puts them on YouTube! This is his brand new cover here of Rush's "Roll The Bones" All we want is respect from you as fellow Rush fans. He isn't out to prove he can play Rush, but to honor them in an odd way. He would greatly appreciate if you checked out some of his videos. Thank you everyone!

More importantly, a Hemispheres/YYZ related question. A silly technical question, but it's bugging me a little. First, Hemispheres. So, at the minute-59 mark of the song, we hear a distinct twinkling sound with a galloping kind of rhythm, like a triangle or something. And Neil Peart did have triangles on his set around that time... http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7134/7526506168_efc527af22_z.jpg But there are other percussion items on his set that could make a similar sound. He had crotales mounted atop his tubular bells... http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2097/2126130903_e0cd40a8fd_z.jpg?zz=1 ...there was a set of orchestra bells in the ballpark of his timbales and concert toms... http://stupuola.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/neil-peart.jpg ...and possibly the bell of his ride cymbal (although I am skeptical of this). I am leaning more towards the crotales, but they seem inconvenient due to their placement, since at the 2:06 mark he moves over to the hi hats with the same rhythm, and that would be a considerable distance to travel in such short time! The orchestra bells would seem more likely, but then again... Another question: What note/pitch/tone/whatever is it exactly? I would like to make the addition of the mystery percussion to my current kit, but I want to know exactly what it is I need to buy so I don't end up with a kit bigger than Neil's! I know crotales each have a different tune/note, so I want that one, not thirteen! Is there any way we can figure it out if we haven't already? The same goes for the sound at the very beginning of YYZ. I just can't think of what it is. I am leaning more towards triangle on this one, but the question still stands...
