  1. I love One Little Victory, nice to see it get the recognition it needs. I wish it didn't suffer from the poor recording (like all of VT... ). It's also the first live Rush song I ever heard.
  2. QUOTE (Nate2112 @ Jan 30 2011, 05:48 PM) QUOTE (galt @ Jan 29 2011, 10:59 PM) Emotion detector would have topped my list. I started a thread on it a few days ago. The review on this site promoted my thoughts on the song.... http://rushmusicreviews.com/2011/01/rush-power-windows/ welcome to the forum! Please change your sig, that's ridiculous.
  3. Aw, only #92? Now I have to start my own list.... damnit....
  4. Hmmm... I'm not sure if these would be the perfect fit for a CD, but looking through Rush's catalogue, these would definitely be my choices for Neil's best lyrical accomplishments (in alphabetical order I suppose): Afterimage (Loss) Armor and Sword (The volatile nature of personal convictions) Between the Wheels (The volatile nature of entire societies) Circumstances (Well, different circumstances lol) Entre Nous (Interpersonal understanding) Faithless (The importance of finding what's right for yourself) Freewill (Obviously) Resist (Personal struggle) Scars (Significant events and their impact) Territories (The insignificance of possession) The Pass (Not giving up) Witch Hunt (Mob mentality and the consequences of ignorance) Honorable mentions: The Spirit of Radio, The Trees, Time Stand Still, Vital Signs. It seems I actually picked quite a few different from you But I think your list works really well as a "theme", it seems to have quite a few songs from around the same era, not just of music but of Neil's thoughts. I just picked the strongest messages regardless of any coherent time period

QUOTE (Scars @ Jan 24 2011, 12:27 AM) QUOTE (slappa_da_bass @ Jan 23 2011, 10:15 PM) QUOTE (Deckiller @ Jan 23 2011, 10:03 PM) QUOTE (slappa_da_bass @ Jan 21 2011, 01:29 PM) You're doing better than Deckiller lol Correction: "I agree with your list more than Deckiller's" :-P I don't sacrifice ranking to avoid seeming unbiased. For instance, I definitely would rather listen to most of Power Windows before most of Vapor Trails, and my list reflects that. Correct correction: I find GBR's details behind his ranking more coherent than yours most of the time... Are you done attacking Deckiller or what? Listen white knight, he tried to tell me what my own opinion was and I corrected him. Go overreact to something else.

  7. The intro to Faithless is dark? It sounds really upbeat and "springy" to me. Do you mean Spindrift or another song? Edit: Also, a third done with the list and you're still only at 5.5/10? Do you not particularly care for Rush music?
  8. QUOTE (In A Tidewater Surge @ Jan 22 2011, 03:32 AM) QUOTE (Kenneth @ Jan 22 2011, 01:19 AM) 93 - Totem This song has a nice variety of sounds. I like Geddy's "woahs" throughout the choruses. 6/10 92 - The Stars Look Down This used to be my favorite song from VT. I personally think they're on fire on this song. Only problem with this song really is that it's a bit repetitive. 6/10 91 - Manhattan Project 0:14 - 0:30 = Barney Music! Cheeseball song with a cheeseball concept, good thing it has that awesome synthy PoW instrument sound to save it big time. The ending guitar solo makes for one of the most memorable Rush moments. 6.5/10 Enrico was all about his cheese I thought Enrico was all about playing with bonfires?
  9. QUOTE (Good, bad, andrush @ Jan 21 2011, 01:32 PM) QUOTE (slappa_da_bass @ Jan 21 2011, 01:29 PM) You're doing better than Deckiller lol Ha, well I respect his list just as much, and his idea. Glad you're enjoying mine. Keep in mind though, it's just mine, and I know I'm going to spark some controversy here and there, but I'm trying to focus on just how much feeling the song has, how much it means, the atmosphere, and the way the lyrics fit the music, as well as the complexity and difficulty of the music, and ultimately how much the song can actually mean to one person rather than so many, but at the same time how the song can mean something to many people. I think Deckiller's list is based around his favorites rather than my way of ranking. Of course, biases are falling into my list, but I don't think they're as present as they are in Deckiller's. For me, I sometimes find something to disagree with in your break down of a song, but when I look at the actual placement you've given for that song, I'm often right on the same page. There hasn't been anything crazy yet, nothing with more than +/- 5 error in my mind. As long as you don't put Middletown Dreams within the next 50 spots, I'll stay on board
  10. QUOTE (Good, bad, andrush @ Jan 13 2011, 01:09 PM) 106.GOOD NEWS FIRST 5/10 I like this song a lot, but that's just me. It's very similar to The Twilight Zone, I guess...especially in the sense that both songs have gone to the Twilight Zone of the Rush repertoire. It's a nice little song with a decent intro, spooky verses, and a haunting bridge. That haunting bridge is the highlight of the song. But because everything just kind of falls flat...a lot of the song is just forgettable. Some people are turned off of this song because it's "decent," some because of the lyrics, some because it's just part of the Snakes And Arrows album. But really, this is not a bad song...it's above your average song...just not above your average Rush song. That bridge is definitely worth listening to...it's the only thing that saves this song from being placed in the bottom 30. The fact that the spooky verses kind of build up to this bridge is very neat, and the strings in the background are great too. It's just unfortunate that this bridge kind of just flows by because of the rest of the lackluster song. Good News First is the third best track on Snakes and Arrows....
  11. Obviously everyone's going to have one or two picks they don't agree with, but I really think you're doing a bangup job so far. Keep going!
  12. QUOTE (LeaveMyThingAlone @ Jan 7 2011, 05:20 PM) QUOTE (slappa_da_bass @ Jan 7 2011, 03:44 PM) QUOTE (LeaveMyThingAlone @ Jan 7 2011, 03:35 PM) EVH is all chops and fast and technically proficient. Alex Lifeson is all about feel and emotion in his playing. Such a huge difference. Uh, no. You can't just say that about anyone you don't like and expect it to go over. EVH has plenty of emotion in his playing. If you want to see emotionless, maybe something like Yngwie Malmsteen would work. But not EVH. Maybe he's just playing too fast for you to hear I guess it's just a different opinion. I don't feel anything when EVH plays Well, I'm a musician and can feel what he puts into the music, the difficulty and emotion. Maybe that's the difference?

  14. QUOTE (Lamelight @ Dec 29 2010, 08:09 AM) QUOTE (Good @ bad, andrush,Dec 29 2010, 08:05 AM) 125.IN THE END 124.HERE AGAIN My favourites from those albums That's why they're up so high! They have to be somewhere....
  15. lol I actually agree with The Big Wheel, you're back on track mate!
  16. There are literally tens of songs worse than Virtuality. The lyrics were appropriate at the time and still have a very poetic tone. They don't sound strange to someone born before the internet was popular.
  17. Yay, At The Speed Of Love finally reared its ugly head. I don't think it should've been that high though, damn those harmonious harmonics of harmonica harmony.
  18. QUOTE (wrekinboy @ Dec 17 2010, 08:54 AM) There are several reasons why you should go no further with this; -taking the idea and copying it so closely is just not right; an 'epic fail' in modern parlance -once somebody has done it then it should be left, otherwise we'll have countless attempts at all 155 -you are a little on the young side to be making such judgemental statements on the music and especially the lyrics; having an opinion at any age is fine, but you should watch how you deliver it -a lot is already plain wrong (e.g. the water/wine lyric above is neither tacky or funny - it makes perfect sense in the context of a song about advancing age) -if you are not even going to spell correctly the names of rock legends..... 1) The other guy quit in the middle of it. He was updating every day but has now failed to update in weeks. 2) No one's doing it now 3) Oh please. The only people to ever say things like that are boring old people with little accomplished in their lives who want credit just for having existed this long. Not saying that's it in your case, of course 4) Maybe true 5) Maybe true With all that being said, I have a feeling anyone trying to do something of this calibre is going to encounter lots of "problems" .....
  19. How is Second Nature worse than At The Speed of Love??? Okay, I'm giving up now.
  20. lol, this is cute. I got Hemispheres. It kinda "nails" me since it's all compliments, but so does every other description/outcome, just like horoscopes Fun though
  21. QUOTE (Tony R @ Dec 15 2010, 03:05 PM) Please stop. But he already promised.....
