    BU2B2 is not a song

QUOTE (OGr8imL84AD8inF8sBlackSedan @ Jul 7 2012, 05:24 PM) QUOTE (BigBob @ Jul 7 2012, 05:20 PM) I like it. It fits perfectly on the album. Kind of like "Stop" from The Wall Damn right...I love it.
  2. QUOTE (spock @ Jul 7 2012, 07:13 PM) Maybe it's just me, but I've listened to S&A many times. Sure it was Rush playing new Rush music, it will obviously sound like Rush... But, I just keep finding bits and pieces of old songs or odd references in CA that are just so...odd/obvious/up front. If I tried to list them all, I'm sure half of you would quickly point out ones that I miss, so I'll just throw it out there - what have you heard or wondered about? Like: The obvious Bastille Day riff in HF - but I also heard some Bytor licks at the end of the HF solo The lenses inside of me paint the world black; the pools of poison, the scarlet mist (Red Lenses? War Paint). The closeness of the WTW argeggio with Carve Away the Stone Coincidences? No way to not self reference? I only wonder because I just didn't hear so much old bits in VT or S&A...wonder if the music is a retrospective much like the story is a life story? Or, I could just be donning my Captain Obvious cape again Maybe they're just lacking in creativity
  3. QUOTE (MainMonkeyBusiness @ Jul 5 2012, 08:37 PM) Presto is an excellent album...oh wait it was a album, so it must be excellent. War Paint has an excellent message. Hand over Fist is catchy as hell too. Superconductor...hell... they're all good. to all this. To me, Presto =
  4. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Jul 5 2012, 06:48 PM) QUOTE (treeduck @ Jul 5 2012, 03:34 PM) It's only three weeks isn't it? It's close to a month, and let's be honest, most of us have had it a good month or so.
  5. I chose 9. It's really nabbed me more than Snakes and Arrows did back in 2007 but then I'm a bigger fan now than I was back then The only track I don't really dig is "Wish Them Well" but I like its message
  6. QUOTE (driventotheedge @ Jul 5 2012, 04:12 PM) Hey Kelly, congrats on meeting Jack. Seems like he was very cool. . . . Now for a far more important question: How did you like The Wall? I ask cuz I was absolutely freaking blown away when I saw it in Portland on May 22nd. How were your seats? I had 12th row floor which certainly didn't hurt. It compared very favorably with being in the front row for Rush last summer. . . . I'm really hoping Roger will go on for another year so as to get a chance to see it again. I saw it twice- inside at the XL Center in Hartford in 11th row and then outside at Fenway in about 19th row- ugh it was INCREDIBLE!!! Such a feast for the eyes and ears!
  7. QUOTE (briremo @ Jul 3 2012, 03:05 PM) Waiting for some images to start leaking out. The guys must be deep into stage prep and fine tuning the lighting, videos set list and of course...rearranging the orchestra chairs. That won't happen for a while. . .
  8. QUOTE (DBJetsman @ Jul 4 2012, 10:47 PM) BTW Kelly, which CA shows are going to? Manchester, Bristow, Bridgeport, Toronto, Boston, and Vegas are in the works!
  9. QUOTE (DBJetsman @ Jul 4 2012, 10:38 PM) You must go to church a lot, because luck is obviously on your side No church for me unless you count rocking out to Atheism, baby
  10. QUOTE (snowdogged @ Jul 4 2012, 07:01 PM) And you were very smart about it! All you wanted to do was pay homage to Rush! School of Rock, baby! Thanks! I try to be very respectful when I meet famous people and he was totally chill.
  11. QUOTE (Shreddy Lee @ Jul 4 2012, 03:30 PM) QUOTE (Kelly D @ Jul 4 2012, 02:54 PM) Yes, that's me! I was in the third/second rows, actually. . . what a stellar night that was! And thank you! I always notice the little dance you do at the beginning of La Villa I'm singing "Still No Guitar"

    Tai Shan

QUOTE (jnoble @ Jul 4 2012, 10:07 PM) QUOTE (Drummerrobin @ Jul 4 2012, 07:53 AM) QUOTE (Steel Rat @ Jul 4 2012, 01:20 AM)Neil's lyrics are beautiful, perhaps his BEST. It is a special challenge to write about such an alien culture, but he does it perfectly. It's such a pleasure to feel like I experienced his journey with him. "The clouds were suddenly parted. For a moment, I could see the patterns of the landscape reaching to the eastern sea. I looked upon a presence spanning forty centuries... I thought of time and distance, the hardships of history, I heard the hope and the horror..." It's so utterly flawless. I can only assume that what Alex and Geddy actually mean is this: that they believe they failed to capture musically what Neil captured lyrically. But I think they sell themselves short, the music - and the song as a whole - moves me to tears every single time. Maybe there's something about the first couple minutes or so that cause people to tune out from boredom before they see it for what it truly is. Maybe I'm just crazy, but Tai Shan sings to me. I'm totally with you there! And though I understand why maybe some might consider the music to be a little cheesy (though to me it's part of the song's appeal), it's really nothing like as bad as many of the songs on Presto/ RTB albums. Just think of Superconductor, Face Up or You Bet Your Life. All that light weight pop-rock from those albums completely out-cheeses Tai Shan and everything else from the synth era albums imo. And not in a good way! Superconductor is one of my fav Rush songs from that era. I'll listen to that (or Face Up or YBYL) anyday over the new-age "this sounds like something heard in the dentist office" stylings of Tai Shan. Also, Second Nature fits the same bill. Those are two of the wimpiest songs Rush ever recorded Ouch dude, I love both those songs!
  13. QUOTE (greyfriar @ Jul 4 2012, 02:32 PM) Kelly - you always amaze me with your stories. Cool to see Jack so relaxed in the middle of the crowd. Great shot. Thanks! He seemed kinda annoyed at all the attention he was getting but I at least had something of substance to show him
  14. QUOTE (liddybuck01 @ Jul 4 2012, 02:40 PM) Kelly = luckiest bitch ever. <3 "We draw our own designs"
  15. QUOTE (Shreddy Lee @ Jul 4 2012, 02:52 PM) Wow, that's pretty cool. Based on the pictures in your sig, it seems like you've been pretty damn lucky when it comes to encounters like that. And I have to ask - and sorry for probably being late on this one - but are you the girl I keep noticing the camera cuts to in the front row when I'm watching the Time Machine concert? Because if you are, once again, lucky! Yes, that's me! I was in the third/second rows, actually. . . what a stellar night that was! And thank you!
  16. QUOTE (RushFanForever @ Jun 30 2012, 10:58 AM) Posted in its entirety: Come on Children Film 1973 Started watching it last night!
  17. QUOTE (Cyclonus X-1 @ Jun 30 2012, 08:02 AM) Available Light is one I'd love to see them perform. PLEASE!!!
  18. QUOTE (WIDE-ANGLE WATCHER @ Jun 28 2012, 11:59 PM) I have always loved this song... Not sure why....I admit it's a little cheesy.... I just like the word play with the vanity and mirror thing. I think it's one of Neil's greatest lyrical achievements. There're so many interpretations.
  19. QUOTE (Queen of Megadon @ Jun 29 2012, 09:02 AM) Got love for all things PRESTO! YES mad for Presto!!!
  20. Jack Black was one section over from my Rush Rat friend and me on Sunday, July 1st when we saw Roger Waters perform the Wall at Fenway Park in Boston, MA! When he was spotted a huge crowd gathered to take photos. I decided to refrain from being that crass and instead show him my Rush girly sulfur alchemy symbol shirt that I brought with me, knowing he's a huge Rush fan. It was a no-brainer! He was with his Tenacious D bandmate, Kyle Gass, but no one seemed to care about poor KG :'( They both seemed pretty resigned to their respective fates. The crowd dispersed after a few minutes after a random woman tried telling the people it was just a Jack Black impersonator. After a minute I went over to him and said, "Jack!" and showed him my shirt. He didn't say much to me- he smiled in appreciation, pressed a finger to his lips, then extended a finger to me, like E.T. We touched fingers in mutual appreciation of the Holy Triumvirate, he said, "You're wonderful. Love ya, baby," blew me a kiss, and we both returned to our seats. Luckily my friend who took me to the concert got photos!!! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v283/dancingdays/random/JB_KDjpg.jpg

    Tai Shan

QUOTE (Steel Rat @ Jul 4 2012, 02:20 AM) I can never fathom why Alex and Geddy say they hate Tai Shan; or why anyone else hates it, for that matter. It's always been in - at worst - my top ten. I can get all of my friends to see it, too. Neil's lyrics are beautiful, perhaps his BEST. It is a special challenge to write about such an alien culture, but he does it perfectly. It's such a pleasure to feel like I experienced his journey with him. "The clouds were suddenly parted. For a moment, I could see the patterns of the landscape reaching to the eastern sea. Maybe there's something about the first couple minutes or so that cause people to tune out from boredom before they see it for what it truly is. Maybe I'm just crazy, but Tai Shan sings to me. I really think it's the music- so CHEESY!- that ruins it for me. Neil's lyrics are quite good.
  22. QUOTE (Rushchick10 @ Jul 4 2012, 02:24 AM) QUOTE (D3strukt @ Jul 4 2012, 01:08 AM) I seem to have picked up a Rush girl on my radar. She's pretty legit. Likes VT, T4E and Clockwork Angels. She also plays a mean bass, so along with my drumming......... She also sings........ someone f***ing smash my head with a hammer.... Treasure it. Us chicks that like Rush, play bass, sing and aren't ugly can be kinda rare. Preach, Jaime!

Not very kind for the one who wrote that song : Neil. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBZY_loemUw "Tai Shan" is up on the list of my least favorite Rush songs, quite like "Rivendell" or "Dog Years." But there is a time and place for everything and I listened to "Tai Shan" yesterday and didn't gag once! Did you gag twice? Surprisingly no! I kept my stomach contents firmly in my gut. Miracles DO happen! You don't have to puke to gag... It's a slippery slope. I can't remember what this was about now... Reading isn't your forte, I gather

This may be why we wont get Carnies either. Then why do they insist on playing "Free Will"? They do it anyway even though that song pushes his vocals to the limit. i think it's time to shelve freewill. That and Spirit of the Radio They'll play TSOR Yeah I don't ever see that leaving their setlist.
