  1. I made one because a promotion required it a while back and post on it once every few months if I come up with a clever pun or comment -- primarily so my account doesn't get deactivated. Ultimately I don't see the point of the site.
  2. Got a very nice heartfelt PM with birthday wishes. It brightened up my day. Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone. :)
  3. A fantastic actor doing a disservice to a beloved Trek villan. It would have been much much better to have him be somebody else in STID. You know what would have been interesting? Starfleet discovers the Botany Bay and crew in cryo-freeze, and they wake up someone other than Khan. Cumberbatch could have played the super-human "John Harrison" for real, with Khan still in cryo-freeze. It would have avoided all the "Why did they get a stuffy white Englishman to play Khan?" arguments...... :D Hey, that's not a bad idea! Better start with the script for Trek 3 now before the ruin it! Roberto Orci is writing the script for Trek 3. It's already ruined. Don't believe me? Check out his IMDB page.
  4. Maybe it was because the rest of the movie was just so bad, or that Montebaln nailed the role so perfectly back in the day but Cumberbatch felt out of place. He's fantastic as Sherlock, but I don't think he's an actor that can really nail a part outside of that archetype. I felt he was weak as Khan. It felt like the role could have been swapped out with a random James Bond villain; he just didn't project that air of confidence or have that presence from a superhuman.
  5. Heard about this yesterday. I like the idea of Cumberbatch for Doctor Strange. He's got a good voice for it. Negotiations with Joaquin Phoenix fell apart, so it looks like Cumberbatch is the next man up! He would make a fine Doctor..... :ebert: And Phoenix would have been all wrong as Doc Strange. Oh, Phoenix would have been great! Deep in an epic battle for the fate of the World, he could turn into Commodus, Emperor of Rome..... AM I NOT MERCIFUL!!! http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_ricnMUse7ME/S_iMoclGPLI/AAAAAAAAAIg/CuiMC9ytSUE/s1600/drstrange1967poster.jpg No to me he'd be too intense for Strange, Strange isn't manic, he's authoritative but calm and serene. Bungerdinck will be fine. He couldn't pull off authoritative but calm as Khan. Calm and confident yes, but he was not threatening or authoritative in any way.
  6. To what are you referring? I'm not tired of the Marvel films at all. They've done a masterful job with the universe. If they can keep it up, it will be one of the best movie series of all time I wont slate superhero films, but i miss the high quality dramas of the nineties. Hollywood is creating either epic blockbusters, or sweary, inpenetrable dramas. Films like LA Confidential, The Talented Mr Ripley, Schindler's List and even Titanic were big Hollwood films that were also immensely watchable and, dare i say it, artistically rewarding. No dramas of recent years have leftany sort of impact close to any one of these did on me. Any suggestions? Let me know. But these big superhero movies are getting on my nerves, the superhero film is the modern western, you see one, you very likely have seen them all. Main exception for me was the wonderful Man of Steel, and i really love the first two Spiderman films with Tobey Maguire. Good thing nobody is forcing you to watch those movies.
  7. I'm glad they made the Infinity Gauntlet two parts. We'll get a nice fleshed out conflict. I'm not sure how I feel about Benedict Genericbatch as Dr. Strange. He was weak as Khan -- couldn't convey confidence and badassitude at all, but at this point I trust Marvel wholeheartedly. This is going to be awesome.
  8. This worries me. Will the film producers be able to do Thanos any justice? The character is, according to the comic storyline, one of the most powerful, godlike villains in the universe. I fear the film making Thanos into just another power-mad alien with an invading fleet. They can. Thanos is not that powerful on his own when put against 2-3 of the more powerful avengers. With the gauntlet nothing changes. Throw in a few stones and he's more powerful than the Avengers. Throw in all 6 and technically speaking, he's God. He can manipulate any facet of time and space on a whim. All they have to do is give him a select subset of the stones + the gauntlet and have the plot centered around stopping him before he gets them all. I'd say give him the Soul (steal powers and manipulate the nature of others), Mind (mind control -- seen as Lokis staff), Space (teleportation -- seen as the Tesseract) and maybe Power (Guardians of The Galaxy) or Reality (Thor 2) and he's still beatable without being unbeatably powerful or resulting to the "oh you could never defeat us without the gauntlet so take it off and fight like a man" cliche. It's doable. It may not be the end all Avengers movie, but it certainly is doable.
  9. Looks awesome. One thing I didn't really like though is that they're using the "this is the end, the end of the path I started" trope. Anyone who has been paying attention to the teasers knows that Avengers 3/Thanos is the end. However, that line could easily be explained away if the path is the creation of Jarvis and the Iron Man suits and Ultron is an amalgamation of the two.

  11. http://i.imgur.com/vFhh4JW.gif There's just something about this that seems wrong and oddly creepy. Maybe it's because I can't seem to figure out an answer to... "why?!"
  12. I'm taking part in the reddit postcard exchange. I couldn't find a postcard that fit the interests of the person I was matched up with, so I learned some basic photoshop (all I knew before was how to use the select and fill tools) and came up with this. I think you guys will get a kick out of it: Text: Greetings from the Great White North, Good Day. I tried really hard to find a a card that suited your interests eh, but that hozer at the post office wouldn't let me attach a strip of bacon to a postcard that was dunked in good ol' Canadian beer. So I had to improvise a bit. I hope ya like it. Take off eh. - USB Connector Image: http://i.imgur.com/DDkgJwb.jpg
  13. My SO went through this phase shortly after we started dating about a decade ago. I didn't see any of these movies but I did see parts of Hostel, one of the Saw movies and human Centipede. She loved movies with such excessive violence at the time and figured I might like them as well since I sometimes played rather violent games like Gears of War. I couldn't stand them, but for a good few years she watched every single gruesome horror movie she could get her hands on. I'm not sure if she's seen any on this list though.
  14. He will be the Butt of many jokes during his career, that's for sure! He'll also be the at the tail end of many shitty pun threads.
  15. The lyrics are just horrible. I get that they were going for playful, but between this song and Virtuality the lyrics are just so cringeworthy. It's like Neil got someone with a PhD in bad puns to show him his best work.
  16. In light of this, Dog Years should become an instrumental.
  17. I know that name from somewhere. :) Worf's son.
  18. The only exceptions being the ones that involve Alexander Roshenko. :P
  19. Back on topic: I honestly wouldn't really notice them. If I was put into a situation where I'd be forced to socialize with them they'd be ordinary people to me, so I'd probably greet them and move on. Anything that Neil, Alex and Geddy do on their personal time is none of my business, their relationships included.
  20. And probably their most controversial. At least in the top 5 I remember the controversy it stirred up. I can't remember if it was more that they were making fun of scientology or calling Tom Cruise homosexual. Either way, I didn't see anything wrong with the episode and still don't. That episode is a satirical masterpiece.
  21. I haven't seen many episodes, but out of all of them that I've seen, the one that was the funniest was the one where Tom Cruise won't come out of the closet.
  22. I just got an email that season 4 is now on netflix. I figured I'd give you guys a heads up in case any of you wanted to catch up on the show.
  23. In alphabetical order (naturally Rush is my favourite by preference but the others depend on the day).
