  1. This thread reads like something you'd expect from Justin Bieber fans. If I were a musician in my late 50's reading comments like this from grown adults I'd feel more than vindicated in my strict 'no fan' policy.
  2. @Cosy Toes You must have been tripping your a$$ off on wrong juice. The Dublin show was extraordinary, or so everyone in the crowd except you thought.
  3. Do you realise how unbelievably stupid some of you sound? Calling a guy a 'douchebag' and all of the names under the sun, even though you've never met the guy! No wonder he isolates himself from fawning, sycophantic pant-wetters. Even though Alex and Geddy do the meet and greets, I'd have no desire to do it. I love their music, Neil's lyrics, and the extraordinary performances - but that's where it ends. I have my own life and they have theirs. Why should they give a toss about meeting me and hearing my story about what Rush has meant to me over the years? Even I'm not too interested in that story.
  4. I love Mastodon Remission, Leviathan and Crack the Skye are my favourites (75% of their back catalogue!) Looking forward to the Sade / Dinosaur Jr. thread
  5. QUOTE (Cosy Toes @ Apr 18 2011, 10:16 PM) Sometime back when they still had Rutsey in the band. Back when Rush were at their best. Troll
  6. Their gig in Liverpool Empire back in 77 or 78. I read in the comments section of the Guardian article a very interesting description of this show. Apparently just as the lights went down, the PA advised the packed audience that the IRA had just issued a bomb threat and that anyone who wanted to leave should do so immediately. Not one person budged. Rush came on and proceeded to blow the roof off the place - much more effective than semtex nail bombs.
  7. From the list I went for Time and Motion, my favourite track from TFE and probably from the 90's era. Absolutely pummeling, relentless, dark and heavy - probably a bit like getting on a rollercoaster after necking a tab of acid. No Natural Science? "A quantum leap forward...."
  8. Are any of the above options poncey names for the original vinyl? That's what would get my vote.
  9. There are loads of Irish Rush fans, you'll see. It won't just be traveling Sweaty Socks, Septic Tanks and Slurry Pits
  10. I voted Yes. Genesis and Zep were my close 2 and 3 on this list. Do Rush fans actually like Dream Theater and Queensryche?
  11. As a long-suffering Irish Rush fan, although not for much longer (... laughs maniacally) one gets a few mixed comments when out and about. I saw a dude near Dublin with a TFE t-shirt about a year ago and I said "Rush!". His wife looked up and said , "Oh no, not another one!". No doubt he'll be dragging her to the Dublin show kicking and screaming. When I was a young fella I was working in NY for a summer and couldn't believe how much airplay they got in the States. One day I bought a starman t-shirt in the Village and later dropped into one of the expensive guitar shops on 33rd St. The clerk saw my t-shirt, pulled down a double-neck SG and proceeded to play Hemispheres. I don't reckon I'll ever get a kinder response to me wearing a Rush t-shirt.
  12. Harriet Wheeler from The Sundays Elizabeth Fraser from Cocteau Twins Kate Bush
  13. QUOTE (Jean Simmons @ Nov 30 2010, 06:22 AM) I went to Helsinki once. It was shut. They obviously heard you were coming!
  14. ^^^^ Chill the beans man. Listen, I'm an Irishman and I'm not too fond of being called "Paddy" or "Mick". To call out those posters for being xenophobic is fair enough, but to start mentioning the Rah and the Taliban is way below the belt! Shame on YOU! Surely this is a joyous time for all Irish fans?
  15. in Ireland!!! I cannot believe it! Will definitely be attending with a big sloppy grin on my face! As Madra Sneachta said, it is a superb venue with flawless sightlines and great sound. Jaysus, never in my wildest dreams did I ever think Rush would come to Ireland (laughs maniacally)
  16. PS As I live in Thailand, I can confirm that "Time and Expense" are never considerations in this chilled out land.
  17. Back in the day when all I could afford was 90 minute cassette tapes and didn't know the names of the various parts of 2112, I always thought the lyric was "We are the beasts, of the devil's first series" also "We're on the trail to Bangkok, all bored with time and expense". Purchasing the Rush albums one by one on vinyl soon put an end to misheard lyrics.
  18. ljr869 - Jaysus you sound like a barrel of laughs to attend a concert with! Warning strangers that if they smoke weed at an outdoor venue near you then you're gonna hospitalise them seems a bit knee-jerk, doesn't it? Oh of course, in my experience it's ALWAYS tokers who seem to be the most disruptive and damaging at concerts, not beer users. Back to the topic, I see the Rush/Weed correlation. Drawn out intricate epics with gatefold sleeves - perfect for skinning up and sparking up to. Although I disagree that weed makes music better, good music is good music period, an altered state can make you pick up on something you didn't notice when you weren't high - such as a 'depth' in the engineering of the album. If the members of the band are into it or not doesn't make a difference to me.
  19. Just listened to HYF last night, I reckon it's one of their best LPs. I was thinking the exact same thing, NOW I get it. I remember waiting for the record store to open to buy HYF (as an 11 year old) and loved this tune immediately. It resonates on a completely different level now that I'm in my 30s and the passing of time seems so fleeting at this age. It just goes to show you how brilliant and unpretentious Neil's lyrics can be, considering over the decades that the meaning of this song grew more personal to several of the posters on this topic.
  20. I think it's strange that they chose Stick it Out over a same-era song like Time & Motion, which I think would fit very nicely in this setlist. Don't understand the lack of love for Marathon, that's a tune I'd love to hear them crank.
