  1. One more point -- of course, dumping a beer on someone is unacceptable and calling them out as a boor is perfectly acceptable. It's also obvious. What else is unacceptable is telling some in front of you who is rocking out to sit down so you can soak up every tiny nuance. That's also interfering woth someone else's experience. Tit for tat, and all that.
  2. Sorry, I'm singing along. No, spilling drinks and invading space isn't cool, but if you don't want people to loudly sing, then go to see some chamber music. I think an awful lot of Rush fans treat the show as something more than a good time rock show. It's not a religious experience, except for those on psychotropic drugs. Which I wasn't, this time.
  3. Anyone offended by drunken revelry at a rock concert is misguided. You're not attending Mass or a Broadway show. It's f***ing rock and roll at the end of the day.
  4. Middletown Dream was easily the weakest song of the set. Went over like an anvil thrown to a drowning man.
  5. Loved the strings. Really great on YYZ.
  6. I was a setlist skeptic, but this show was magnificent. My uncle and I both agreed it was one of Rush's best performances that we've seen. Force Ten was phenomenal, as was Grand Designs, and all of the new album sounded sublime. Helluva great show. And let me applaud you, St. Louis. You came out in force. Very, very big crowd, the biggest I've seen in St. Louis since the GUP tour.
  7. Just had a sublime moment: The guns replaced the plow Facades are tarnished now The principles have been betrayed... Killer. Also, too, the rhythm on A Passage to Bangkok. Yes, i'm groovin' on ESL.
  8. QUOTE (drgrendel @ Sep 18 2012, 03:58 PM) QUOTE (moedrabowsky @ Sep 18 2012, 04:26 PM) Thread is not any more useless than ones telling us that 85 percent of TRF users like the setlist. Crumble that one up and throw it in the "No shit" file. Evidently, it's very important for some Rush fans to point to a poll on a Rush freak forum to prove they are "right" about the setlist being the greatest thing in the history of things. Reactions to the set are subjective. If you liked it, great. That doesn't mean that someone who did not -- and who saw a whole lot of people grumbling -- is not "wrong." We now return to your regularly-scheduled circle jerk. Rational thinking is still alive today....... Thanks! Nice to see some kindred spirits.

  10. QUOTE (Tombstone Mountain @ Sep 18 2012, 02:46 PM) QUOTE (moedrabowsky @ Sep 18 2012, 02:43 PM) Since it's not "force feeding" would they have played something else had they been asked? Semantic hairsplitting. Silly even for this thread. Nobody is making someone buy a ticket to be forcefed synth era stuff...pretty sure everyone is buying tickets willfully. Is that semantical? No, it's a non-sequitur.

  12. QUOTE (Tombstone Mountain @ Sep 17 2012, 03:54 PM) QUOTE (moedrabowsky @ Sep 17 2012, 09:52 AM) Criticism of Rush is not a direct reflection on you. And if you feel that it is, please seek some form of mental healthcare, because you're a f***ing goob. The post proves nothing other than the whiners are a wee minority and will say really hateful or mean stuff. I know its not a reflection on me, it's on the poster. Oh, and there is only one Goob--the philospical Demi-God of the Rush Forum--Rushgoober "mean?" Good stuff.
  13. QUOTE (Rushman14 @ Sep 17 2012, 03:13 PM) QUOTE (moedrabowsky @ Sep 17 2012, 10:37 AM) Grand Designs Middletown Dreams The Big Money Territories Working Man so you basically dont like Power Windows. Least favorite Rush album by a long, long shot. But, it was a joke.

I personally find it narrow-minded to think that raising a few objections equates to hating. This. But the real fans here have spoken. You're either narrow-minded, a poor music fan, not a real Rush fan or a combination of the above unless you fall to your knees and loudly proclaim that every show and album is the "BEST ONE EVER!" But it was the best Rush show ever. Nicely done. It was BY FAR the best Rush show I have seen this year. I'm positive that this will be the case for me.

  18. QUOTE (ILSnwdog @ Sep 17 2012, 01:40 PM) What's the problem with where it was placed in the set? They needed to put it all together for the string section. Because the strings are only available for the second set? Do they arrive at the arena at intermission?
  19. QUOTE (Tombstone Mountain @ Sep 17 2012, 01:41 PM) QUOTE (moedrabowsky @ Sep 17 2012, 01:31 PM) One would think they would have applied the lessons learned from the S&A tour -- namely, playing seven, eight or nine brand new songs in a row leads to the audience either taking extended merch and piss breaks or sitting on their hands. The thing is--this album is a giant compared to S & A...this is a HEAVILY anticpated event...we want to hear THESE songs live. No one has a problem listening to CA all in a row, hell...most of the people on the forum would prefer to hear the ENTIRE album--its that awesome. And to make your point, you cut out the part of my post that specifically noted that: QUOTE Of course, this album is much stronger than S&A, IMO, so it could work out okay. Thanks.
  20. For some reason this got left off the last post: Yes, I think Rush has a history of misunderstanding their fan base. I know they love to talk about their devoted fans -- and Lord knows those fans like talking about themselves -- but they have a broad popularity and they tend to forget that. We're not talking broad like AC-DC or Aerosmith, but much broader than the "cult band" image they like to perptuate.
  21. QUOTE (zappafrank @ Sep 17 2012, 01:38 PM) Well, let's change it up a bit, then: culling from a number of posts (min included) about what people expect to hear, the composition of any given audience at a show (die-hards vs. more casual fans... someone else's words, not mine ), who likes vs. hates and/or is disappointed with the current set list... do you think the boys themselves have certain expectations as to the kind of people who come to their show? It reminds me of a quote from Zappa: someone asked him why he has so many versions of the same song across albums. He said in the booklet to The Lost Episodes, "You don't know my fans. Not that they'll buy any crap that I put out there - but they just love hearing a different version of things [...] That's how my fans are." Granted, Rush doesn't play with things the way Zappa did (structure, execution, etc.), so I realize it might be apples and oranges. But along the same basic line of thinking (i.e., the sense of "a fan of this music has these characteristics"), do you think Rush is of the same mindset, that the people who are seeing them are the ones who do love (most) everything they do? People have talked about Rush earning the right to do what they want, playing for themselves and not the fans, etc. But do you think the choice of set list (and vocal backlash) is partly b/c they've misconstrued who they're playing to? That's another thing -- if Rush only wanted to "play for themselves" they would stay home wrapped in their wealth and would just have daily jam sessions. The fact is that Rush is taking this music on tour to make money. No more, no less. And if you decide you'll "do what you want" then you have to be prepared that some, maybe many, people will not be interested. And that's when the bottom line gets highlighted.
  22. QUOTE (BriGuy @ Sep 17 2012, 01:33 PM) QUOTE (GeddyRulz @ Sep 17 2012, 01:14 PM) QUOTE (RUSHFREAK101 @ Sep 17 2012, 01:04 PM) They played moving pictures all in a row 7 songs...what two more songs? Not the same. For one thing, the audience going to the Time Machine Tour knew ahead of time they'd be hearing MP in its entirety. For another thing, the Time Machine audience had 35 years to familiarize themselves with the MP songs. On the CA tour, casual concert-goers were unfamiliar with CA, and even if interested in hearing it, would've had only a few months to become familiar with it. And, oh yeah, at least four of those seven MP songs have been FM radio staples since 1981. MP has had more exposure, and over a much greater period of time, than CA... therefore, again, more people are familiar with it. Then, of course, there's the fact that EVERYONE loves MP. You and I may love CA, but you must admit it's more divisive than the universally-loved MP. But it's called the "Clockwork Angels" tour. If people don't know what they're in for going in, well, not much you can do about that. If they didn't play a bunch of the new music, people should be surprised. Once again, no one is complaining about new material -- it's about its placement in the set. Man there are strawmen falling like the Confederates at Antietam around here.
