Neither, the overall lack of votes is what I was looking to be more accepting/tolerant. The general outrage was an entirely unexpected factor.

Really? So we are pawns in your little social experiment?

    Not pawns, just uninformed participants.

I never said this was a calculated attempt to get banned, I said that I felt I may for the poll that I was going to post.

    This post explains so much.

    It makes his OP bullshit.

Not at all, I posted it with the intent of finding out how tolerant/accepting people here were, while at the same time acknowledging the controversial nature of the topic.

Clearly if I was trying to get banned I'd stop responding to these posts in civilized ways and go about it in a more efficient manner, no?

If all this isn't a calculated attempt to get banned, as you implied on FB earlier today, then you're just clueless. You have no idea what kind of subject matter is inappropriate in mixed company. Either way, that makes us sad for you.

At least you're getting all kinds of attention today, and in the past couple weeks. That's gotta make you feel good, huh? Even negative attention is good attention, right?

I never said this was a calculated attempt to get banned, I said that I felt I may for the poll that I was going to post.

  4. I didn't choose the text, but I figured the avatar image would be small enough that the text would go unnoticed but the inspirational aspect of the picture would remain intact. The man didn't let his disability stop him from becoming a conductor.

No guys, don't worry. I'm black.

Today's synonym for complete childish and inappropriate jackass is... black.

    I take offence to this.

Tide, do you understand why people are skeptical of your explanation here?

As I, Mara and others pointed out in Ghostie's thread, you've been flirting with trolldom lately. You commandeered people's signature avatars a couple weeks ago, posted a racially offensive image in SOCN last week, and today you made another racially offensive poll.

Plus, let's face it, you've shown a tendency for attention-seeking in the past. How many times did you publicly threaten to quit the board?

It's that pattern, plus your comments on FB as you were posting today's poll that make us scratch our heads at you here. Can you see where we're coming from?

Tide, why not comment on this, if you don't mind. Make us understand you better here.

Firstly the image from SOCN was intended as nothing more than a joke, it wasn't meant to cause offence and I'm sorry if it did.

The thread was meant as nothing more than what I've previously posted, and yes, in retrospect I did go about it in a poor manner. As for Kenneth, if I had told him the purpose of the thread the results ran the risk of being skewed.

  7. I'm sorry, the intended purpose of my poll was to take 2 of the most persecuted groups in history and see how they would fare on a fanboard with a fairly large range of people. I suppose I didn't go about it the best way I could have, but the fact that nobody voted seems to indicate that the folks on the board are rather accepting, and not prone to antagonizing others.

    My honest opinion.
I think if Neal had not had such tragedy in his life, losing his wife and daughter, he would not be such a cynical person today, and his lyrics would be different then then currently are.
I may be wrong but that is honestly what I think.
For some things you experience in life, time does not heal, and sufficient answers never come.
Sometimes we are left living with the question, "why?"are whole lives, never having total peace.

I agree. Those events definitely changed his life. How can we expect him to write songs as if nothing had ever happened? That's just not possible.

I'm sure those events "changed him," but you guys are both ignoring an obvious fact: he was highly critical of religion well before the tragic deaths of his daughter and wife.

And, if anything, he's lightened up some since then, and is more open.
