  1. I'm also of the opinion that he did a lot of his best work in that era. At the same time, I acknowledge that the synths were the more dominant sound, and Geddy's bass isn't always at the forefront. As a casual listener, I would probably see the synths as what I remember the albums for. Generally speaking, I'd wager most casual fans wouldn't really delve into the album to see what's there and appreciate it.

The disc will most likely contain footage of Rush's April 15 concert at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.

Just most likely? That is news...or just wrong.

  3. What about distinguishing Vermont from Vapor Trails? In fairness, a majority of people abbreviate VP, anyway, but still....Can my great state please not be associated with that horribly-mixed album?

To the topic at hand, (if Cosy hadn't been banned, seemingly), I'd recommend an acronym to differentiate, like PeW/PoW. That said, I guess it's a moot point.

  4. I'd like to preface this by noting that I'm not taking sides here. That said, I should note that the author of particular words does not always have the final say in the liner notes. As an example, I point to PeW; the liner notes say something like "If you choose not to decide, you cannot have made a choice," but that's not how they turned out on the album - and I doubt Neil is thinking, "Grr...Geddy's been singing it wrong all these years!" I'm just saying that 1. Things change and 2. Other people paraphrase.
  5. The only incidence - off the top of my head - at least in terms of song titles would be "No One At the Bridge." I don't have CoS on me, so I can't say how it appears on the actual album cover, but everything I found on the internet had no hyphen.

If you were talking about something in the lyrics, I don't know.

Good thought, but doubtful. It's cheaper to film outside the US. In fact, which was filmed IN the US (besides the "unofficial bootlegs" from S&A)? Memory serving, ESL was in Quebec, GUP was in Toronto, ASoH was in in England, DS would have been in Ontario again, RiR was in Brazil, R30 was in Frankfurt, and S&AL was in Rotterdam. Shit....the more I think about it, the less likely it seems. sad.gif

    I stand corrected.

I *kinda* feel the same.  I literally have no dinero for this leg; but if they did end up coming to upstate NY or somewhere near family in New England; I'd scrounge it up somehow..

If they're strictly playing only venues they didn't hit last leg, they could hit Manchester, Mansfield, or Hartford...just to name a few off the top of my head.

Of course, I'd love it if they played closer to here. Granted, these venues are a bit smaller than they play, but since this isn't an area of great Rush fandom, I'd wager it would be me and some other TRF New Englanders. Some possibilities (unlikely though they may be, I'd LOVE to see them in all of them):

    Latchis Theatre, Brattleboro, VT

    Colonial Theatre, Keene, NH

Calvin Theater, Northampton, MA (They've actually had some big names play here, so you never know)

Or for an outdoor venue, Pines Theater, Northampton, MA

I know...the chances of them playing anywhere actually close to me are slim to none, but I can dream. smile.gif

Since i read / heard they are doing Madison Square Garden , they should do it there .

"Its time i was king and not just one more pawn." sounds a lot like "Its time i was king now i just f***ed my mom".....

Freud might have a few thoughts on the subject. biggrin.gif

I was watching an old episode of Futurama, one where they take turns talking to the "what-if" machine. Fry asked what if life were more like a videogame. And so we're presented with a scenario where several mostly classic 80's videogames make cameo appearances:

    Asteroids
    Donkey Kong
    Mario Brothers
    PacMan
    Qbert
    Space Invaders

Near the end, Earth is being invaded by Space Invaders, and it's up to Fry to save the planet. He used to rule at Space Invaders, so he puts his lucky helmet on, cranks up some music, and proceeds to kick butt. The song thats getting airplay while he's shooting 'em up? --

    Tom Sawyer
"...and the space he invades, he gets by on you..."

Get it? Space invaders, space he invades. It happens quickly, but when I caught it, it sure made me smile inside. Then it made me mad for a sec: "Wait a minute, are you saying that nerdy videogamers listened to Rush while dominating?" Then I laughed again, cuz I realized, "why yes, yes indeed, that IS how it went down back then." At least in my case.

Ah, videogames, Dungeon and Dragons, and Rush in the 80's. Brings back memories of how me and my 7th to 9th grade circle of friends killed time together. th1245.gif

I believe this is the scene you're talking about: http://www.comedycentral.com/videos/index....&videoId=162725

  11. Just the other day, my friend posted on my FB wall that he thought the lyrics to Tom Sawyer were "and the Space Invader gets by on you," and was surprised when he looked up the lyrics and found out he was wrong. biggrin.gif

It's the same thing as joking about Bono's guitar not being plugged in for U2 fans. He always seems to like holding it more than actually playing it. But do you really need Bono to play guitar? No.

Kinda like Yes's Jon Anderson back in 1979 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8RPEsmjVvA&p=B75146BB98B2880E&playnext=1&index=15). Oh yeah, Jon...you really added a new dimension to that song. Er, I meant: you were playing? It seems some singers feel left out of the whole instrument thing.
