  1. You've already said it's going to suck. Why do you keep asking? I'm not saying I agree with you , but if you've made up your mind, why do you keep asking for other people to agree or disagree with you?

Man, does geddy sound terrible  on freewill, hope they touch his vocals up a bit before the dvd comes out.. Go ahead blast me. who cares. the fact is that geddy isnt good live vocally anymore . and this dvd will prove it unless they fix the bad spots.. facts are facts..

The studio version is almost always superior!

Different strokes, I guess. Usually, the CDs I make for people are all live. Personal preference. confused13.gif

Edit: accidentally posted a link to a TRF topic tongue.gif

You probably want to edit that again. You fixed the text, but the link is still to this very thread.

  4. Let's not settle for any old conjecture here. Let's see what the experts have to say:

There you have it, I guess.

  5. The set was reviewed today at Digital Bits (http://www.thedigitalbits.com/#mytwocents).

Also on the music front today, Universal Music has announced something that should make you Rush fans very happy - they're releasing a trio of Sectors CD box sets on 11/21 - including 5 remastered albums each - from Rush's 15-album Mercury catalog. Each volume ($45.09 a piece on Amazon) will also include a booklet with album lyrics, unpublished photos and more, plus a DVD version of one of the albums in the set with high-resolution 96/kHz/24-bit audio. [Editor's Note: For those of you who (like me) want the ENTIRE set - all 15 albums - in 96/24 lossless instead of 44.1/16 CD quality, I'm told by Universal Music that they will all be available for download on the HDTracks.com store for about $17.98 an album.] Sector 1 will include Rush (1974), Fly by Night (1975), Caress of Steel (1975), 2112 (1976) and All the World's a Stage (1976), plus a Fly by Night DVD. Sector 2 will include A Farewell to Kings (1977), Hemispheres (1978), Permanent Waves (1980), Moving Pictures (1981) and Exit... Stage Left (1981), plus a DVD of A Farewell to Kings. And Sector 3 will include Signals (1982), Grace Under Pressure (1984), Power Windows (1985), Hold Your Fire (1987) and A Show of Hands (1988), as well as a DVD of Signals. Here's a look at the sets (note that the Amazon link takes you to the pre-order page for Sector 1 - the other 2 sets are linked from there)...

No mention of 5.1. Odd. Amazon mentions it in their link, so you'd figure the review would make some mention of it.

  6. I can see what the OP is saying, but it's a vague resemblance at best. Bassists will probably see what I mean.

    My Sharona:

    Q e Q e Q e q q Q e Q e Q e e e e e Q e Q e Q e q q Q e Q e

So yeah...same general progression, but a different key. I'd say they look a lot more like cousins than twins.

  7. QUOTE (gabpower @ Oct 19 2011, 12:41 PM)
@kbomb : what's on the matrix around the label?

I didn't think there was a matrix number on it, but upon closer inspection while holding it up to the light, I found (handwritten) 884 191 7 2 58580 ES...or at least that's the best I can make out of it.

  8. Another question I feel I should raise: Was this also your opinion in 1984? Back then, did you think "Gee, these haircuts and clothes are stupid," or did you think "I gotta get me some pants like that!"? Tastes change over time.
  9. QUOTE (sdaly @ Oct 14 2011, 04:41 PM)
Are you saying you have this SAME test pressing? Or a test pressing of something else?

I doubt it's the same, as mine isn't labeled, while yours seems to be. To be honest, I can't even verify that it's Rush on there; that's just what it says on it. If I got ripped off, it was only to the tune of like $4, so I won't cry too hard. If it winds up being worth thousands, good for me (highly doubt it).

    Here's mine:

  10. I have one, but I couldn't tell you the going market value. I've never played it, and the only reason I have it is because I found it for a couple of bucks at a record show. Did I get ripped off, or did the vendor? Time will tell. One of these decades, I'll get a record player and find out.
  11. QUOTE (clem @ Oct 7 2011, 11:05 PM)
never really got what he meant by:

"dreamers learn to hide in the gutter, and then look at the cars" or whatever. from "The Pass"

    Clem

I always thought it was "...dreamers tend to look at the cause" until I read the lyrics. Somehow, IMO, what I heard makes more sense. I'd think dreamers might focus more on the reason for something than...you know, cars. confused13.gif

  12. Crucified? Wow.

"You know what I'm going to get you next Christmas, Mom? A big wooden cross, so that every time you feel unappreciated for your sacrifices, you can climb on up and nail yourself to it. " Anyone who can identify the quote gets a big smiley face from me.

  13. QUOTE (Tommy Sawyer @ Sep 26 2011, 05:54 PM)
Seriously? No one has mentioned the What You're Doing riff vs. Heartbreaker. THEY ARE THE SAME

    Well, very similar. confused13.gif

Yeah. How did nobody mention this previously? I also agree about the Heartbreaker vs BB&B, though it's maybe not quite as obvious. However (and I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this one, either), listen to 0:53-1:00 of

and compare it to 0:23-0:36 of Song Remains the Same. To say those 2 riffs are unrelated would be (IMO) naive.
