  1. Ged's voice sounded great Thursday night! Such an improvement from when I saw them on the Clockwork Angels tour....especially on a song like Subdivisions.
  2. Nice review....I was there as well! And what a RUSH it was! (pun absolutely intended. ;) ) Alex was on FIRE! Holy shit...and Geddy's bass CUT THROUGH like a knife cuts butter! Oh, and his voice was great, too! And Neil...top of his game. They were on Thursday night. This was my 3rd Rush show. Tied for my favorite with the Snakes and Arrows one @Shoreline in Mountain View c. 2007. They still have it-whatever "it" is! :)
  3. A true Rush fan believes that Rush lost their mojo when Rutsey left the band. *hides*.
  4. If anything, Rush's respectability (and popularity, for that matter) among the general public and the music critics/intelligentsia (who had despised them for decades) has been on an upward trajectory over the past decade or so. The fact that Neil is still up there, doing his thing, after the horrific personal tragedies and loss that he went through in the 90s; The fact all three of them are most certainly NOT stereotypical "rock stars", but are incredibly humble, gracious, and with a wacky, self-effacing sense of humor (both onstage and offstage); The fact that their playing level is as good as it has ever been, if not better-at 60+years of age; The fact that they are on their 41st year with the same band lineup-three musicians, one power trio, an enormous amount of sound... And the fact that they were FINALLY acknowledged by the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame (which matters only in terms of the symbolism that they have been "accepted" and are (at least grudgingly) respected by the critics-who had hated them for so many years, All of this is evidence that Rush have a LOT of respectability, and it's all well-deserved.
  5. OMFG.... *bows down to Ged (more like "God", at least when it comes to singing and playing NASTY, re-dork-ulous bass parts at the same time!) Hadn't listened to CA in a while...so when I put Caravan on this morning, I was like, "AWWW YEAHHHHH!" Anyway, thanks for playin' along....LOL.
  6. Tie for me between "The Anarchist" and "Seven Cities of Gold."
  7. Man, I never posted my review of the show... I thought it was fantastic, in a different way from my previous Rush concert experience (Snakes and Arrows 2007).The often-controversial, yet still loved (by many) mid-late-80s material worked really well. Good to hear The Big Money, The Analog Kid, and Red Sector A, among others. However, for me the highlight of the show was the whole Clockwork Angels set. They damn near played the entire album....including some of my favorites like The Anarchist, Seven Cities of Gold, and of course, The Garden. The string section worked really well, IMO, and they also added a lot to YYZ (that was a treat to hear!) I agree with the opinion that Geddy's voice got better throughout the night. Maybe it was all the water he drank? Seemed like he took a drink after every song....good to stay hydrated! Anyway, Geddy did his thing (or things...bass, synths, and foot pedals as well as vocals, often at the same time!) splendidly well, and Alex played like a champ. Neil did seem just a tad subdued, but that's ok...his 3 drum solos were very cool, and he still played the show better than damn near anyone else could have! Overall, it was an incredible experience, and I am GLAD that they have changed their setlist from previous tours. That's a sign of a band that doesn't rest on its laurels, but continues to move forward....
  8. Gonna head down to the Pavillion very soon...can't wait!
  9. ...so here's an (early) happy birthday thread. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/4c/NeilPeart.JPG/250px-NeilPeart.JPG Happy birthday, Neil Ellwood Peart, OC!! A truly inspirational and downright interesting man, in addition to being widely considered to be one of the greatest and most influential drummers alive! Here's to the man who continues to play drums and write lyrics (IMHO) better than ever!!
  10. QUOTE (satyr @ Sep 10 2012, 07:53 PM) They Dont Give A Shit,Its What Ever Makes Them Money,While Being As Easy As Possible On Themselves. ROFL, nope.
  11. In my view, Rush have proven themselves, time and time again, to the point where they can do whatever they want, whenever they want, and I'm OK with that. They've played a lot of those 70s/early 80s songs so many times, why can't they dust off some of their under-appreciated or overlooked tunes from the mid/late 80s or later on? Because some fans want them to play the "classics" forever? This setlist looks awesome, and I look forward to seeing them in November.
  12. Personally, I'm fine without an extended solo piece from Geddy. He already does a huge amount for Rush musically, in terms of vocals, bass lines, keyboard/synth parts, songwriting, and arrangement. That being said, if Geddy chose to add a bass solo, that would be cool.
  13. Thanks for the warm welcome....yeesh.
  14. If the Rolling Stones can continue indefinitely, then why can't Rush??
  15. ...that it's easily the best Rush album since Counterparts. I love pretty much all of Rush's material, to varying extents, but this album is just amazing, in terms of musicianship, power, and grittiness. Some have criticized the production/mixing on Rush's recent albums, and while I understand that, on this album it works. Favorite cuts: The Anarchist, Seven Cities of Gold, Headlong Flight, and The Garden.
  16. For me, it's the whole package. Guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, lyrics, vocals (yes, even vocals ), musicianship, songwriting, melodic sensibilities, live performances, wacky sense of humor..... It's all there!

    8/10 from me.
  19. Armor and Sword. Just a brilliant track. "No one gets to their heaven without a fight...."
  20. If it sounds like Anthem, I will be happy (as long as it's not a straight-up clone of any song though). I love it when Rush is heavy and aggressive!
  21. The production is bad, but I agree that it's an underrated album.
  22. Caravan "I can't stop thinking big, I can't stop thinking big....."
  23. And man, did it lift my mood! Such a GREAT tune, by a GREAT band!
  24. When I first heard Rush on the radio (not knowing who it was), I thought the singer was a woman But his voice has grown on me. It's not great, but it's unique.
