  1. my first thought when i heard that Rush might be inducted was, I hope they don't get in, and if they do get in and show up for it I will loose all respect for them. This video is the perfect example of why RRHOF has no credability. It's not that they don't get it, it's that these guys are about nothing but a bunch know it all activists that live in an elite utopion snoboturium. Rush an some of the others like Yes are about music and nothing but. They don't kiss the butts of all the powers that be and all the activist that are trying to save the world. They just make great music and more great music, and quietly do thier own right thing. What is lost on these guys is that there are so many people that play an instrument (and well) because of Rush and Yes and some of the others. I don't think I know a single player who does not cite Neil or Geddy as a reason to play. These two morons are clueless and will never get it. I hope Rush never joins RRHOF since integrety seems so offensive to them. Glittering prizes and endless compromises, shadder the illusion of integrity. These 2 turds would not know integrity if jumps up and bit them on the face.
  2. Does anyone think Rush will record Toronto for a dvd/cd since it is 2 nights, home crowd, Ged's voice is still strong? I have not heard anything being said about it, but it would be a great opportunity to tape both nights and get all the songs from the new cd and then pick the best out of the repeat songs. I don't think we have any DVD's of Rush playing to the home crowd either. The biggest plus to me would be to get all on film while Geddy's voice seems to be pretty strong. They tend to wait until the end of the tour and he was struggling a bit on the Time machine. This is a good setlist for them to get on film before it changes. I consider myself pretty hardcore oldschool Rush but I'm digging this group of songs from the 80's plus the new stuff.
  3. QUOTE (RushIslander @ Aug 19 2012, 05:00 PM) QUOTE (losingit2k @ Aug 19 2012, 03:27 PM) I know the Pedlar asks several times; "What do you lack?" ON Clockwork Angels Where here it is: The 5.1 Making of video that accompanied their last CD. I know right about now I could use a making of video of the recording of this incredible post MP masterpiece. It would be so great watching Nick conduct Neil through Headlong Flight, or watching Geddy just letting loose on the bass during 7Cog, Or Alex pieceing together that incredible lead during The Anarchist. Even the String section recording their magnificent part during The Wrecker would have been a feast for the eyes. This album has so many great moments that it truly a making of Video. Which IMHO is the only thing that the pedlar could provide. I agree 100%!!! I really hope they do release footage on video of them recording this AWESOME album! I agree. I would be happy with just the 5.1 like S&A (which is smoking hot by the way), but the making of would be cool too.
  4. You did and you type faster than i do. I just started the same thread
  5. They played a snipet of The Anarchist going into the break of the Sunday Night Football Game Colts /Steelers !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. Take him to the show. You will question yourself if you don't. The big question is , does he want to go? If it's yes, get some ear protectors and have a good time. In fact get him a Neil Peart "King of Etheopia" hat and some drum sticks and perhaps he will make the video like the kid in the Time Machine dvd. That is one of my favorite fan shots of all time by the way.
  7. I had the same problem, but if you go straight to the website they are there. I used google http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/r/rush/hea...flight_btab.htm http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/r/rush/the...rchist_btab.htm
  8. I distincltly remember being pretty pissed about MP when I got home and listended to it when it first came out. I was 15 when it came out and had already been listening to them for a while. I caught on to Rush right at AFTK. I thought 2112 was the benchmark for Rush. The progression between 2112 and Hemisphers was perfect for me. In my mind, MP was a sellout and PerW was the pre- sell out, although I loved PerW at the time. I was pretty hardcore 15 yr old kid back then. I thought Signals and GUP had too much keys and not enough bass. I loved Power Windows and most of what Rush has done since. Not a big fan of RTB. I did not get thru TFE when it came out. I regarded it as garbage. In retrospect, attitudes change and tastes change. The olnly cd I ever just clearly hated and refused to listen to was TFE. That as why I am not bashing or hailing the new cd as a return to 2112 or putting it in the leauge. Time will tell. I think it is a very solid piece of work. As far as the boards go. Its' hard to say how they would go over back then becuase our culture has changed so much over time. I don't know how popular these boards would have been back in the 70's or 80's. We were still opinionated about stuff, but I think we talked about it or dealt with it all a little different. I don't know. I now like most of Signals , GUP, MP. I am now really learning to appreciate TFE, although it has taken a while.
  9. QUOTE (Gilbertk @ Jun 30 2012, 05:16 PM) I tabbed out Caravan and BU2B for bass way back when they first came out, and the bass parts haven't changed at all except for different mixing and effects. I also tabbed out Headlong Flight and just submitted, hopefully it will be approved soon. Right now I'm working on The Anarchist and Clockwork Angels (for bass of course). Anyone else started learning and/or tabbing for guitar or bass? I have no idea how drum tabs work, but has anyone at least started learning the songs off the new album? My Caravan bass tab: http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/r/rush/caravan_ver2_btab.htm BU2B: http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/r/rush/bu2b_btab.htm I will post the rest when they are approved for the site. And just a note, my username on UG is Jasonbts, but yeah it's me. That username is just a nod to the Bourne series. First of all, thanks for tabbing out Caravan and BU2B. I look forward to seeing the others that you mentioned would be posted soon. I don't know how to write tabs, so I really appreciate those who do. As far as the new cd , I think I pretty much have Halo and Garden figured out on bass. 2 Very pretty songs. I have the basic idea of the bass for the title track and 7 Cities. I have not had a lot of time to sit down and work with them. It seems to me that these songs are not too technical , but seem pretty complex in spots. The title track seems to have a lot going on, but I think once I can get all the patterns down , it shouldn't be too bad. Overall, I look forward to sitting down with this new music and trying to figure them out.
  10. I like the sound of the bass on the album version. I hear some flanging or something. It sounds cool.

Just pick and choose your set list: This and take into consideration that they will play most if not all of the new album, and you should have a pretty good list to work from. The good news is there is plenty of good Rush music to listen as prep.
  12. I just don't see Rush bringing a string orchestra of any kind. They will use programing and keys like they always do. If I am wrong I will be as surpised as the rest of you. I just see anyone other than Rush palying at a Rush show.
  13. QUOTE (IEATZ28 @ Jun 21 2012, 04:50 PM) Anyone hear if there will be an MVI release of CA similar to the S&A release? It'd be cool if they'd release HD audio other than just downloadable files. T I would love an MVI release of this one. I have the MVI from S&A and it sounds so good in 5.1. Mal Nar was just sick on this one. If I had CA on MVI i probobly never leave my house again!
  14. QUOTE (Owen Hardy @ Jun 18 2012, 04:44 PM) QUOTE (SchemingDemon @ Jun 18 2012, 02:26 PM)Sounds like the plan is to play most of CA on the first leg then switch it up a little on a second leg. Sounds great to me RIAB just posted an Alex Lifeson Billboard interview where he seems to indicate the opposite "could" happen: "There's a great deal of pressure on us now to do the whole record, which we don't anticipate. I think our intention is probably to prepare the whole thing; whether we'll do it or not we're still not sure, especially on the first leg of the tour. There's still a lot of older stuff we want to do, and we've got some great songs lined up from the past. We'd be loathe to drop them to add more of 'Clockwork Angels,' at least on the first leg. It's always nice to switch up on the second leg and make it a little different." ... Alex, give in to the pressure, the path of least resistance my friend, play the whole thing. Bring in circus carnies and huge clocks hanging from the rafters. Go Pink Ployd on our butts.
  15. My 2 cents is now is the best time to play the new album in its entirety. Since it is epic, the have not done epic in a while, and that is what they are know for. Rush seems to be surging in popularity these days. What a statement to make. My guess is that the band would do the first set as the entire new album, take a break and do really hot second set. I notice that many of the shows are indoors, which lends itself better for a cool lighting show. The new album is begging for an amazing light show. It would be spectaculer. A pretty far out prediction, but I think the timing is right for it. As far as the second set goes, maybe a couple of old classic like Jacobs Ladder, but most likely the same stuff. In theory, it's a little bit for everyone, new cd, a couple from the vault , the stuff they have to play. They can be bold and play it safe at the same time. At the end of the day, everyone is happy (not)
  16. QUOTE (Godeater2112 @ Jun 18 2012, 01:36 PM) ^---- Sorry to be the wet blanket, but no frigging way they make their shows any longer, let along an hour. You know how long and exhausting these shows are for them already? There is the general physical strain and exhaustion + the added element of Geddy's voice. If anything they may shorten the set slightly and quality-wise this probably wouldn't be a bad thing.
  17. Now that someone has taken it upon themselves to leak the new Rush album against the wishes of the band that we all say we love, I wonder how we all feel about ourselves knowing that we are ripping off our favorite band. I see all these threads about how great the album is or "the official whatever" thread, and i am thinking, wait a minute, the album is not out yet. I am sure many of you will rationalze that you will purchase later. Maybe so, but many won't, that is a fact, so the band we love is getting ripped off. We now have about a million threads about the new album that Rush has not released the album yet. Rush did not intend for anyone to hear it until it is released next week. Rush has stated thier distaste for this since VT was leaked, but here we are again pissing on the band the band once again. Does this not bother anyones concience, or do we all just care about ourselves? Just a thought as I wait "Lit up in anticipation" for June 12 Let the flaming begin
  18. QUOTE (Rush Cocky @ Jun 6 2012, 12:01 PM) QUOTE (Just an Escape Artist @ Jun 6 2012, 12:57 PM) That having been said, I think they should keep this schedule like it is just to piss off Rush Cocky! Heh. We'll talk later.... The wounds of a friend are are faithful! or is it fatal, I can never remember
  19. My answer to the original question is simple. I think that the band can retire and is in semi-retirement, but love what they do and have a hard time letting it go. At thier age, they count the cost as to whether they want to take on an album, tour, and the whole shabang. If they all agree, than it's a go. Geddy has stated that he feels like he has another great song that he has not written. I don't think this band is capable of writing bad songs. It's a matter of how much they feel like they want to do. I think it has almost nothing to do with money. At 28 and 22 mil, they have plenty of it. (1 percenters i think ) , but the money is not bad , so hey why not. I think they reason: Geddy loves to tour, the band still has good music to make, the fans still want it, do an album and tour every so often, Neil rides his bike while the other 2 work the crowd. It's an inspired deal, and everybody is happy. Especially us fans who are getting an epic album and a tour to boot! That having been said, I think they should keep this schedule like it is just to piss off Rush Cocky!
  20. To me the breakthru for Headlong Flight is that the music is allowed to breathe. Music has got to breathe. That is the problem with digital distortion, it crowds out good sounds for the sake of getting more volume. I would be interested in what Caravan and BU2B sound like if they have been re-recorded, because to my ears Headlong sounds pretty good, even better than Caravan and BU2B from what I am hearing. I wonder if the Geddster is now getting back involved in the mixing again? that would be good news I understand what what some are saying about the waves, but the bottom line is VT is an over compressed pile of mud that does not breathe. I have the MITA mix and the re-mix of OLV and Earthshine. they are improved some, but still don't don't breath the way Headlong and the older stuff does. I will be very excited to hear the new cd in it's entirety. So far sound is very exciting!
  21. Charlotte NC here I come! These look like mostly indoor places. I don't understand Atlanta in November outside, it's gonna be chilly I bet the first set is the entire new cd, and a long second set filled with the rest of the good stuff.
  22. if the choice is between the cd and dvd, and not the cd, dvd or blue-ray, then buy the cd, save for a blue-ray player if you don't have one, and then get the blue-ray. The blue-ray is what you want, the best choice by far.
  23. QUOTE (gingermart @ Jan 1 2012, 05:55 AM) ok thankyou all for your help The other thing to consider is you are using HDMI or not. My system is a little older, it has DTS but not HDMI. Some blue-ray that are HD-DTS will default to digital EX or something like that if you are not running HDMI to your receiver. Mine does that sometimes. I am running optical cable. The Rush blue-ray however should show either DTS or 2.0. The 2.0 sucks. the DTS is sweet as all get out, especially the drum mix. I think the DVD is the samer two choices, DTS and 2.0. The DTS is a far better choice than 5.1 anyway IMO. Hope that helps and not confuses. Also, you may want to check your cable conection, I find that if my optical cable pops loose or disconnected, it will screw things up for me. Good Luck
  24. Here is my view on the whole Geddy's voice thing. Rush went out on tour and played MP in entirety, taped it and is now on blue ray and cd. This is good, and they are getting props for it. When the less then hardcores buy it, the first thing they will do is go to Freewill because they want to see Geddy and Alex shredding it. They will see that and Geddy hitting the notes and that all that will matter to them. The rest is icing on the cake. No one expects Geddy to sing like he did 30 years, and i don't think anyone cares, but he hits the notes on Freewill and a few others, and the rest of the band is shredding all the rest of the music music. that is what will get talked about. Overall the vocals are good enough to compliment the incredible musicianship and light show experience that people expect at a Rush Concert. The bottom line is Rush is still out there kicking butt like they always have and people are finally starting to notice. That is the real story.
  25. I think the song sounds great on the cd. however I really liked it how on Rush in Rio it goes straight into the drum solo. I played around with my ipod, creating a playlist for the entire show and moved the song to just in front of the drum solo, where I wanted it to go. I chopped off the last 2 or 3 seconds where Geddy speaks at the end of the song, and now have a nice flow of Leave that Thing Alone right into Moto Perpetuo. I was not a real big fan of Caravan going into the drum solo. No big deal, but that was a pretty cool solution. Now I have a nice long second set!
