  2. I cannot believe that I never posted in this thread back in the day! Oh well, I shall do so now. It was February 17, 1990 - The opening show on the Presto Tour! The location was in the Greenville Memorial Auditorium in Greenville, South Carolina. https://www.cygnus-x1.net/links/rush/tourdates.php#PRESTO Some friends and I had tickets and we were on our way back from Atlanta for a fun weekend, and it was a great show (naturally). The first time we heard the rather wacky combination of Xanadu & Superconductor! Mr. Big opened for them, and I just remember thinking that guy on bass can really play. "That guy" turned out to be Billy Sheehan, of course.

  5. My contention is that live Rush in general accomplishes this "great songs....show[ing]...their full potential." when they are finally played live. I would only quibble w that w last 2-3 albums because Geddy's voice got rough... This is 100% correct, the last albums were exceptions, most notably the last one. I mean, it's the Clockwork Angels TOUR and he's struggling to sing Clockwork Angels songs? WTH?
  6. He's not the only one. Neil is on record as saying he hated it too.

    Alex and TSOR

Man, I'm amazed at how good he is, in spite of his (clearly visible) cracked hands. Some personal guitar history and a very nice breakdown of TSOR. Even though I still can't understand it, being a drummer and not a guitarist. :D Loved this quote from the comments section: And this one: Sorry about the audio disappearing at the 29 minute mark, but it does come back. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyjJeTpHScw

  10. I think that is a coincidence actually, but it certainly works as that if you want it to. That's I had always looked at it too. People forget that not long before this, the Hale-Bopp comet passed through our solar system and was very bright in the sky every night for a few weeks, which lends credence to the comet interpretation.
  11. I guess I was one of the few folks who didn't know that Alex actually took classical guitar lessons for a couple of years, and that he can actually read music and sit down and play Bach pieces and such. I have also heard that he advises anyone who is interested in guitar to start with classical because it will teach you the "technique and discipline" (his own words) to go on to all other forms of music. This advice is from the most "spontaneous" musician in Rush, lol.

  13. I actually stumbled across this looking for an instructional video of how to play "Broon's Bane" Why? Because my son heard it in the car, and he wanted to pick up his guitar and try it. He played the first two phrases, and decided his hands were too small to do the necessary fingerings correctly, and he gave it up after about an hour. I give him an "A" for effort, I could tell he really wanted to please the old man, and he has grown to like Rush (primarily because of my love for them). 2112 is his favorite. :dweez:
