Geddy Auctioned Six Guitars From His Collection
RushFanForever replied to blueschica's topic in Rush
As Joe said in the clip with Conan O'Brien, he had left Aerosmith and needed the money. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnl3HA8a848 I like Joe Bonamassa's interview with Rick Nielsen - they're both massive instrument collectors. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKyMWkcr5-8 From Louder. Thinking Out Loud: Rick Nielsen ...But it’s never been about fame or money for me. I’m a musician, so I’m supposed to be poor. I worked hard when we were struggling along and I’ve worked hard since we’ve done well. -
Last Concert Video/Movie Watched.

Yesterday I attended a local farmers market event, which occurs every Friday evening (5-8pm) from May to Sept in my hometown. There's a MCC Thrift Shop nearby, which is also open in the evening for people to shop at. I look around and there's a used DVD copy of Almost Famous in immaculate condition that I bought. I missed seeing the film initially when it was released over 20 years ago. However I've read various pieces about it before, including a couple of career interviews with Cameron Crowe, where it's mentioned. Needless to say it was a great film to see last night. I'll add the following to this post as well. Rolling Stone magazine recently did an Almost Famous 20th Anniversary series on the film with interview articles and podcasts, which can be heard and viewed here. -

My comments were more about Tyler possibly gifting Perry a second 1959 Gibson Les Paul. -

What does Tyler want it for? He can't play a lick! Maybe Steven Tyler was going to gift it to Joe Perry. Joe Perry owns a 1959 Gibson Les Paul, which he sold but was later returned. Joe Perry, Eric Johnson ("Cliffs of Dover" fame), and Slash are part of this journey of the guitar. Check out the story about it below. You'll notice how Cheap Trick is mentioned again indirectly. Geddy Auctioned Six Guitars From His Collection
RushFanForever replied to blueschica's topic in Rush
It says Las Vegas 2019 Oct 10-12 Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick bought Geddy's 1959 Gibson Les Paul as noted here. As well, Nielsen was interviewed recently by Guitar Player magazine and mentions the guitar. ... back in January 2020, I actually won Geddy Lee's former 1959 Les Paul Standard at a Mecum auction in Florida. I'd known about the guitar for a long time and I was semi-chasing it, because the 1959 Les Paul that my Rick Nielsen "Collector's Choice" Gibson Custom Historic model was based on was also a guitar I got in Canada, around 1980. I sort of forgot all about this particular guitar until it resurfaced with Geddy. The auction was January 10, and right as the gavel went up, the same day and same hour - the same minute basically - was when Neil Peart died. I didn't want to seem like a ghoul, so I didn't tell anyone immediately that I had the guitar. Eventually word got out, and the guitar dealer Drew Berlin offered me twice what I paid for it. And when Steven Tyler saw that I had the guitar, he offered me even more money for it. [Did you take Steven's offer?] Nope! ... -

I wish I had the charismatic personality like blueschica. It seems like some individual's make building and maintaining relationships with other's look easy. It's always been a challenge for me to an extent, and I wish it wasn't. I try to be a generous and giving individual, but it doesn't seem like it's enough. blueschica what's your secret to being you? On a side note, there's times I can't stand anything about the 21st century, let alone existing in it. It's more complex and complicated with uncertainty and unpredictability than the 20th century was.

Coldplay's new album title as the same as this forum

I had forgotten that the phrase "music of the spheres" is a lyric from 'The Analog Kid'. This old article here from Circus magazine makes use of the same phrase. -
From Neil Peart's 2002 book Ghost Rider. In May of 1997, on the Test For Echo tour, Rush played a concert at The Gorge, an outdoor amphitheater overlooking the treeless banks of the Columbia, which rippled westward from the backstage area in muscular bulges of yellow grass. In early evening, the air's perfect clarity played infinite shadings of light over the simple, dramatic landscape, and we took the stage in front of about 20,000 people (one of our largest crowds ever) just as the slow sunset dimmed into the cloudless, transparent twilight - soon overpowered by the colored stage lights, follow spots, and video screens, and overlooked by a rising half moon. It was the most beautiful setting in which I had ever performed. A lady friend of mine who resides in Spokane saw this Rush concert. We've exchanged gifts in the mail as pen pals. She sent me a framed album cover of Disraeli Gears by Cream, which is a favorite album of mine. I replied with a gifted copy of the Ghost Rider book, since she likes reading rock biographies. Her ticket stub of The Gorge concert is bookmarked on the above mentioned page from Neil's description of the event. On a side note, when I mailed my lady friend Ghost Rider, I didn't think twice about Neil's comments regarding the above. This was just another random gift for a fellow Rush fan. She told me that his comments about The Gorge concert were mind-blowing and then I understood. I also told her about the new documentary on The Gorge, which she is going to check out.

I've heard that Sonic Perspectives interview that Rod did with Stewart Copeland. Funny enough earlier on today, I emailed Rod the recent MusicRadar interview with Stewart Copeland, which he replied was EPIC. -

From MusicRadar. Classic interview: Stewart Copeland on his Police career Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic: That had a very different story from all the others. Sting had spent some time in Montreal at Le Studio. Rush country. There’s a French Canadian pianist, Jean Roussel, a very enthusiastic and gifted musician and they did some songs. This was one of them. "That’s the other of two (songs) where somebody else plays on a Police album. We tried everything. We deviated from the demo to the extent it’s not a hit anymore. “I had an epiphany overnight. I come in to the studio and said, ‘F*ck it, just put on your demo and show me the changes and count me through!’ "One take, one morning, and that was it. That’s the drum track. Sting was standing over me, grumpily conducting me through it, which is how I made all the changes. Quite a complex song with a lot of different pieces. I was angry at the time, which is where a lot of the energy of the performance comes from.” Wrapped Around Your Finger: “I thought that lyrically, this track really took itself too seriously. The teacher and the student becoming the master. It was all a little bit artsy. It would have made a great Rush track! (laughs) I say that with love in my heart for Rush and Sting!” -
