  1. QUOTE (The Mighty Dudad @ Sep 10 2012, 11:51 AM)
I swore...SWORE...that since I had tickets for the Chicago show, a mere 8 days after the Manchester opener, that I would stay spoiler free and experience the show on 9/15 with virgin ears and eyes.

That lasted until about 8:30 PM Friday night when I inexplicably and uncontrollably found myself drawn to TRF and the inevitable "live as it happens" update thread.

"Ok," I told myself, "you f'd that one up and now you know the set list. Ok, but at least you still don't know what the show will look like...the stage setup, the lighting rig, etc. At least that will still be something new for you on the 15th!"

And it would have been too...if I hadn't actively sought out all of the various uploaded pictures on Saturday...

So then I tell myself, "Knowing the set list? ok. Having an idea of the visuals? ok. But at least you don't know what it really looks, sounds, and feels like. A list of songs titles and bunch of pictures can't spoil that part for you!"

... eh.gif ...just finished checking out all of the YouTube uploads from Manchester...

    b_sigh.gif

So now I am as "spoiled" as one can be. But you know what?? Chicago is still going to f'ing ROCK!

  2. QUOTE (mazyyz @ Sep 7 2012, 08:23 PM)

After the CA debut, it all goes south.

    1. Why re-introduce another PW track when you clearly represented the album in the first set?

    2. Why clog up the setlist with a 3rd drum solo?  Neil we know you can play drums, but...c'mon!

    3. Why plug in another 80's tune with Red Sector A?  This was the perfect opportunity to thrown in a throwback shocker like Jacob's Ladder, A Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres (prelude), or take your pick.

    4. Working Man again?  Really?  Need I say more?

    Encore

I know Tom Sawyer and TSOR have to be represented.  But back to back?  To open the encore with one of the throwback shockers I mentioned above would have saved that second half of the second set.  Plus they've always had three songs in the encore, why they scaled down to two is up for question.  I'm sure age and stamina have something to do with it.

Overall I give the setlist an 8 out of 10 simply because the first set and the first half of the second set are worthy.  As some have pointed out, maybe they will be alternating songs, or perhaps change it up when they supposedly hit their second leg.  After all these years, I'm just appreciative Rush gives me the opportunity to be able to voice my opinion on such matters.

Good points, all well taken except number 4:

    Yes --------- Really ---------- No

  3. Gosh, why'd you have to bring up this topic? Making me miss LOST so very much.

Well, it's obvious that Owen Hardy is straight-up Jack Shepherd, no doubt about that, and I get a sense of the Watchmaker in John Locke. And Ben Linus IS the Anarchist, for sure.

  4. Good luck to all those trying to quit. Tomorrow is my 6 month anniversary of not smoking. That's the longest I've gone without in nearly 40 years! And this time feels really different than the times I tried to quit before; I feel confident that it will be permanent because I learned of a technique (on the Led Zep forum of all places, LOL) that works for me. I haven't seen it mentioned in this thread so would like to share with you all. ------

It's called EasyWay by Allen Carr. Sorry I don't have the link to their website at hand, try a google search. There are 3 ways to get their program -- a seminar held in a few major cities, his book (which I found online in PDF form for free!) and through their webcast which is what I did because I wanted to stop smoking immediately. It's just a talk/cognitive behavior therapy but something about it works like none of the other treatments ever had, it's miraculous really.

It was the best thing I have EVER done. Sure, I've gained some weight but figure I can try to get that off slowly with more exercise (which I now LOVE to do for the first time in my life) and change in diet.

And congrats to all you EX-smoking Rush fans!!!

Yep!  Driving up from Redmond, WA the day before just in case there happens to be a verrrrry long wait at the border.  tongue.gif  Where is your seat?

My son and I are coming up from Renton. Is there expected to be a long border wait on Thursday? We were planning on leaving in the morning. Maybe we should get an early start.

No, I don't think we need to worry. I looked on a transportation website and they show a minimum/10 minute wait for all week at the Blaine crossing.

This isn't for Literatii. With money no object, you'll be fine.

For the rest of you, please consider the Tropicana. I know, they have that bad reputation from the past. But they have remodeled the whole place and it's really great now! I stayed there last year and was very pleased. The rooms were beautifully redone, the casino was nice, the restaurants were great, the pool was hoppin' and the price was very good. Plus it's right on the strip, across the street from the concert and around the corner from the airport. It's a no brainer to me. Monte Carlo is ok but the rooms are not as nice and that new city center cramps it's style. That's my 2 cents. trink39.gif

Thanks for the input Weatherman, I'll check it out.

  9. I stayed at the MGM last year and it was bad enough to make me want to get a room someplace else -- make that ANYPLACE else -- this year. You have the longest hike to even get to your room and there aren't any vending machines anywhere in sight. Guess they want you to make the long trek back downstairs to the casino. rage.gif So I'm thinking about staying at the Monte Carlo this time, it can't be that much farther to walk, especially if there is an alternate/outside entrance to the MGM Grand Arena.

I saw the T4E tour at The Gorge back in '97 and it was spectacular. We only had lawn seats but I remember the sound being good and I always prefer outdoor venues when I can get them. My friends and I camped out for the evening and the fact that it was in the middle of nowhere didn't bother me since it was on the way back to Idaho from Seattle. The campground was a huge Rush party all night long so I wouldn't recommend it if you have small children or are just looking to sleep. I had a great time just wandering around with a few beers and eventually stumbled on a bongo drum session with people taking turns and when I got there a guy was singing the Fountain of Lamneth. Not something I ever expected to see but awesome regardless.

Mental images like this make me wish I were 21 again. cool10.gif

BTW, when we're looking for each other at the gorge show, I'll be the tall brunette a few rows in back of you. Can't miss me as I'm sure I'll be carrying a barf bag and convulsing wildly. Betcha can't wait to say hi.

Mental images like this make me glad I'm not 21 again. 062802puke_prv.gif

  11. new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif WTG spok! I'm considering this gig, wasn't overly thrilled with the selections offered in today's presale so will keep checking to see if something spectacular shows up in the general ticket sales, on craigslist, etc. It would have to be up front REALLY close to the stage to make it worth the stress & anxiety of driving the 3-4 hours by myself. (Something I could have easily done back in the day but not so much now that I'm a "older" member like you.)

It's hard to see those tiny numbers but from what I can tell it looks like all floor rows are numbered from left to right (on this floor plan).

I gave up on the first 20 seats Ticketmaster selected as "best available" until I found the ideal one -- Section 15, Row C, Seat 1. common001.gif Watch out Alex, I'll be within bra-throwing distance, LOL!! just kidding of course tongue.gif

WOOHOOOOO!!! Can't wait and I hope to meet up with all you fellow Rushies sometime during the weekend.

  13. Another Signals here bekloppt.gif

This was a fun quiz, it has those lame Facebook apps beat by a mile. It should be mandatory for all Rush fans and then at the next concert we get seated by group and see which "album" is the rowdiest. laugh.gif Signals gets front right!

  14. Sorry to hear you're having these health problems Rushchick. But you have a real positive attitude about it and that will get you through it (as it does all of life's troubles). Hope you find the cause and get better soon.
