  1. Yeah. The Petty thing has made it clear to me that classic rock is indeed in its death throws. It was a good run, though! Yeah the last 5 years has really been nail after nail in the classic rock coffin.. Off the top of my head.. Bowie Prince Allman Cornell Jon lord Wakeman Lemmy Becker And now petty .. I think I'm even missing a few :( Edited to add.. Glen Frey Greg lake Chris squire George micheal Leonard Cohen
  2. Journey Schon and Steve Smith are monster players who wrote music for cheerleaders and soccer moms
  3. His interview with Hagar was pretty good. They went into some specifics about eddies behavior and Hagar talked about all the chiks he smashed on the f**k tour.. said his dick stopped working after a while cause he was so worn out.
  4. Just saw this. One of my favorite bands of all time. RIP Mr Becker.
  5. One of the greatest interviews of all time http://www.avclub.com/article/jerry-lewis-has-no-time-bullshit-interview-questio-247667
  6. He mentions Tool and Meshugga as a few modern seen bands he enjoys that dabble in prog influence. Both those bands are more self indulgent and pretentious than Rush and Yes combined.
  7. Nope. Classic. It's a textbook example of how to create dynamics and build up to that final bombastic ending. Perfect.
  8. William Smith would annihilate all 3 of those guys at the same time. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_OdEbKPxY-O4/TNbXJJIAAWI/AAAAAAAAIKk/eHplww3PQLA/s1600/vlcsnap-2010-09-24-18h27m19s77.jpg Truly the most Intersting man in the world.. check out his accomplishments..bad ass https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Smith_(actor)
  9. I think Gene's ego may have embellished what actually happened. A tinge of truth on steroids. Just got done listening to Eddie Trunk interviewing Noel monk, Van Halen manager from 78-85. He's promoting his new book on the band..I need to pick it up soon. Great from what I hear..anyway.. Trunk asked him about the Eddie joining kiss story and he knew nothing about it..said it never crossed his desk.. who knows? I'm sure a lot of stuff was done in secrecy, knowing those guys.
  10. I'm not ok with either Cornell's or Chester's ending, but it seems that Cornell's was a build-up of frustration mixed with the effects from his meds. Chester's was not only a copycat of Chris', but he did it on Chris' birthday which is a dick move in my book. Like he wants to ride Chris's coattails. In case you aren't aware, Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington were extremely close friends. Chesters band mates did report that after he got the news that Chris had committed suicide, something inside him just snapped....it truly is an awful situation :( I'm still in utter disbelief at the amount of hate Chester is getting on Facebook. I even saw a post that f***ing said that they were glad he killed himself. f**k people. Seriously. I was aware they were friends. And no, I'm not glad he killed himself and anyone that says they are assholes. I guess what bothers me is that Chris's was a spur of the moment thing and Chester had time to think, and actually plan it. If he had the time to think about it, it's really disappointing that he still came to his final conclusion. It's one thing if your life is utter shit and you don't have friends and family support. It's another when you have all the means and support available to help and you make the worst choice. How the hell do you know what either of these men were thinking? You're out of line. The best anyone can do after these type of tragedies is hope the best for the families.
  11. Your problem is you think music is the whole point. Well, I do think music has a play in this. Artists tend to be wired differently than your average every day Joe. That's what makes them so special. The singer from killswitch engage talks about it. "Mental illness is rampant in the artistic community" http://www.blabbermo...y-of-his-death/ Agreed. Many musicians suffer from mental disorders. Most humans do I believe. Even STING is bi-polar. Look at our beloved Mr. Peart. One of the most influential rock drummers ever. And a little bit of a weird, introverted dude. Coincidence? Nope.

  13. Very sad. I wasn't a fan of them, but I did enjoy a few tunes, and they had quite a following. RIP
  14. This album is their best sounding album even if stained class might be better. The guitars and vocals maybe, but I could never stomach the drumming of Dave Holland.
  15. It's a solid album. But it doesn't come close to their 70s output. I think it's their last great album.
  16. IT, sorry for your loss. Sounds like he was quite a special guy. The accolades from other musicians speaks volumes.
  17. Hold your Fire is , to me, the last of the great albums, starting with Fly by Night. After that, they started getting a bit spotty.
  18. Bassist was killed. I can't imagine how terrifying this must have been. http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/florida-police-identifies-adrenaline-mob-members-involved-in-deadly-crash-and-describes-their-injuries/
  19. Culturally, rock music isn't what it was. As someone else said, there are so many options now to occupy our time.
  20. Angel Dust is one of the best albums of that era. I guess I can see how it would have influenced nu metal.. but it's a straight up wierd mix of metal, punk, funk and everything in between. Is this nu metal? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9n3TrvhsrYs
  21. http://iruntheinternet.com/lulzdump/images/elton-john-donald-duck-costume-dolan-is-actually-1393797167x.jpg?id= Drug induced ;)
  22. Elton was the more eclectic artist. Billy was much poppier. Not a bad thing, but I just find Elton to be an overall better songwriter and composer. His playing seems more mature. Billy Joel comes across as goofy and nerdy at times. Eltons seventies output is the benchmark for solo keyboard guys.
