  1. Yup. Same here. These biopics tell me nothing I don’t already know, and the music sequences are typically dreadful to watch.
  2. One of those actors you just grew up with. Great presence. My mom was a big fan. RIP
  3. yeah he played the dick sheriff to perfection in rambo. imo the best stallone film. may he RIP Yeah he was dead on, every line delivered perfectly. One of my favorite Dennehy deliveries in First Blood was "People start f***in' around with the law and all hell breaks loose." And then there was that whole scene in the car when he and Rambo first meet. Dennehy was also good in the tv movie "The Jericho Mile." That was the first time I saw him. I think that was a couple of years before I saw First Blood at the cinema. There's a Dennehy line near the end that always makes me burst out laughing it's so good. It's not much of a line really it's just the timing of it is perfect in the scene. It's right at the end of this bit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-rBmFBDLa4 What part? When he drops his head to the floor when he's already lying there? It's just "COME ON YOU CRAZY SON OF A BITCH!" I see. Love this whole exchange: http://youtu.be/gNOrPXvnIg4 Yeah. Dennehy does such a good job you could quote almost any line. How about that line he barks to Caruso after Gault dies falling out of the copter? Something like, "We were friends when your mother was still wiping your nose! But he's dead now. He's dead because of that psycho out there!" Love that scene
  4. Much like Eddie Van Halen, Clapton inspired many to pick up the guitar, and his name is synonymous with rock guitar playing , even though his output has been a bit spotty over the years. Yeah there are guys all over YouTube who can ape their style, but they do that because of the inspiration they gave them. I enjoy his work with cream and some of his 70s stuff. His place is secure in the history of guitar, even though I prefer a gary Moore type blues to Clapton.

    Changing

Show don’t tell popped up on my Spotify the other night and it’s an incredible song. Presto as a whole isn’t as bad as I’ve thought
  6. Her kick work seems a bit busier than Neil's, which I like in this case. Here's Peart's track, isolated. http://youtu.be/S-BEhgwVOvY Incredible. Nobody should smile playing Tom Sawyer. Neil always made it look harder. I saw this recently. She butchers certain sections of it.
  7. That was a great interview. You could tell he was diggin the questions. The conversation flowed. Good job!
  8. Just finished it yesterday. Love the show. This is one of those streaming shows everyone should be talking about. I saw there's new episodes. Yup just started in the newest new episodes last night. Love this show. Justin Bateman certainly has made some great career decisions.
  9. Check out Malcom dome( VH manager from 78-85) book.. the brothers and Roth were lunatics
  10. I’m going to put on Fair Warning as soon as the album I’m listening to is done. I consider that album to be VH’s apex, and I haven’t listened to it in ages. But as great as I know Eddie is, I still can’t say that I prefer him to Alex. Eddie was like a mad scientist driving a hot rod on an open road.. he was fearless and just went for it..Alex was more composed and studied in his approach. For straight up hard rock riffage and balls to the wall playing, Eddie wins, but I still believe Alex to be the overall more interesting and versatile player
  11. I totally agree with you on "Balance." Don’t tell me what love can do, feelin and the twister soundtrack tune humans being are darkish tunes for VH, and I liked that direction they were going in, but that was the end for Sammy
  12. That’s a great point. I think eddie achieved that somewhat when Hagar joined, and it was a part of why they wanted Roth out. He was able to write tunes like dreams, right now and mine all mine.. keyboard based tunes with a bit more pop sophistication.. I’ve always felt that eddie wishes he could have played in a band like rush..I wonder if he heard subdivisions and thought damn, why can’t I write that type of stuff?
  13. SAME! Great tune. Eddies nasty rythm playing is on full display.
  14. Van Halen Fair Warning Woman and children first 1984 VH 2 Diver Down A different kind of truth 5150 Balance f**k OU812 VH 3 I think Balance is underrated.. it has a dark vibe to it
  15. Billy Gibbons band 'The Moving Sidewalks' opened for Jimi Hendrix noted here. Jimmy Vaughan's band 'The Chessman' opened for Jimi Hendrix as well noted here. Two legendary Texas guitar slingers opening for Hendrix is pretty mind-blowing. I saw both Jimmy and Billy play together - with Michael Anthony on bass - about 12 years ago. Great ZZ Top documentary on Netflix by the same guys who did beyond the lighted stage.
  16. The nagging problem with stating that Guitarist A is better than Guitarist B? Proving it. True dat. Only people who are quite adept at playing can really say what's better or not. Fans, or even the casual player probably wouldn't realize how hard or easy certain types of playing can be. I say it's still subjective. If you ask John Petrucci, who can pretty much play anything at all, if he's the best guitarist in the world, I'm gonna bet he'd say no. He'd probably point to guys who have never played half the crazy licks and sweeps and all sorts of things that Petrucci has and he'd say their definitely better than him. I don't think that all comes down to wanting to remain humble. Jimi Hendrix said Terry Kath was better than him, and Terry probably thought Jimi was better anyway. If there were an objective way to determine who's better at playing an instrument, I think we'd have all figured it out by now. It has to come down to taste and influence at the end of the day. Whoever you like the best and has had the most influence on you as a player or a listener, that's probably who you're going to choose. So true. I have enjoyed both eddie and Alex. Depending on my mood, they each fill a musical role for me. I couldn’t see Alex writing a riff like the opening in I’m the one just as I couldn’t see eddie playing all 18 minutes of Hemispheres. Their approach to music is very different.
  17. I think subtlety and restraint are the biggest differences. Eddie played on 11 at all times.. Alex knew how to dial it back
  18. Better at what though? Eddie freely admits he can’t finger pick, so no way he could play a broons bane. Wait...what?!? An interview from 1980 in guitar player magazine he stated he couldn’t finger pick or play in that classical style GP: Do you ever use your other fingers to pick? EVH: No. I can’t fingerpick for anything. I’ve never had the time. http://www.themightyvanhalen.net/1980/04/01/1980-interview-eddie-van-halen-w-jas-obrecht/ Well, that interview was 40 years ago and Eddie was still young. It's very possible he learned how to do that as the years went by. True. I’ve seen him use his fingerpicking style over the years, but not in a classical guitar type style.

  20. Better at what though? Eddie freely admits he can’t finger pick, so no way he could play a broons bane.. his style was a lot of “ tricks” .. he obviously was a pioneer, but I just don’t hear a lot of diversity in his playing. I think Alex was far more diverse and adaptable. Eddie wrote better party rock anthems, but I just can’t see him writing a Hemispheres
  21. Yeah I can’t see eddie playing on albums like Pw or GUP.. Alex knew how to adapt
  22. Flashy and innovative.. Van Halen Overall better musicianship and diverse.. Lifeson I would say eddie was more technical , but Alex could turn on the jets if called upon 1:48 to 2:00
  23. Met Tommy victor from prong after a show.. my friend was interviewing him for his online site.. they covered a kiss tune during the set.. in all the excitement of the show, I forgot what tune it was, asked Tommy politely what was the kiss tune you covered again? And he barked at me that everyone knows that song!! Guy was an uptight asshole
  24. This is the type of stuff I see a lot of..it reminds me of the guitar shred stuff from the 80s.. cool.. is this stuff applicable to a song? https://www.facebook.com/147910631975223/posts/2476794999086763/?vh=e&d=n
