  1. better call saul is a brilliant show. it's not as splashy and sexy as breaking bad but it's deeper, more thoughtful and an amazing character study.
  2. why the f**k do you care whether they "officially" retire or not? don't be such an entitled prick, if they want to continue working, who are you to tell them not to? if they do continue and you don't like what they do, go the f**k away and remember them "as they were" all you want, but let them make their own choices about whether or not they want to continue to do what they've been doing all their lives.
  3. why is this an accomplishment? it's like, hey, you have nothing better to do with your time than make 500 posts a day on a message board? yay, well done.
  4. all i know about this band is that every time they come on the radio my wife starts yelling CHANGE IT CHANGE IT CHANGE IT like beavis!
  5. That will never happen. They'd lose money. Well, that and the fact that Neil will NEVER play live again. lol OK, I understand that about Neil. I don't understand the losing money part. How did the Allman Brothers do their residencies at the Beacon Theatre for more than 20 years if that type of arrangement loses money? Billy Joel has been doing once a month shows at Madison Square Garden that continue all through this year. I'm not being snarky, I just don't understand the finances. Are you saying the production values of a Rush show are pretty pricey and it takes many, many tour dates (not just a week) to pay for the show? The 1st part. While I do not know the exact details of the Allman Brothers specific contract, it probably is a set dollar amount. We as fans think the artist is getting the gross amount. On an extended stay that is rarely the case. The artist usually gets a promised amount from the venue in exchange for a certain number of shows. So in this case the Beacon sits 2800, and if the Allmans play 5 nights they may get a set amount of say $500,000. Now that is without a single ticket being sold. Beacon can turn around with Citi and sell 2800x$100 for $280,000 times 5 shows for $1,400,000. This way both win. It's No difference then telling a band at your bar, we'll pay you $400 for each night + free booze. If the bar is charging a $20 cover and no one shows up, the band still gets paid..if 1000 people show up over 2 days, the bar wins. Santana and Billy Idol have deals in place for 15 shows a year at House of Blues in Vegas. That place only sits 700. No way they make money without getting a Set dollar amount for each show. The casino wants bodies 'In the building' and they will get it. All true. However, I don't think Rush has the diverse fan base required for an "extended stay" like that to be successful for the venue. So, that won't happen. Well, that and the fact the Neil will NEVER play live with Rush again. :D why are you so dang happy about that? are you neil?
  6. i don't think the production is the problem with gup, i think the songs just aren't very strong. i love the choruses to distant early warning but those verses especially the 'red alert red alert' crap really ruin the song for me.
  7. roadshow is the only book of neil's that has anything interesting about rush in it. traveling music is of some interest to learn about neil's early influences and experiences as a musician. the rest of them barely deal with music at all, except for neil generously quoting his own lyrics and interviews. i enjoyed chemistry the most of the books about rush, because it had the most information about the recording of the actual albums in it. none of the books about rush are particularly fantastic, but any book about rush is kind of fun to read if you like reading about rush!
  8. Doubt it... :) he missed the return of the prodigal narps!
  9. That's wonderful!          Your wife is creative and talented. thanks! she's usually my answer to the question of this thread
  10. this parody my wife wrote about...well, somebody's health challenges! There is unrest in the tummy There is trouble in the guts Because my colon isn't working And it really drives me nuts The trouble with my colon Is that it doesn’t quite work right So my bowels have stopped moving And there's shit stuck in there tight! And the chia seeds aren’t helping Though I did in fact hydrate And I wonder if this misery Is an inescapable fate There is trouble in the colon And my good temper has fled As the cramps twist up my insides And an enema I dread So I took some Milk-Magnesia and it loosened things up right Now I’m shaky and I’m queasy And my face is greyish-white! Now there’s no more constipation For now I have the runs And I know now my guts just won’t Let me have any fun!
  11. since when is hemispheres considered to be rush's best album? i thought the general opinion was that it was moving pictures. neither is my favorite, that title goes to clockwork angels!
  12. go look at the gush thread, there are rush fans in there!
  13. the anarchist, what a song that guitar sounds like the noises in my head
  14. you asked me why i thought he was a terrible writer, i told you you can like his books all you want, that doesn't mean they're good writing!
  15. Shockingly bad? I'd love to see your work. Heaven forbid he has interests outside music. Ever notice that really bright people are interested in a lot of things? Being famous helps getting one's work noticed, but being famous for something else doesn't make your work less worthy. And no, I'm not a fanboi. I couldn't give a flying f**k what he is interested in...I think his writing stinks and am perfectly at liberty to say so. I find it tediously boring and stilted and this has nothing to do with him being a member of Rush. Also, I'm not trying to sell my work in the public arena, so my writing skills are a moot point. I'm not interested either whether you are a fanboi or not...knock yourself out. You're missing the point. Many people ARE interested in his adventures and hobbies, and because he's famous and has some money it's easier to make one's work available. Good for him. That's the way it is. The point I was making is he wouldn't be selling any books at all if he wasn't the drummer from RUSH. The publishers know a lot of his fans will buy his stuff therefore he gets a contract. this is exactly right. he's a f***ing terrible writer and absolutely no one would pay for his writing if he wasn't the drummer of rush. "Terrible"? That's ridiculous, and if you really believe that, tell us why. I'm curious. As for his work being published, the world isn't fair. People get jobs, for example, simply because of where they went to school or their last name, not necessarily at all based on knowledge or merit or work ethic. he's repetitive. he harps on his tastes and his pet peeves and keeps writing the same things over and over again with no new insight. he quotes his own works constantly, which is TERRIBLE form. he gathers together letters he wrote to friends and treats them as if they're meaningful prose for a wider audience instead of using them as source material to write a true narrative. UGH.

  17. it will be interesting to see if he says anything meaningful or if he does his usual "tell you enough to pique your interest but not enough to give you any insight" thing. He probably won't tell us a whole lot only because he's saving it for his book. he never tells us anything in the books either. except that he likes macallan and rocks and flowers and trees and bmws, and that he and mosbach like pretend to be gay even though they aren't.

  19. he's boring as hell when he's not being offensive!
  20. onstage, wow. on the one hand he died doing what he loved! on the other, that's a heck of a way to ruin a gig!
  21. i put the three 21st century rush albums up there with the band's best work.
