  1. In case anyone here doesn't know, The Ozrics' home in Colorado fell victim to the wildfires this summer. They lost most of everything, including equipment and master tapes. Google search for the Ozrics forum for more info about helping them get through this rough time.
  2. On the VT tour they swapped a couple songs in and out every other night. I am thinking Ceiling Unlimited and The Trees were two of the songs, and I think there were more.
  3. I think Cut to the Chase might make it this time around. Isn't it usually one of the more requested songs each tour?
  4. QUOTE (Khan @ Jul 13 2012, 09:22 AM) That's an awful expensive Frisbee... That's why I am selling it :-)
  5. With 2 days left, mine is at $200. Not a bad $20 investment.
  6. QUOTE (D3strukt @ Jul 11 2012, 07:13 PM) God damn it. No Buy It Now option. It did have one, but as soon as someone bid on it it went away. I had it priced at $125. But now I'm kinda glad no one took it at that price. I think it might go for close to $200. No bad considering I bought it for $20.
  7. Shameless plugging--I'm selling my copy of Vapor Trails on vinyl lp, so please take a look! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rush-Vapor-Trails-...=item2a1ff2894d
  8. QUOTE (Storm Shadow @ Jun 20 2012, 10:52 AM) QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Jun 20 2012, 10:43 AM) QUOTE (losingit2k @ Jun 20 2012, 10:41 AM) I feel they should only use strings for songs that have strings already on them. Leave the other songs in tact. If they do this, then I'd be 100% behind it. Completely with you on this. Agreed. My biggest concern is that once they start preparing to work with the string section they'll over-do it and start using it on more and more tracks.
  9. I don't know why we need 3 threads for this or need to email Roadrunner. I told everyone multiple times that it was the same as listening to the cd.
  10. QUOTE (Cygnus The God Of Balance @ Jun 19 2012, 09:05 PM) I would like to hear Xanadu with an orchestra. I think that would be cool. I will be into hearing them with strings. NOOOO that's my nightmare scenario. Blasphemy!
  11. QUOTE (Storm Shadow @ Jun 19 2012, 01:25 PM) I'm just now listening to my vinyl copy. It sounds considerably better! One slight annoyance.....I don't know where Roadrunner gets their vinyl pressed, but man, this thing came full of fingerprints and shit (not literal shit, but you know what I mean). I didn't notice until it skipped on the title track and I looked closer. Sounds good otherwise though. So did my copy.
  12. QUOTE (Lost In Xanadu @ Jun 19 2012, 11:28 AM) Close your eyes, free your mind Imagine if you will.... TSOR, Limelight, Tom Sawyer with an orchestra... did anyone else just puke a little? I can take the CA songs, Losing It, Manhattan Project, and even Jacob's Ladder... but it better not be the whole damn show. Exactly. It's not like 95% of their catalog screams orchestral music. They're mostly a hard rock band. In regards to paying them the whole tour, no wonder the ticket prices are so expensive!
  13. QUOTE (Lost In Xanadu @ Jun 19 2012, 10:00 AM) QUOTE (Mara @ Jun 19 2012, 08:59 AM) Oh great. So that means they'll probably be playing "The Garden", and I will be crying my eyes out in front of everyone. But I'll handle it. I think it will turn a lot of Rush fans off, but I am not too worried. My buddy, my brother and I are three of them. I'm gonna wait to see the setlist and how the orchestra is used. If it's for the relevent CwA stuff and a few oldies, then that's fine. But if it is for the entire show then I'm not spending $150 to see that. Just not my cup of tea and the whole thing screams dinosaur to me. I'm sure plenty people here will enjoy it and it will be interesting for sure, but that's a lot of money to spend on something that I'm not overly keen on.
  14. Let's also keep in mind all the stuff Alex said before the Time Machine tour that led to everyone getting butthurt over the actual setlist.
  15. QUOTE (ThinkingBig @ Jun 18 2012, 11:49 AM) QUOTE (WCFIELDS @ Jun 17 2012, 06:52 PM)QUOTE (-D-RocK- @ Jun 17 2012, 05:00 PM) The OP needs to clean out his/her ears or get some decent speakers. CA sounds amazing. End of discussion. Before you slam people.....our resident Audio experts have some opinions in another thread about the mix/production......it may sound good to you, but others have expressed some issues with it.. Real audio experts are too busy working to post on fan forums. Resident 'experts' use the anonymous internet to validate their lives and feel important. The album rocks. Period. It's exactly how RUSH wanted it, and to question RUSH's judgement, you better be in YES or GENESIS or FLOYD. You better having something more than "I own some software and I know how to use it." BFD, dude. Big Farking Deal. Your opinion, educated or otherwise is just an opinion, personal taste, a subjective POV. Owning software and equipment does not put you on the same level as RUSH and therefore questioning the 'mix' is just people trying to sound important. CA is their best work since Signals. IMO. the guitar rocks. the bass rocks. and the drums are amazing. IMO Actually, real audio engineers do have time to post on the Steve Hoffman forums (hosted by Steve Hoffman, mastering engineer). Something tells me you couldn't take the criticism this album is getting over there in regards to its sound production. No need to be belligerent to those who disagree with you on how the album sounds.
  16. QUOTE (Ged Lent's sis @ Jun 18 2012, 10:48 AM) QUOTE (ThinkingBig @ Jun 12 2012, 07:20 PM)Good God, the audiophiles with the golden ear who all know better than the professionals that RUSH hires. "why don't they hire me??" Enough with the "I know better than working industry professionals" crap. You don't. "Working industry professionals" is not some monolith which abide by the same quality standards. Albums do get ruined. And sometimes bands get screwed by their labels. Glittering prizes and endless compromises much? So you like the sound. Great. A lot of people don't. You can take pleasure in the fact that many of we awful and inconsiderate people who dare to criticize an aspect of the "industry" are not taking as much pleasure in the sound as you are. Crank it to 11, dude! Unfortunately I cannot. It's not personal. ------- I came on the forum today to start a thread asking about CA's sound and found this one. Confirms what I thought: It sounds pretty bad to more than just a few Rush fans. It's a shame really. I mean, why put strings on it if they cannot even breathe? I don't who is responsible for it, but I think that's him over there? >>> Nick Rasculinecz is responsible. He mixed and produced the album. It's not the mastering, even though that could be better too, but it's not brickwalled so my guess is that the originally recorded tracks were treated with all sorts of limiting and compression (especially the drums) before being mixed to stereo. Nick even had an interview last month where he talked about how raw it sounded and how he hopes Rush fans can get past looking at waveforms and commenting on how compressed it is for the sake of the music. He knew what he was doing and started defending it before the album already came out.
  17. It's his best in a while, although the sound quality makes it tough to clearly hear exactly what he's doing sometimes. Too bad the drums don't sound like they did on MP.
  18. QUOTE (robertrobyn @ Jun 18 2012, 08:47 AM) QUOTE (Ghostnotes @ Jun 17 2012, 10:16 PM) Not 96/24 But sounds good. Thanks I thought it was supposed to be the 96/24 version. Bummer. Do you think it sounds better than the reg CD? NO it is the same thing as the cd.
  19. QUOTE (robertrobyn @ Jun 16 2012, 03:29 AM) So I bought the CA LP version tonight. It says it has a HD flac DL and a MP3 DL. Do you think the HD flac included is a 96/24? I'm pretty sure this has been mentioned all over, but no, the lp only comes with downloads in mp3 format and standard redbook lossless flac files.
  20. QUOTE (Dylan2712 @ Jun 15 2012, 02:46 PM) Not just headphones, but FLAT frequency response headphones. Most stereo systems and earbuds and yes even the cheap (less than $100) cans have a high frequency roll off and/or bass boost. The reasoning behind this is because most people cannot hear past 16khz (or lower) after they turn twenty, and casual music fans love bass. I listened on my AKG Q701's and i didn't think anything was muddy at all, it was crisp and clear. but through my shitty car stereo system, the "Big steel wheels" part of Headlong flight was very very bassy. -something that was not a problem on flat headphones. whats the frequency response of your headphones? i recommend this website: http://www.headphone.com/ also, just because you have high end speakers, doesn't mean the room you listen to it is equally as flat or treated. any room that has parallel walls that aren't treated are gonna have standing waves that cause frequency cancellation depending on where you are in the room. try standing in a corner when the previously mentioned part of Headlong Flight comes on and see how much bass there is then. For this reason I love my Audio Technica M50 cans. Here at work I have Monster iBeats (Dr Dre earbuds) and while being one of the better earbuds I've had they definitely give me fatigue at times, especially with louder mastered music.
  21. QUOTE (mandydog @ Jun 15 2012, 01:46 PM) QUOTE (marblesmike @ Jun 15 2012, 12:40 PM) QUOTE (mandydog @ Jun 15 2012, 01:39 PM) QUOTE (marblesmike @ Jun 15 2012, 12:34 PM) QUOTE (mandydog @ Jun 15 2012, 01:27 PM) QUOTE (marblesmike @ Jun 15 2012, 12:25 PM) QUOTE (mandydog @ Jun 15 2012, 01:21 PM) QUOTE (marblesmike @ Jun 15 2012, 10:53 AM) CD has a DR6 rating, as does the HDTracks version, so no less compression. The vinyl has a DR11 rating. Where are these ratings and what do they mean? The amount of dynamic range. Dynamic range is the amount of space between the loudest and softest parts of the music. To my ears, more dynamic range is better as it gives the music room to breathe and build up from quiet soft passages to booming loud ones instead of being mostly loud the whole time. Where did you get these ratings? And does this mean that the vinyl sounds twice as good as the cd? There's programs, such as Foobar, that can measure the DR in an audio file. It means there's less dynamic compression on the vinyl. According to some people here I'd be a troll if I told you that mean the vinyl sounded better, so it depends on how you like to hear your music. OK. So this program rates the CD files and the HD files as a 6 out of what? And the vinyl is an 11 out of what? It's not 6 or 11 out of anything. The higher the number the more dynamic range there is. So the dynamic range meter on this program has an infinite top end? I'm not being a smart ass, but I just don't understand this. What is the highest dr number for Rush albums you have tested? Or what is the highest number you have seen and what artist/album was that? Honestly I have not tested it on other Rush albums and I don't know what the highest rating could be. I used the DR tool to visually verify what my ears are telling me.
  22. I respectfully disagree. I've EQed it and listened on my headphones and its loudness gives me a headache/ear fatigue after 20 minutes...which is too bad because I really enjoy it. I should try listening with my cans rather than ear buds. That might be the issue!
