    Old Boy

AMAZING movie....one of the most original pieces of cinema ive seen.
  4. Great show! The music references were just awesome. You can get all the episodes on DVD.
  5. He's sort of becoming like Sandler in that its basically the same charachter in all his movies. Anchorman and Elf i think were both pretty original and funny. Old School i feel is a bit overrated.
  6. QUOTE (JohnnyBlaze @ Oct 22 2008, 06:25 AM) Over here in Japan nearly everyone I know believes in ghosts/spirits. And tons claim to have seen something. It truly is a part of the culture. Given that (since they'd think deeply on the subject), it's no surprise that they'd make some mindfucking horror flicks. Also, low budget is the way to make a scary movie. Hollywood has great special effects and all but then it seems it's more eye candy than horrifying That pretty much says it all. All the special effects in the world wont save a shitty story line. It's all in the mind!! Not the effects.
  7. How the hell did i not pick that up all these years... It's so obvious! Tripping over the bike pump...classic
  8. The definition of Legend. And cool. May you rest well Mr. Newman.

No. If i offended you with the " PLatoon" thread, i apologize. I am sensing some hostility. It was just an opinion on a movie. Thank you. You asked a question and he answered, without any comment. For the love of everything holy, quit being so damn sensitive. I also agree that the War movie theme has not been "overdone." In fact, I'd like to see more quality war movies made. I voted for Full Metal Jacket more on an "overall" basis. However, some movies are better for action, some are better for story, etc. If you would refer to the " Platoon" thread in question, for some reason he came across as quite pissed at me. And i'll act any way i feel is appropriate . It doesn't concern you. How many war movies have been made since the close of WW2?...I think we know the outcome. I explained to you earlier in the thread that I'm not pissed off at you, but I simply hate 'Platoon'. Please understand this and stop flogging yourself over it. If someone doesn't like something that you don't like it's OK. You can bet your last dollar that the reverse is true. Go back and look at the 'Platoon' thread and read what Ancient Ways said about 'The Green Berets'. Now his opinion of the movie and mine differ greatly, but I'm not taking it personally because the man is entitled to his opinion and I'm not hung up on it being the same as mine. Back to the 'Platoon' thing: I'm a veteran and I do a lot of volunteer work for the Troops. Movies that make my brothers and sisters in uniform look bad just piss me off, it's that simple. This will be the last time I explain this to you, it would be appreciated if you let the matter rest. Carry on. Serious miscommunication on this but i shall Carry on and leave it at that.
  10. QUOTE (Rushian King @ Sep 20 2008, 10:23 AM) QUOTE (Lamneth08 @ Sep 19 2008, 05:15 AM) How many war movies have been made since the close of WW2?...I think we know the outcome. Knowing the outcome of a real event has nothing to do with the making of movies. By that logic there's no need to make just about any movie. Why make a romantic comedy when you know the couple will get together at the end? Why make an action movie when you know the bad guys will die at the end? Why make a horror movie when you know the monster/ghost will kill everyone except for one person who escapes at the end?... IMO, the story lines tend to be quite similar in War movies. How many Wars can we tell a story about? They usually center around WWII or Vietnam. With Horror, Drama and Comedy , i feel you can be more creative. I think you are being very cliche with your outcomes. I have seen many Horror and comedies where the plot lines are quite twisted and not obvious in the least.

  13. I would go with The Deer Hunter and Apocalypse Now How about Saving Private Ryan?.. The first half of Full Metal Jacket is quite intense. Does anyone else feel that the whole " War movie" theme has been overdone?.. I have already seen some clips of upcoming Iraq war themed movies/shows and i feel its just a cash grab and nothing more. I'm pretty sure we know the horrors and results of war and its affect on society.
  14. QUOTE (Jack Aubrey @ Sep 17 2008, 06:58 PM) QUOTE (Ancient Ways @ Sep 17 2008, 07:43 PM) QUOTE (Jack Aubrey @ Sep 17 2008, 07:32 PM) God, I hate that movie! Really? I enjoyed. I have nothing to go on to consider if it is realistic or not but it was enjoyable as a movie. It was also before we realized that you had to be very careful with Stone's movies since he began to care more about espousing certain political viewpoints than entertaining. I think it's an insult to the brave men who served in Viet Nam. You can be opposed to the war all you want and that's fine, but depicting those men as a bunch of child-raping hooch burners disgusts me. The drug use during Vietnam was well known and the child-rape scene was just one piece of the film. I think it's a stretch to judge the whole movie based on that. It had both good characters and bad.
  15. I forgot how great this was Any fans? The characters come across as so believable ...no sugar coating the horrors of what must have gone on.
  16. QUOTE (JayGeeEmme @ Sep 10 2008, 09:18 AM) One of the best movies I've seen recently, is a South Korean monster pic called "The Host". Wonderfully acted and excellent special effects for a low budget. Pathos in all the right places too. Well worth watching the UK release trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJnq9sm4Zxk Looks quite interesting.... I am usually not big on the monster movie type stuff, but this looks like it could be something i'd enjoy
  17. QUOTE (mrbarlint @ Sep 9 2008, 08:48 PM) I thought this was a post about the horror movie "Them!" from 1954 about giant mutant killer ants in the desert after nuclear testing. Great flick, by the way. Another classic
  18. QUOTE (theredtamasrule @ Sep 9 2008, 08:38 PM) French horror? Someone break into their house and make them shower? No, seriously , its a great movie and actually the French have added a few cool flicks to the genre in recent years.. If you really want some disturbing stuff check out one called INSIDE.....another French
  19. Just picked this one up tonight. Heard good things about it, and it didn't disappoint. Home Invasion theme with some great action and suspense along with a few creepy moments. And a great ending. It only clocks in at 75 minutes , so not a lot of bullshit filler scenes. In and out. Does the job quick Check it out
  20. Dukes of Hazzard A-Team The Incredible Hulk My t.v diet circa 1980-84 The characters on The Dukes were just awesome and so entertaining. Daisy Duke made me realize what it's like to be a man...if you know what i mean I wont get into the details
  21. QUOTE (Storm Shadow @ Sep 9 2008, 05:47 PM) Audition. That movie goes from seemingly normal to OMFGWTF?!! in about a split-second. Man in bag....drink like cat...creepy How the hell they came up with that scene is beyond me
  22. QUOTE (Storm Shadow @ Sep 9 2008, 02:44 PM) Takashi Miike and Park Chan-wook are two of my favorite directors. Miike is especially twisted, I love him. Have you seen Miike's film Izo? It's not really horror, but it's a total mindfuck of a movie and my favorite from him. I'm not too fond of the more traditional ghost story movies though. You've seen one freaky little Asian ghost kid, you've seen them all. I've read about Izo. On my list. and yes....the creepy ghost kids can get old. I love the psychological aspect of the Asian stories. Just so different than most.
  23. Any fans of these?.. I own ... Ichi the Killer Oldboy Bloody Reunion Ju-On ( was remade as " The Grudge" over here).. Audition Versus Some unique story lines and plot twists
  24. That was the crazy drunk chik in " 40 Year Old Virgin", correct?
