  1. I hope the guys see this post. I'm sure your aren't the only one.
  2. For me I think half the songs they really weren't noticeable and probably didn't add alot, which might have been because I was listening to the boys. However, on at least 3 or 4 songs the strings were appropriate and really complimented the song. The strings on Wreckers and The Garden were a must.
  3. QUOTE (Don'tMeetInBars @ Oct 18 2012, 09:51 PM) It's cool to hear those songs with how Rush sounds NOW. No doubt, I almost wish they'd go back and record all their old albums with their late career sound. That's partially why their idea to get as much as possible as a live recording is so great.
  4. Yes I went back and listened to a remastered version of Power Windows and its a much stronger listen than I remember. I can't believe I've almost heard all of these played live at one time or another. Its all excellent in its own way.
  5. I've seen Rush 5 times over 4 different tours and 21 years apart. In 1991 for the Roll The Bones Tour I came away just in awe of the shear power that all 3 play with. Not one of them stood out they were each incredible. By far the loudest concert, and crowd I had ever seen. In 1996 for T4E I thought Geddy's base play was tremendous, I saw their 2nd show of the overall tour and they weren't quit in their groove. In 2008 for S&A I couldn't believe how incredible the whole band sounded, but Neil's work on the drums really stood out for me that tour. 10 days ago I saw them in Detroit and I thought Alex's over play was absolutely brilliant, its the best I've heard him sound. His work on Analog Kid was just awe inspiring, but every one of his solo's was nearly perfect including pretty much nailing all of the Clockwork Angels songs as if it were played right off the album. He's just really playing well. PS I've now seen Rush in 3 different cities and 4 different venues I am now convinced they turn the volume WAY up when they visit Detroit 'Rock City'.
  6. I think Far Cry ends the set because its a nice tie to the new material in the 2nd set. Sort of a this is what we did before, and here is what we just did. I didn't mind hearing Far Cry again, I think its a modern Rush classic. I agree it doesn't quite fit with the first set material. But again I'll say it, the guys are 60, we are all so lucky they are still around and still sounding so great and still making new stuff. Its just a pleasure.
  7. I might be weird but I always thought parts of Virtuality would make a great instrumental. Also, I would go see Rush if they played all Barney songs.
  8. They are 60 and still touring and still sounding great. We should just be thankful for that. You know what pains me, that in 20 years there won't be a rush tour where I'll be disappointed they didn't play anything off Clockwork Angels.
  9. The Weapon is one from the vault I'd like to hear live. If we pick classics that aren't being played I always like Limelight or Freewill
  10. QUOTE (dakota2112 @ Sep 19 2012, 11:09 AM) Everyone complaining about Wish Them Well... they played this at Indy, and it ROCKED. I suspect I'll get Seven Cities tomorrow at Columbus. Good song, but to be honest, I'd love hearing WTW again. That's how good it was. To each their own I agree Wish Them Well was surprisingly good live, but I would love to have heard 7 cities just because I think its a great song.
  11. QUOTE (sundog @ Sep 19 2012, 06:32 AM) ***Title need to be updated with ****SPOILERS**** I was at this show last night, but there are some still waiting to be surprised at their 1st show of this tour.... Just remember to be respectful. ~carry on.... The whole "On The Lighted Stage" section is designated as *spoiler* so I don't why its necessary to be redundant. I think its kind of expected. A few hours later, still letting it sink in. Still feel blessed just to still be hearing new Rush music and see them performing so well this late in their careers. How the heck do three guys make such loud, flawless noise.
  12. QUOTE (LedRush @ Sep 19 2012, 12:31 AM) Any changes to the modified B list? Using the RIAB list here: http://www.rushisaband.com/blog/2012/09/12...-setlist-update They replaced Seven Cities with Carnies. Which I loved by the way, though I would also have loved to hear Seven Cities.
  13. They curtained off the upper level of The Palace in Detroit save for the first 6 or 7 rows. Moved people down to the lower level. Some empty spaces in the back of the house, but it was a pretty nice crowd for a Tuesday night in an area struggling. I bet it was over 10,000. Most notably most of the suites looked vacant, floor and sides looked full to me.
  14. Thirded. Its Rush, they are 60, it was awesome. I really didn't think I'd ever see them live again after S&A 2008. At least not playing that well. Dead wrong man. The set list might not be as strong as some would like, but its still great stuff. Some people I'm sure left the show wishing for more classics, and I'll be honest it could have used one or two in a couple spots just to keep the crowd engaged. Although the crowds reaction may depend on where you were sitting. From my seat in the back it was clear the people closest were enjoying the show immensely. As they always do. The first 4 songs drew great reactions, along with the classic Analog Kid. Otherwise the first set kind of petered out, as far as the crowd goes. Far Cry was well done, I loved it. Never thought I'd hear Force Ten or Big Money live again or Grand Designs, Territories and The Pass live ever. The Clockwork Angels stuff was just amazing live. Powerful, up-temo and they played it all about as perfect as you can live. I couldn't tell if people were bored during the CA part or if they were just mesmerized by how incredible it sounded. I'll go with mesmerized. Clockwork Angels, Anarchist, Carnies all drew great responses but Headlong Flight was nearly the biggest ovation of the night and it was incredible live. Just WOW. The strings really added something to that whole section of the show. Finishing the show with YYZ, Working Man, Tom Sawyer and 2112 was strong. But I honestly never thought I'd see a Rush show without Freewill or The Spirit of Radio. Only these guys can get away with that. Great night, made better by having our tickets upgraded from the upper level to midway in the lower bowl as The Palace tried to compress the crowd into a smaller area. Awesome show, would be glad to go again if I could.
  15. Faithless is a beautiful song when you really listen to it. From S&A, I'm a little surprised they didn't play We Hold On. But hey, they can't all be classics.
  16. QUOTE (farcryoverspilledmilk @ Jul 7 2010, 10:56 PM) ANOTHER REASON why I prefer and always will prefer ARENAS. I hate outdoor concerts. Heat, bugs, rain, wind, shitty sound...yuck. Give me arena's any day of the week. Saw them in Joe Louis Arena and the outdoor facility in Cincinnati they played last tour. The sound was much sharper outside IMO, the lighting was 100 times better in the Joe.
  17. "Rush will be around a very long time" They're in their late 50's, enjoy while you can.
  18. who cares what they play, they sound awesome
  19. 252. Intelligent symbollic artwork 253. playing drums through mysterious pigeon noises 254. professional musicianship 255. not being afraid to experiment
  20. So tough to answer, they each stand alone on their own for me. Hold Your Fire - because it was my first.
  21. 2112 There was a time in my life I knew this piece but had no idea who Rush were.
  22. Closer to the Heart when I want a quickie, Xanadu when I want to chill and relax.
  23. LaVilla I thought it was great they pulled Circumstances out of the "vault" for the new tour.
  24. Natural Science - but I never liked it much untill I heard it live, now I just appreciate how great this song was constructed. Sounds amazing live. Freewill and Spirit of Radio are right there for me too.
  25. Red Barchetta Honestly love every song from this one.
