  1. GG--wow! That is funny! They sure do come out with some doozies. And what an amazing discovery on his part...his sense of humor. perfect! And be prepared for a lifelong Thomas infatuation. I just called 3 Blockbusters looking for the new Thomas GREAT DISCOVERY, because my 13 year old just HAD to have it. RB--and a good call with your Tim! very cool, and very clever of him! Good luck with the new program...and thanks for the discovery for me! Perhaps I will look into that book too...can you tell me more about it? thanks
  2. yay! I could kick myself for missing it in theaters!
  3. QUOTE (Cygnus The God Of Balance @ Sep 11 2008, 01:02 PM) I can't even imagine going through this with any child, let alone Tony. To Infinity And Beyond All I can say is wow. I read it this morning...and I thought of you both. And when I gave myself a moment to pause, and put myself in the same place with my son...*shiver* Even thinking of it now...i cant imagine the terror. I just don't know how they survived.
  4. Thanks for sharing barney...that was sweet. I think its a fine, and beautiful picture. My son often finds himself in the company of younger kids. Always has...they are "safer" than his peers. Unfortunately, now he is a teenager, and he is torn between being friends with safer, younger children, and wanting to, but not knowing how to, be friends with kids his own age. We are having a really tough time...he said he wants to see the brain doctor because he isnt sure what is going on in his mind. Daniel knows he has a "different brain" and lately, puberty is giving all of his systems, brain included, a run for the money. Middle school has been hard, kids can be mean. He said today...we have Today, and Sunday and Monday, and then back to the nightmare. I sure do hope this year will be better than last!
  5. Neil was driving to the gig then he saw Geddy drinking milk from Alex's nipples. Neil threw up a pint of Macallan and puke splashed all over himself. Alex was shocked!

  9. QUOTE (GhostGirl @ Aug 25 2008, 01:16 PM) Yep, he's covering his ears. Thanks everyone! YAY STEPHEN!! Great job! and great job to you too GG...it takes a lot of patience to get through those haircuts. I STILL tip his barber extra each time we go.
  10. we just gotta hang in there sista momma.
  11. Disruptive Behavior Someone forwarded this to me. Some parents I know try to keep their autistic children close to them, they dont let them "be seen" in public so much. I'm not one of those parents, I usually go where I want to go and bring him with me. There are times its hard, and I know there will be a struggle between him and me, but I think its important he knows the world and the world knows him, because I wont always be there to run interference. After reading this article though...I quess it might make me think twice, and that maybe, maybe I'm pushing him too far into a world that doesnt want him. And that, makes me terribly sad.

  14. QUOTE (liquidcrystalcompass @ Aug 13 2008, 10:40 AM) You should probably look into doing that. I'm assuming that the older he gets the more that he'll want to explore. Oh boy...been there done that. I have a 13 year old son with autism. It doesnt necessarily get worse, it gets different. Just a few weeks ago my son came to my room where I was comfortably sleeping at around 730 AM..."Mommy, I just went outside." YOU DID? WHY? "To get fresh air" Now, he should be perfectly able to do that, he's 13...but, my boy cannot be trusted yet. I sent him to sleep away camp a few weeks ago for the first time--ACK!!--and it turns out he wandered away from camp because he was upset. They found him of course. This is part of the little things about autism...he just didnt think to tell anyone he was going anywhere...he does not understand the danger of what he's doing. (the tub story, which could have been very dangerous...is definitely funny after the fact)
  15. QUOTE (Imperatrix @ Aug 12 2008, 08:00 PM) Steven Gordon optioned The Eyes of the Dragon and wants to turn it into an animated film, so I hear...but at this time, ain't nothin' goin' on but the rent, baby. NO FREAKIN WAY! I love that book. It really could be a good movie.... for now though I think I'm gonna have to dig that one out and give it a re-read. Thanks for the memory!
  16. QUOTE (GedHead @ Aug 12 2008, 01:23 PM)QUOTE (Queen of Megadon @ Aug 12 2008, 09:06 AM) You know, I just have to ask...how many of you read THE GREEN MILE when it first came out as chapter books? I remember going crazy waiting for them to come out every month! It was a wonderful way to make the story last longer. I bought every one of the chapter books. I hope they never do that again. I could not wait for it to come out, then you have to run to the store and make sure you got your copy... I can't really pick a favorite SK movie, I've read all his books, but I like my imagination better, the movies don't do the descriptions justice oh! But the an-tici---PA-tion! It did make me crazy...but I am happy to have had that experience.

  19. see, now, you're assuming we all have MP3 players...
  20. QUOTE (Mandalorian Hunter @ Aug 2 2008, 01:28 PM) I still think Prisoner Of Azkaban is the best of all. agreed on PoA...the favorite! OoTP had glaring omissions...and it was palpable. Not so much in GoF
  21. you know...I really liked Siskel & Ebert. I'm not a huge movie goer...but it was fun to watch them.
  22. QUOTE (GhostGirl @ Jul 20 2008, 09:32 AM) Thank you all... Janie, you're right on a couple of things: yes, missing the routine of school definitely has an effect. We dread the start of summer around here, which is sad. Also, his behaviors are more difficult with each passing year because he is so BIG, and getting bigger. There is a temporary in-patient program that we may have to consider if we can't get him regulated once school starts and we make any adjustments to his meds/dosages. The worst part of all of this is the growing resentment in our family. We're all suffering from the constant stress, and it breaks my heart. He's such a beautiful little boy, and it's like we're almost afraid of him. GG- As you may have read, I do understand. I send you many hugs and pray for your strength. Just yesterday I had to take my 13 year old for shots. He's taller and stronger than me, but like many times before I had to restrain him somehow. We managed, he yelled a lot, but afterwards he was like...oh, that wasnt so bad. (a head smack emoticon would do well here lol) Anyway, some of what you say has me wondering. What state do you live in? What services do you have to help you at home? My son's IEP has him on a 12 month program. He's in school ALL YEAR, always has been. I dont know what I would have done without that. If you'd like to take this conversation to PM, I'd be happy to chat more about it. Or we can talk about it here. I dont have all the answers, and I'm kind of new here so I dont know all your circumstances, but maybe I can help in a been there done that kind of way. Hang in there.
  23. Perhaps this is a bit off topic...but I'm planning to paint my apartment later this summer, and I want to paint "Begin the day with a friendly voice." in the hallway by the bedrooms. A nice way to wake up no?
  24. Great shots! You are a lucky, lucky dog to be sitting up that close.
