  1. Oh I’ll definitely be buying used. New car smell is nice and all, but it doesn’t last. Plus the Hellcat starts at around $72K. My budget is about $50K, possibly stretching to 60. I need to offload my house first though.
  2. I am not going to read this, I already heard enough about it from some other folks. I think the guy is just classless and a jerk. Let him get his promos another way. Why can't they just leave it be? Exactly! He and b..mouth are getting, and rightly so, lambasted in the comment section of that article article "B....mouth" would be...who?
  3. Corvettes have just never turned my head; I don't know why. A previous employer had one and I got to drive it quite a bit. It was fun, and as a 20-something blonde I did get some looks! I think the new mid-engine ones have a bad case of fugly. One thing I do like about the Challenger is that is has a pretty roomy trunk. I don't need much of a back seat since I have no kids, but trying to wrestle grocery bags or similar in and out of the back seat of a coupe would get old fast.
  4. And holes in my bank account! British cars are, uh, not generally regarded as paragons of mechanical reliability. Every time I see someone in a Land Rover I think to myself, "well, there's someone with more money than brains." Interesting as over here American cars are regarded as a bit of a joke with regard to build quality and reliability..... Interesting....American car manufacturers are mainly concerned with the North American market, which could explain less than stellar reviews from the overseas consumers. Possibly the same holds true for UK car companies - the citizenry gets the good stuff and everyone else is stuck with the afterthoughts! Of course my favorite car is British....I love the Jaguar sport coupes. But I have known a few people who've owned them, and there was a lot of complaining about the amount of time the car spent in the mechanic's shop. Are the Challenger, Mustang, and Camaro even available to UK buyers?
  5. Neil would be embarrassed and, I think, touched deeply if he knew the true "measure of respect" he has earned. A measure beyond measure. This is still nearly as raw and staggering as it was eight days ago.
  6. Am I missing something here? Granted, I haven't skied in forever (since getting a concussion on my second trip skiing), but isn't snow one of the essential elements of a successful ski venture? I think that's why there aren't any ski resorts in the Bahamas. (And here you all were thinking it was the hurricanes). As for me - I've added another thing to my Shovel List. (The Shovel List, for those unfamiliar, is a list of things I hate so much I want to hit them repeatedly with a shovel until they cease to exist. The Shovel List is fluid; it can change daily or even hourly depending on my mood. I borrowed the term from an author whose main character was a spicy, sarcastic chick with a lengthy Shovel List herself). New Shovel List item: "Self-care". I am way past done reading sappy references, hearing sound bites, etc., to this insipid new-agey concept. shovel list. That’s a good one. Shovel lists are sanity savers! You can put people, things, words, phrases....anything you dislike on the shovel list. Then imagine actually beating those things to a pulp with a shovel.

  8. Looks are what drew me to the Challenger in the first place! Rocket ship, lol, I know! I've had nothing but 4 cylinders all my driving life, so I know it's going to take some practice in the high school parking lot (not during school hours, naturally) to get used to a car that goes 0-60 when you breathe on the accelerator. I do have a heavy foot, though I have never had a speeding ticket. Actually I have had very few tickets at all. One factor I have yet to consider is insurance - I have yet to look up rates for "fifty-one year old female, clean driving record, rocket-propelled land grenade".
  9. Challenger Hellcat, Mustang, or Camaro? (Actually what I really want is the new Acura NSX, but it's way out of my price range). I've always had sensible cars. Before I am too old to enjoy it I want a muscle car. My heart lies with the Hellcat, but I could possibly be swayed in the direction of the Mustang. The only thing that really appeals to me about the Camaro is that it would be fun to drive while playing The Dead Milkmen. Of course there's the question of whether someone whose motto is "step on it, numbnuts, the caution light doesn't hold forever!" needs a car with that much power, but there's only one way to find out! What say you, car aficionados?
  10. Wore my legs out in the gym. Increased weight and reps on everything but deadlifts. Tomorrow you might see this same post in the "pissed off" thread.
  11. A burden heavier than a mountain on your shoulders. :o Someone made a comment on that clip concerning the official announcement of Neil's death: This might be controversial but I'm PISSED that Rolling Stone got to break the news. They're so lame and corporate and did not respect Rush back in the day when it was fashionable to dump on Rush. I hadn't considered that but how true....Jan Wenner & Co. did not deserve to be the ones to share the devastating news. For what it's worth, Jann sold Rolling Stone a couple years ago and isn't really involved in their editorial direction anymore outside of being a figurehead. And since that sale happened, they've been a lot more generally positive toward Rush. A lot of people who work there (David Fricke, for example) like Rush but Wenner was the one who didn't like Rush and didn't want the magazine to cover them positively. The reporter who broke the news of Neil's death, Brian Hiatt, was the same guy who wrote the 2015 cover story and was in the Time Stand Still doc and is a longtime fan who clearly has a relationship with the band/Neil/their people. I did not know that; thanks for the info. Fair enough, then!

  13. You haven’t changed a bit!  Nope. Never will! Hell has all the good music anyway.
  14. Well, I clearly have far too much free time on my hands today. I spent about an hour sending nastygrams to some of the more egregiously greedy sellers. Nothing arrest-worthy, don't worry, but we'll see if eBay kicks me out! Of course you know the really mean (but I think it might be ethically justifiable) to do would be to burn one of these sellers. Buy the item, wait until you get it, then launch a dispute with PP. Say you thought the signed drumhead was new, not this dented and scraped up piece of shit the seller sent. Something like that. eBay/Paypal always sides with the buyer and issues a refund - it's why I would never sell anything on eBay. I have friends who've gotten burned selling things like expensive horse tack - we're talking in the thousands. Of course you are supposed to return the item, but neither eBay nor PP will do anything to ensure that actually happens. I know. I'm evil. Hope to see some of you in hell.
  15. Holy shit....did I really say that, so recently, about my now ex-husband? 2014 was when I really started to come to terms with my shitty marriage and that triggered a horrific depressive episode. I was miserable, knew the marriage was a mistake as I was walking down the aisle. But no one ever wants to admit they've made that big of a mistake. Wealthy? Heh, he'll be lucky if he doesn't spend his last years living under an overpass. I don't hate him and accept my part in it, but it was 14 years I wish I had to do over again. No sex after the honeymoon (which was actually OK by me as I was on Lexapro for much of our married life - it's a libido killer. Plus he was lousy at it. People, if it's no good BEFORE the marriage, a trip to the altar won't magically improve things). The man is incapable of holding a job. And when he has one, he can't manage money. I am almost finished paying off 9 years' worth of back taxes....the one thing I trusted him with, filing our taxes, he screwed up royally. Never filed his 1099s so we got nailed with a crapton of penalties and interest. It's in the divorce decree that he's supposed to Paypal me 50% of the monthly payments by the 5th of each month. Divorce was final in 2016 and I think I might have received a total of $200. I still get his mail occasionally and he has pawned his car title. To a 2006 Hyundai Elantra....yeah. But he is off my payroll now, I am living with an absolutely wonderful man whose only complaint about me is that I am a very active sleeper (it's bad, lol, we may have to start sleeping apart for the first 3 or 4 hours each night until I settle down). He's mostly retired - does stained and leaded glass repair and restoration and works about as much as he wants to. We're comfortable, not wealthy by any stretch, but not lacking. Since this is the womens' forum, I will also somewhat smugly drop just one word: MASSIVE!
  16. Thank you, Doane, for sharing this tidbit and maybe easing our pain a little.

  18. I could have lived out the rest of my days quite happily without having read that interview. Knowing what I know of glioblastoma, I am already quite aware of its effects on those stricken with it - it is a particularly cruel form of cancer. I've got an active imagination but so far had been successful in not allowing my mind to "go there" with regards to Neil. I'm going to give Erna the benefit of the doubt and assume he meant no harm. However, it's not his first rodeo with the media and he should know to measure his words.
  19. I’ve had almost nothing but Rush in my headphones during workouts since Friday. Normally they’re not my first choice as workout music; I tend to prefer harder stuff when I am lifting. And for cardio (I run), prog isn’t exactly the ideal choice for maintaining a rhythm! I had an excellent shoulder session earlier today with Grace Under Pressure and then a decent run through most of Signals. I will say that Power Windows and Hold Your Fire are both good songs for running. Hemispheres turned out to be great accompaniment for a leg workout, oddly enough. Yeah, I can't lift to Rush, either. But, it's ok for hiking.I thought you were into cycling? That's my (now-ex) husband who was the cyclist. Last time I saw him he was approaching the 300 lb. mark, so I doubt he's still doing that. I lift religiously and run....running mainly as it's my preferred form of cardio. (I'm not supposed to run because of an artificial hip, but we're approaching the 20 year anniversary of that hip and so far, so good). Been lifting since October. I like it, because I feel better after I go, but there is a lot I can't do and a lot to learn, like how to bring more intensity. Also, I get very fatigued if I go more than 3 days in a row. Really nice to hear from you. I haven't been on here for a long time and I am reminded of how funny your posts are. Glad you're doing well.

  21. Photoshopped? Yes but they are selling the shirt. It's clearly not legal to do this.... No, it can't be legal using an image that 100% implies that Alex is endorsing the product. His lawyers could jump on that. Producing and selling a shirt however is legal, if very distasteful. No different to those guys selling shirts outside gigs. The only way I'd be OK with that shirt would be if 100% of profits went to brain cancer research and treatment, and I'd need to see verifiable proof of that being the case before I would buy one. Come to think of it, almost everything on that shirt is copyrighted material. The photos, the lyrics, the logos....everything except Neil's birth/death dates and "Legends Never Die". Hopefully a couple of greedy bastards will get a C&D letter in short order.

  23. Not to mention, what are the odds of two of the most accomplished and beloved musicians in Canadian history succumbing to brain cancer in a relatively short timeframe? Surreal. Tangential but also surreal: in 2005 glioblastoma also claimed the life of Robert Moog, he of the Moog synthesizer that revolutionized electronic music. Signals, Power Windows, and of course Neil's trademark solos owe much to Mr. Moog.
