  1. QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Jul 19 2010, 08:35 AM) QUOTE (hrmavica @ Jul 19 2010, 09:13 AM) The Amphitheatre show by a mile. Higher energy Open air venue Fewer technical snafus The ACC show had goofballs singing along to the instrumental portions of EVERY song. Even during the friggin guitar solos! I am all for singing your bloody guts out when there are discernable lyrics, but this whole "ooooooo-oooooo-eeeeee-aaaaaa" nonsense is ridiculous. Yeah...people having fun at concerts. How disrespectful of them. You're missing my point. YYZ in Rio was pretty cool... once. Prior to Rush in Rio, I had never heard anything like it happen before. But it shows up in one DVD and now, all of a sudden this is "what you do" at a Rush concert? Give me a break! People found lots of other ways to enjoy Rush shows prior to RiR. So by all means, let's take what was once a novelty and in typical Rush-fan fashion, jump on the bandwagon and run it into the ground. Secondly, I'm not even sure it is just a matter of having fun at the show. I think these people are attention-starved juveniles who feel the need to announce to the rest of the audience, "Hey, look how much I know about Rush!! I can "biddly-diddly-doo" to the keyboards in Vital Signs!" Sadly, that type of insecurity is prevalent in much of Rush's fanbase. Why else do we feel the need to constantly defend them against critics and our peers? Clearly the three band members could care less. Why should we?

  3. Agreed, it was a show for the ages. Gotta give some props to the T.O. crowd for showing a bit of energy for once. Caravan sounded a bit unpolished to me, but BU2B knocked my friggin socks off. That tune can only be described as Heavy-duty Electric Thunk-Ka-Chunk! Would have liked to see Ged go-fer-it a bit more with the "One moment's high..." parts in Marathon, but still pretty awesome.

  5. Pearl Jam! Pearl Jam! Pearl Jam! These guys play a different set each night and and AND they actually consider the last setlist played at each location when determining which songs to play for the next one. This past October they played 4 shows in Philly (over 5 days) and just about played every single tune they have ever recorded (and some they haven't recorded) over the course of the 4 shows. Also, at the show I saw in Toronto last year, the opening band was missing their lead singer and couldn't play, so members of Pearl Jam came out (solo) and played a mini set before the actual show! Finally, they routinely break curfew to fit songs in. Nobody treats their fans better than PJ.
  6. I can recall seeing a triple-bill of Dokken, Whitesnake and The Scorpions. There was a burn-out couple sitting in front of my group who were completely stoned out of their minds and they continued to toke during the entire Dokken set. (Not The Scorpions, not Whitesnake, but those venerable gods of rock, Dokken!!! ) After Dokken's set finished, the girl puked her guts out and was politely escorted, along with her dirtbag male companion, out of the arena. I've never laughed so hard in my life!

  8. This is the best idea I have heard in a while. But I think it only works if you include the "EARN..GIVE............ LISTEN!!!!" part too.
  9. It's also worth noting that they won Juno awards (Canada's Grammy equivalent) for Presto and Roll The Bones.
  10. QUOTE (LERXST69 @ May 28 2010, 09:45 AM) QUOTE (VarianStar @ May 28 2010, 03:39 PM) Considering that the 90s is my favorite era of the band, I won't be joining you either. Maybe you're too young. The era in which you come in contact with Rush probably will be your favorite and it'll always stay that way. Totally agreed. The first rush album I owned was Test for Echo. It remains one of my favourites to date even while many call it Rush's worst. I for one am glad that it worked out that way. It allowed me to explore the "back catalogue" with an open mind rather than dwell on the fact that Rush sounds nothing like they did in 1978. That being said, I'm finding myself being guilty of that very point when it comes to bands that got their start in the early-mid 90's. Love Dream Theater, but hate NEW Dream Theater. Red Hot Chili Peppers... U2... Metallica... the list goes on. With each of those bands, I wish I could go back in time, and ignore them until around 2004. Then buy a new release before delving into the older stuff.
