  1. I've cracked up every time I see the commercials, but I keep missing it! It looks really funny and now I'm gonna really make a point to watch it next time. AGP, what's its time slot? Do you remember off the top of your head?
  2. QUOTE (NeilPeartFan2112 @ Feb 26 2005, 12:34 AM) I have no idea... Look for this show NPF, it's worth trying to find it if it's on in your area! It's kind of like a "Home Improvement" type show.
  3. Oh. Yeah, yeah. They did give us that. Uh, that's true. Yeah
  4. Welcome to Possum Lodge! Red Green, a cult comedy series, takes special aim at the humorous side of the male ego and other inflatables. The minds of men, where available, are explored with mixed results. The Red Green Show features the antics of Possum Lodge leader Red Green, his techno-geek nephew Harold, klutzy naturalist Bill, and the rest of the Possum Lodge gang. In each episode, the men pass the time bonding, adventuring, entrepreneuring, and generally keeping the eight-year-old in them alive. http://www.redgreen.com/images/scrapbook/red_and_harold/redandharold-1.jpg I've thought about starting this for a while now, and several comments by a few of you have made me do it! I never heard of it til I moved here to rural N.W. Arkansas. My father-in-law made me watch it. when I finally did, I was hooked! I would love this series on DVD! The 'wisdom' of Red as he talks about differences between men and women, getting older, male bonding, etc. And all the crazy stuff that Red builds... OMG! One of my favs was the washing machine converted into make beer! And what about the Possum Van and all those 'converted' cars?! http://www.redgreen.com/images/scrapbook/behind_scenes/Mvc-142x.jpg This is a great show. Several different characters have come and gone over the years and it keeps the show fresh, but I really miss some of them, like 'Buzz' Sherwood(and his laugh), Hap Shaughnessy(who inveted EVERYTHING!), and Edgar Montrose('tutanka' himself, Mr. Graham Greene)! I live by the "any tool can be the right tool" philosophy! And who's seen their movie, Duct Tape Forever? Anybody else have any idea what I'm babbling about here? If not, you need to look for this on PBS and check out their website: http://www.redgreen.com/ If you're a Red Green fan, then good for you! And post any and all your stuff here! 5. QUOTE (Let The Fray Begin @ Feb 25 2005, 08:58 AM) Uhhh.. oooooh.. nooo Edit: I wish I could properly mimic the voices in that scene, but my keyboard limits me I don't know... did a pretty good job I thought! When you read these things, do you do the voices too, like the 'peperpots,' in your head (or out loud)? I always do... I just can't help it! Ello, Mrs. Premise. Oh, Ello, Mrs. Conclusion. Busy Day? Busy? I just spent four hours burying the cat. Four hours to bury a cat? Yes - it wouldn't keep still. Shreekin' about... howlin'. Oh - it wasn't dead, then? No, no - but it's not at all a well cat , and bein' as we're going away for a fortnight, I thought I'd better bury it, just on the safe side.
  6. What rock have I been living under? Never ever heard of this movie! Guess I need to check it out, based on all your comments! How'd I miss this one?

There just happens to be an IMAX theatre in my town... but its inside a large spherelike building you have to see to believe called Science World, and I believe you have to pay for both the movie AND the Science World admission. If I'm ever there though, I'll see it Yeah, we have an Omnimax theater here as well (if thats what they call it by you). Last time I was there I saw Star Wars on it... Got an IMAX in Branson, MO., about 35 miles away. Saw LOTR(ROTK) there last... it was awesome! I'll have to watch for this one, for sure! They played LOTR in Omnimax?? WOW, that must have been some show.... Of course, not in actual IMAX format, just 35mm, but they get it almost as large... and it WAS awesome. I remember thinking, as they showed a close-up of Frodo's hand and the ring, "Man! His thumb is literally as big as my house!!!" Our IMAX shows lots of 'regular' films in this 'enlarged' 35mm format. I've seen several like that. Check one out if your theater does this!

Today we know this light was an exploding star and record the colorful expanding cloud as the Veil Nebula. Pictured above is the west end of the Veil Nebula known technically as NGC 6960 but less formally as the Witch's Broom Nebula. The rampaging gas gains its colors by impacting and exciting existing nearby gas. The supernova remnant lies about 1400 light-years away towards the constellation of Cygnus. This Witch's Broom actually spans over three times the angular size of the full Moon. The bright blue star 52 Cygnus is visible with the unaided eye from a dark location but unrelated to the ancient supernova. Wow... I love every pic you ever post here RR! LOVE IT! Thanks! BTW - still haven't got to ask about those "space batteries" we were talking about earlier, possibly this weekend, but I'll post here as soon as I have something for ya! lol omg I vaguely remember that - wasn't the question something like why the hell did they put batteries that only last like an hour on the craft that landed on Saturns moon after traveling for years... Still thinking like 2 AA Duracells or something there "Shit, Earl, we only have $1.48 left in the budget on this damn thing for power..." Yea, that was it... and the guy who's house I'm building works for one of the only places in the country that makes batteries for spaceships and such... the Hubble is their battery, most are, he tells me. I'm gonna get the 'scoop' from him the next time I talk to him, I just haven't seen him yet!

  11. QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Feb 22 2005, 10:57 PM) You gotta love horror movie trailers that give away the big scares and major plot points. So very true... seen the trailer... seen the movie now too... there, I'm done! Yea, this'll be a BIG HIT!
  12. Didn't even know another one was in the making! Thanks for posting Slain!
  13. ME TOO!!! I know it's coming... I know what they're gonna say, word for word, and I'm STILL laughing... even befoer the scene starts!!! But have you ever seen it while listening to the audio commentary, specifically the one with Jones/Gilliam 'narrating' the movie? If you've haven't, I know you will enjoy it Kazz!
  14. OK... I asked for that, didn't I?
  15. You guys are so great! Thanks Schro, for 'stickin up' for me! But I didn't take anything the wrong way from anyone here! In fact, I kind of agree that it's not all that great of a movie, but from an informational point of view (and including the bonu features), I thought it was worth people checking out. I don't even remember what I wrote exactly, but I probably had a bigger interest in this having done my 'time' in mgmt. at Taco Hell. Plus, I am an independent contractor now, in a very small town with not a lot of options, and I end up eating a lot of my lunches at these places, although I do try to get to 'real' restaurants as often as possible. Anyway, I just thought the movie was interesting, but if mom hadn't sent it to me, I doubt that I would have ever rented it. I think it's worth a look, when you can't find anything else to rent anyway! And for those of you who have seen it, can you offer any explaination about the french fries?? What makes them stay so "fresh" for so long!! Thanks again for everyones opinion. That's what this board is all about... our opinions, and our love for Rush, of course!
  16. Didn't see a thread on this yet (if I missed it, sorry!) so here goes... This is a 'documentary' on a guy who goes on a McDonald's only 'diet' for one month to see the effects on him. Very facinating. I had time to watch this, finally! Everybody should see this at least once. Below are a few thing I thought about after seeing it (sorry, it got kind of long! ). What did you think? NOTE: There is some discusion here that may be perceived as a SPOILER, so if you don't want to know about any part of it... PLEASE, DO NOT READ FURTHER! First off, the Smoking Fry thing... I've found 'old' fries under car seats and known that I had been months since I had eaten in the car, but I guess I never really thought about what it should have looked like! (My personal fav in this segment was the chicken sandwich... so... runny!) In the special features, there's an interview with the author of "Fast Food Nation" that you should watch. It's about 20+ min. but I found it as interesting as the movie itself! Actually, all the special features are worth watching. As far as the film itself, I thought it was very well done. It was fairly well documented and he established a good baseline to judge by, so the results were pretty dramatic for him. I don't think I expected much else as far as the ending was concerned. Anyone watching this could figure out from the onset where this was going to lead! I did have some thoughts as I was watching though. One thing I wondered about was that he seemed to be a fairly healthy eater already. His girlfriend is a Vegan and she made his 'last supper' in the film. They've obviously been together for a while, and I'd guess by watching her that they eat alot together and he doesn't mind. At least that's what I picked up on watching them together. Anyway, my point is that I wonder what the baseline and then the consequent physical reactions would have been with a more 'regular' guy? And what I mean by that is, would a guy who already eats like several times a week at fast food places, or the guy who eats every lunch (5 day/week) there but has home-cooked meals at nights... what would HIS baseline be, and how would HIS body react? Not saying ANYTHING here other than I'm curious what kind of eating habits he had before all this. And if a more 'normal' test subject would get "less dramatic" results. Like I said, this thinking is on the assumption that he eats a lot of what his Vegan girlfried makes. I know at the end he went on a special 'cleansing' diet she put him on, and the notes at the end said he quit it after a while, but I'd bet he was a pretty healthy eater to start with. Another thing was the throwing up towards the beginning. This also relates back to my previous point about him eating his girlfriends food mostly, but more specifically a seperate observation here. I know he was trying to show about the sizes and amounts in the servings, but he was obviously forcing himself to completely eat the entire supersized meal, every last bit, one of his first ever meals in this experiment, and got sick becuase he ate too much. Not because of some reaction to the food in his body, as the film might lead you to assume that's what they're saying at that point, but he was forcing the last several bites after complaining of feeling uncomfortable and all bloated! I think he just flat out he ate too much and puked! That's all. But with all that being said, it's still makes you think about ever going back into anyplace like that. I used to be a GM for 3 years in this industry, so I can only tell you of what I know about Taco Bell (at least the way it was 10 yrs ago). As far as 'processed' foods go, TB has a program called 'kitchen quick prep' in which they pre-make some of the items, mainly just the beef, chicken, steak, and beans. The beans, for example, are freeze-dried, real refried beans. You add one quart of boiling water (out of an instant boiling water tap on the wall) to one bag of beans, cover and let stand covered 30 min., then serve. Hence 'quick prep'! All the meat is prepared the same. Since it's pre-packaged in vacuum sealed, boil-in-bag containers, each bag is just immersed in a boiling water stock pot and 'cooked' for 30 min. I'm sure the meats are all processed much the same as described in this movie, but I can't be sure. I do know that during the short time we did breakfasts, the bacon and sausage came directly from Oscar Meyer and Jimmie Dean, respectively, so it's hopefully a better quality coming from them, for what that's worth. But everything else is prep'ed in each store... fresh tomatoes, cilantro, onions, lettuce, all cut, sliced, diced, mixed as needed into pico de gallo, salsa, or just by themselves as taco toppings. The lettuce is now pre-shredded and packaged, but all the other ingredients are fresh. I'm not saying that TB is good for you or anything like that, I just know that as far as fast food places go, it's about the only place I feel comfortable about what's going on behind the counter, not only with the food itself, but for the "food safety" issues ALL resturants face, with cleanliness, sanitation, etc. I thought the movie might delve into that a bit, which it didn't, but that' a whole nuther movie right there! OMG... take the food safety course I had to... You'll never want to eat ANYTHING ever again! I'm serious... there's stuff out there that thrives in every environment imaginable; you say boil it or cook it at high temps... sorry, there's stuff that doesn't start growing until it get above 180f, you say freeze it... sorry again, you say vacuum seal it... nope, there are anaerobic organisms that thrive in a no-air environment... you just can't beat 'em!! All you can do is hold them at bay long enough so they'll pass through your body! That's the reality of eating anything, no matter where you get your food from. But you know, TB is a little cog on the big, huge, Pepsico wheel, along with Pizza Hut, KFC, Frito Lay, and Pepsi Cola (of course). I think these guys know a thing or two about marketing! And even though I worked for them and feel Taco Bell is still the 'least' of the bunch, it's still not good for you. None of it is. But we all knew that already! It's up to us to decide what and when to eat. It's like anyhting else we do on this earth, we make choices that affect us for years to come. As adults we have that 'freedom of choice' because we have knowledge, common sense, and resources that help us make informed, intelligent decisions. Kids are still learning, they don't have near the common sense yet, and certainly aren't going to seek out information like this, even if they knew how! It our example, as parents, that will do the greatest good, IMO. Bottom line, see this movie if you can, 'cause this is stuff you NEED to know, at least! Do with it what you will, but don't blame anyone else, like McDonald, saying "you had no idea" because you will, if you watch this!
  17. You're all absolutely right! You know, I was watching some of the special features on all the history of Looney Tunes and the phrase "they don't make 'em like that anymore" comes to mind. And it's because they can't! It was a different time then. Cartoons were made for a totally different reason then. There wasn't any such thing as TV! The production of these 'classics' was done in the old, back lot buildings of the movie studios, with kind of shabby offices and 'leftovers' from everything else the studio was doing. Cartoons were strickly movie openers and such. And with all the goings-on in the world in those early years, and the mentality of the American people then... all made for a unique conglomeration of very talented and driven producers and animators (animating the good old fashioned way, in a non-computerized world) who brought together and developed such rich characters that they would endure and thrive to this very day! You can't just 'redo' the Looney Tunes characters... they are indeed true classics and the time will never exist again that will see anything like them! Fortunately, we have a ton of material that exists already, and will be enjoyed my millions more children as each generation passes them down... and they will, have no fear! I don't care what you put up against them, there's just no competition, it truely doesn't get any better that the original Looney Tunes. So put out what you want WB... in the end you'll go back to the 'standard' that was established before most of you WB execs. were probably even born! Because that's what 'the people' will want!
  18. Thanks Magnus... great questions BTW, and tough too! I lived in Canada when I was young but that was in the mid 60's so I didn't have a clue on your first question. Anyway, here's the next... Who were the first two "Pythons" to work together (obviously, before they were Pythons!)? And if you care to, tell me what were they in together, and when?
  19. The Greek Orthodox Archbishop Macarios' brother, because Archbishop Macarios was dead, and anyway, his borther would be cheaper!
