  2. QUOTE (Your_Lion @ Jul 16 2012, 04:20 PM) Beautiful. You brought tears to my eyes Really? It brought bacon to mine
  3. Endless Dream LIVE. totally epic
  4. Well I voted for the Keys material, particularly Mind Drive and Be the One, which are amazing. A considerably awesome nod to Magnification, an album which turned out to be the best $2 CD I ever purchased at FYE. Dreamtime I think is my favorite on that one. I'd also like to recommend Talk. A couple of cheesy tunes but the last one makes up for it completely. Totally awesome stuff. I don't care so much for Open Your Eyes or the Ladder, save for a couple of songs. (although Can I is pretty hilarious (since when did Jon think he's African? ))
  5. The butcher has some time up his sleeve The bacon cures away It cures away I freakin love it! Tick! You are the Smokemaster!
  6. QUOTE (troutman @ Jul 14 2012, 06:04 PM) QUOTE (Ancient Ways @ Jul 11 2012, 05:56 PM) one potato, two potato, three potato, four. The more potatoes, the better!
  7. Wow, Gemini! Some pretty deep stuff...maybe Neil will surrender his title as lyricist and give you that job! And maybe they'll even kick Geddy out of the band and replace him with TRENKEN! #1 hits across the board!!!

Learn by ear like a real player. This is the most ignorant thing I've read on the forums in some time. Playing it by ear involves a ton of trial and error. Not everyone has time to do that. Let me use similar logic: can you modify your system files so that you can completely optimize your computer's performance or appearance? If not then you don't really know how to use a computer. He's right and I totally agree with him. Learning by ear takes time but it really does train you to identify notes and where they are on the fretboard the instant you hear them so you get to the point where learning stuff without tabs becomes easy. Tabs really slow down the development of your ear when you use them as a crutch to lean on even for stuff that isn't that complex. I used to use tabs growing up learning some Dream Theater stuff because they are just ridiculously more complex than Rush ever was and it gets very hard to pick up every note by ear, but most Rush doesnt require tabs. There's nothing on this album even inexperienced musicians cant learn just by listening to it. It shouldnt take too much trial and error at all. Geddy doesnt play any of those crazy little runs he used to do and the bass is pretty up front. Yeah I get why you would want a tab for that 2nd little bass run in YYZ, but he really doesnt have a lot of stuff like that throughout their entire catalog. Most of it can be learned by ear without much time spent figuring it out. For guitar its a little different because there's chords involved, but for bass there is just no reason why anyone would need tabs for this album or most of their others. What do you Laaaack??? You lack empathy and consideration of what others are capable of. You don't seem to give a damn to let others get their fair share of, their fair share of... If empathy is what he lacks, he should consult with GeminiRising! That man is so empathetic that he was willing to listen to the whole album just for us!

Geddy doesn't do his little bass runs anymore? Have you listened to the album more than once? I'd say he was pretty damn good on it. Sure, he may not have been playing the "La Villa" solo or anything, but f**k you for thinking we should all be a bunch of highly skilled music masters! All that tabs are, are tools. Do you use tools at your job? Oh I forgot, you're a professional vocalist and musicianship critic, and you're above the use of tools.

No Buy It Now option. It did have one, but as soon as someone bid on it it went away. I had it priced at $125. But now I'm kinda glad no one took it at that price. I think it might go for close to $200. No bad considering I bought it for $20. Damn! I would have paid $125 for it for sure. Especially after seeing it for around $300 typically... I hate that Counterparts and Vapor Trails are those albums that are just so hard to find. And they're the only ones I'm missing! I made sure I scored Snakes and Arrows and Clockwork Angels as soon as they came out. I guess if I want a complete collection someday I'll just have to bite the bullet and drop hundreds on them. Hi Tarkus, I have a mint and unused Vapor Trails LP in my collection. Shoot me a message if you're interested. How much

  14. I kinda like it! If they would try to write their own music, devoid of blatent Rush ripoffery, I'd be extremely interested in hearing more. Awesome sounding synth.

  16. QUOTE (canadianice @ Jul 6 2012, 09:21 PM) QUOTE (trenken @ Jul 6 2012, 08:34 PM) I like a lot of the music and melodies on MFH, but the lyrics are empty and lame. For a solo album it's very good, and I definitely hear some of that on this album. The main difference is MFH sounds like it was meticulously written, and CA sounds like it was jammed out in a studio like the band said how it was written. I prefer them to slave over the writing like they did on all of their best albums than to force themselves out of whats worked so well for them and try to write an album on the fly. I believe the only other album they did this with was Hemispheres, but they were young men then and spend a lot of time in the studio putting that together. So thats the main difference between this and MFH which we know Geddy wrote on his own and took time to write it, but I do hear parts of this in that. Not too much though. The bridge section of Wreckers could have been on MFH. Sadly there's not nearly enough parts as good as that on this album. Why do you always have to elude to the age thing?, these guys dance circles around anything you could imagine, in even in your huge ego dreams, and they are twice your age, dude. How is that for old age. Woo! Man, that burns like the morning after spicy hot tamales, chili nachos, tortillas and con queso!
  17. They'll play BU2B2 but skip Wish Them Well?
  18. QUOTE (NYM86 @ Jul 6 2012, 10:57 PM) QUOTE (Slack jaw gaze @ Jul 6 2012, 10:13 PM) I thought the jam at the end of Digital Man on the S&A tour really improved the way that song ended. I hope they do something similar with The Wreckers. I pretty much can't stand any "jams" Rush tries to throw into songs at concerts. The half-time thing they did in Closer to the Heart on the Time Machine tour was ridiculous, and the extended jam at the end of Digital Man on the Snakes & Arrows tour killed all the sharpness/snap that song is supposed to have...IMHO. Those are just two examples I can think of right now, but it stands to reason that Rush is a compositional band to the extreme. When they try to stray from that gameplan, I rarely enjoy the result... Are you high? Or not high enough?

Most of the bass is pretty up front in the mix so you can just hear the notes. And he isnt playing anything too fast or complex to make it difficult to learn by ear. Everything on here should be easy to pick up by ear and just memorizing the notes. That 2nd little bass solo in YYZ, yeah I get why you would need tabs for that, but there is nothing even remotely close to that on this album. Do you have any youtube videos of Rush bass covers you have done? I would love to see them. Although I would not be able to give any real critique, as I usually just like guitar covers. Yeah, Trenken talks a lot about his superior bass playing, guitar playing, singing and songwriting, but has never posted any links. QUOTE (trenken @ Jun 3 2012, 07:06 PM)Ive been slaving away writing and album myself for the last 3 years. Doing it all myself on the Mac in Logic, and Ive made it a serious focus not to use power chords if I didnt need to. I only really use them on melodic choruses sometimes, or some here and there in other parts but trying to avoid them because when I use them they sound so generic. Actually Im really loving using dissonant chords in some of the heavier songs because its so different sounding, something Alex doesnt do for some reason. And also trying to do interesting things with the guitar in the verses, not playing chords, but notes, effects, etc... I did post a youtube vid of me singing Hemispheres. Not my problem you missed it chump. I hit the notes after hours of recording my own stuff with a tired voice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eljJsLYbKjI I f**k up some notes in there from worn out vocals, but I can point you to some youtube vids of Geddy on the Hemispheres tour sounding far worse than what I recorded there if you like. On a Rush board where everyone sucks their cocks all day noone can be good at anything without being labelled as arrogant. The only people that say that are the ones that suck. f***ing hater. I guess if you cant sing their toughest stuff or play bass as good then you just hate on those that can, and Im a far better bassist than I am a singer. That was absolutely awful. He sure is good! (at tootin' his own horn)

Well considering I'm still pretty new at the instrument and can't yet learn things just by ear, I do need tabs. Dude it doesn't matter if you're new or Have been playing for 8 years. Tabs are a helpful tool. Very unlike trenken! He's just being his usual egotistical holier than thou, arrogant self. I'm looking forward to seeing the songs tabbed out. Just to add...ive been playing for 10 years and I can already play quite a few of the new songs. Still want tabs.
