  1. My initial thought, after hearing the album a few times, was that they should play the whole thing straight through.....similar to what Porcupine Tree did with The Incident (I know that Neil respected that concert, based on some interview somewhere). However, you make a good point about the vocals. This made me consider another option: Clockwork Angels seems to be a retrospective on life in general. It follows the protagonist through all the generic phases of life that you read about in philisophical-type things (i.e., bright eyed optimist goes on a journey and learns that life can be crap, then realizes what is really important in life). So, it might make sense to do the concert in different phases that follow the general timeline of the CA suite. To whit: Play the first few CA songs about yearning to leave one's upbringing and starting the journey (Caravan/BU2B/CA....discovering the world), then follow with a couple of early Rush songs. Segue into the Anarchist/Carnies/Halo Effect....things initially seem great, but one soon learns the hazards of life on the road. Next, a few songs from the Rush heyday. Next, 7 Cities/Wreckers/Headlong (things start to go shitty in your life), followed by a few 90's songs. Then, BU2B2/Wish Them Well/The Garden (you finally realize that this is what you're stuck with, so might as well make the best of it), followed by some latter day Rush from VT and SA. Granted, this would be a lousy way to end the concert, so they would have to come up with a great encore!
  2. This album has reignited my enthusiasm for Rush in general. I probably haven't listened to a full Rush album in the past two years, but this release has me giddy as my old high school self! I was not very fond of Caravan or BU2B when they were released, and they never really grew for me (until now). I did like Headlong Flight when it came out, but it didn't thrill me. Having heard the full album though, my inner fanboi has been reawakened. I really do love this album (really liked it on first listen, and really love it after about eight listens). So, I have decided to revisit the Rush back catalog, to rekindle my memories. I am part of the group that loved Rush up until HYF, lost interest through the 90s, then rediscovered them with Vapor Trails. Just to add, I have always liked Snakes and Arrows, although in hindsight this might be strongly linked to the many great times that I had during that tour.....holy shit we had fun at many shows during that tour!!!!! Loving CA and my Rush fanboi rebirth, and am really looking forward to this fall!!!
  3. I've listened 7 or 8 times, and I'm currently at the point that I really like every song. I have even come to appreciate Caravan and BU2B much more than I did before (I was very lukewarm on these songs through the whole Time Machine tour). Favorite song is Clockwork Angels (so much going on there). Least favorite is Wish Them Well, although I've come to appreciate it now that I've read the liner notes pre-story. This is new for me.....usually lyrics/meaning don't really have a big effect on whether or not I like a song. I am also astounded at how well this album flows. I don't usually pay attention to this aspect of a recording, but it really jumps out at me here. A universally relatable life story and the songs totally fit each situation to my ears. Wonderful! I would be thrilled to hear any of these songs in concert, and indeed I would like them to play the entire album! Come on September!!! (Edited for html fail)
  4. QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Jun 7 2012, 06:56 PM)QUOTE (lifeson90 @ Jun 7 2012, 05:55 PM) from the opening note in concert, this song is going to kill everyone there how do you know it's going to get played? I'd be willing to take the bet that this will be played. Gorgeous song! I can see this vying for a spot in the top 10 Rush songs for me, and definitely one of the best (if not the best) 'mellow' Rush song.
  5. QUOTE (treeduck @ Jun 7 2012, 06:00 PM) Masseur from Bolton England ... Alright, this line made me LOL as I was in mid-drink and a coughing fit ensued. Bravo!

  10. QUOTE (HeadlongMark @ May 18 2012, 11:50 AM) QUOTE (Joesaracer @ May 18 2012, 10:48 AM) I think Neil might be hinting that many, if not all the songs may be played live. Also interesting to hear his thoughts on Wish Them Well. I have no problems if they do Clockwork Angels in its entirety. I believe it is that strong of an album. I'll bet that they will play the entire album straight through. I'm pretty sure that Neil made some statements that he was impressed when Porcupine Tree did this with The Incident, and I really think they will do it. I'm up for something different, so I'm cool with that.
  11. QUOTE (chrisw25 @ May 7 2012, 05:51 PM) First ten minutes for Toronto, nothing would come up for the floors but seats available in lower bowl. I just kept re-entering then the first floors that came up for me were FLR Right Row 3. Very pleased although they are seats 43 and 44 which tells me I'm way to the right. The question is, how many seats are in the row? I got seats 45 and 46 right beside you, so at least you aren't at the very end of the row....
  12. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Apr 26 2012, 06:05 PM)QUOTE (LeaveMyThingAlone @ Apr 26 2012, 02:32 PM) Mediums like Rock Band, Guitar Hero and movie like I Love you man are most likely bringing in many more Rush fans than new music ever will. I'm sure there are plenty of new fans and teenagers that will buy CA, but not because they heard Headlong Flight, but because they became a fan as a result of the other stuff Kind of a sign of the times.... I agree. The only thing is, you wouldn't find a song like Headlong Flight (or Caravan or BU2B for that matter) on Rock Band because they simply aren't as good (or catchy or classic) as the old Rush standards that do show up on those kinds of games, so that still fits in with my idea that the majority of people are going to get into the band based on their classic songs, not their new material. Either that or older fans will get people interested, but even then it will mostly be based on their older material. Actually, Caravan is available as a downloadable song in Rock Band 3. I actually wouldn't be surprised to see Headlong Flight released at some point over the next few months.
  13. Yep, I got three tix in fourth row for opening night. Threw back about 25 times, then these ones popped up at about 12:15. Note to people: RECAPTCHA didn't work for me when I was using Firefox. I lost a few precious minutes messing around, then switched over to Internet Explorer. Not sure if this was just my machine, but you might want to use IE for Music Today sales.

  15. I was hovering around 'like' when I first heard it yesterday, but it suddenly clicked when I heard it this morning on the radio while driving to work. Love it!!
  16. QUOTE (Rushman14 @ Apr 13 2012, 08:22 PM) I'm addicted to the new Legend Of Zelda game for the Wii. Yeah, I'm with you on that one. Looking for dragon songs and all that shit...
  17. I can't believe only one other person has voted for number 30. Cheers #30 brother/sister!
  18. QUOTE (JohnnyBlaze @ Feb 16 2012, 08:13 AM)Sounds like total shit. He'd be much cooler as a survivor of a zombie outbreak. Well, the author of 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer' did also write 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies', so maybe there will be a zombie-filled sequel. Both were amusing reads, and I'm sorta looking forward to the movie! http://teainateacup.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/pride-and-prejudice-and-zombies.jpg
  19. Just checking in to shed a tear that this thread is still going. To add some content, I would have to say that my personal favorite (although it changes day to day) is:
  20. QUOTE (JohnnyBlaze @ Dec 24 2011, 12:00 AM) QUOTE (trenken @ Dec 24 2011, 12:42 PM)And by the way, I am not a man of religion at all. In fact I share most of the same beliefs as Neil does. I dont believe anyone is pulling anyone strings, Im a very firm believe in the idea that sometimes shit just happens, noone is controlling that. Believe me, Im on board with him with all of this stuff. He and I are very alike in our beliefs, but Im very tired of him going on and on about this. Ok a song here and there was fine. Then we get to S&A which was just an all out assault, and now this? When I first heard BU2B I couldnt do anything else but just roll my eyes. It's obvious he has nothing else to write about aside from religion and riding his bike. That's all that's left. His brain is just very sterile right now. That beating a dead horse GIF is pretty much perfect for all that Neil has written about for, what, a decade now? Awesome. I love how you go on and on about Peart going on and on. That beating a dead horse GIF is pretty much perfect for all that trenken has written about for, what, seems to be a decade now? Awesome. It is very Sisyphusian! (I have decided to pepper this thread with various words that will either: (a) make someone feel clever because they know the word, or ( make someone learn something neato through a Google search!, or © make someone think I'm a dick just because!)
  21. I have affected their mindset a few times but never wrote a book about it. That would be so rodomontade.
  22. Happy Birthday Rolinda!! I'd have a drink with you in chat, but it appears to not be here anymore....D'Oh!!
