  1. Yep, the show was packed, but Buffalo has always been a great Rush town and they've never had much trouble selling tickets here. That's why it was so surprising when they didn't come here on The Time Machine tour. The show last friday would've sold well even if they did play here on the last tour. This area has always supported Rush very well. True, given the spillover from Canada to Buffalo it's almost a "home" show for them.
  2. Yes, The Pass was really, really good. This was my fourth show, but the first time I'd seen The Pass. I was in the lower bowl (126) and had a pretty good view, I really like that venue. He did say something about his ear monitors. I laughed when he said "nothing to be concerned about"

  4. QUOTE (mazyyz @ Oct 10 2012, 10:31 PM) QUOTE (zappafrank @ Oct 8 2012, 09:21 PM) Just wanted to throw something out there to test the waters: I'm in Pittsburgh and am considering the Cleveland show at the end of the month, but the trek plus all of the extra costs (gas, tolls, parking at the venue) are enough to dissuade me going (I saw them on the Pgh stop, and would be going to Cleveland for the alternate setlist). So, are there any other Pgher's who would want to team up to make the trek together? I'm not committed to making the show yet, so that's important to keep in mind. But I still want to throw it out there ahead of time just to get a feel for things. Thanks! (FWIW, I'm also considering the Ian Anderson show in Akron the next week, though I still need to pick up TaaB 2). What trek? It's an hour and a half at best! It's a little more than 1.5 hrs, but it is an easy drive. Just get on the pike and drive west.
  5. QUOTE (zappafrank @ Oct 10 2012, 02:08 PM) My friend used to play in a tribute band that had the perfect name for a tribute band that only Pittsburgh could provide: Caress of Steel City. The logo was the Starman against the Steelers logo. But back to the original post: still would love to hear from people if this is a possibility. I've always thought Caress of Steel City was a most excellent Rush tribute band name. Do they still play?
  6. Manchester, Pittsburgh, Toronto #1, Cleveland and still working on Houston. I guess that's 5.
  7. QUOTE (professornutbudder @ Sep 25 2012, 09:25 AM) You're not crazy, at least no more than the rest of us. I'll admit, when I walked out of the show last week, I felt that same pang of "man, that may be the last time I ever get to see them play". I even felt the sting if a tear in my eye when I started thinking about that possibility. I've been listening to these guys for well over 30 years. To say that their music has been a part of my life is a serious understatement. I endured ridicule in high school for being a fan of "that guy with the big nose", heartbreak in the late 90's when I was sure they were gone forever, and felt elation learning they were coming back with Vapor Trails. I'm sure that someday we'll all wake up to find our favorite band is no more. But until that day, and I'm sure long after, they will continue being a part of my life every day. So, are you crazy? No more than me. I just spent 5 minutes explaining to a group of strangers how crazy I am. Well said, I always have the post concert blues, especially this tour. It's been weeks since my last show and weeks until my next and I'm still depressed about it. It could always be the last time and that makes me sad.

QUOTE (HigherWater @ Sep 19 2012, 08:17 PM) QUOTE (MCM @ Sep 18 2012, 09:18 PM) QUOTE (BriGuy @ Sep 17 2012, 10:17 PM) Forgive if it has already been posted, just came across it myself: http://old.post-gazette.com/pg/12257/1261259-388.stm QUOTE The rule of thumb for old bands arriving with new albums is basically: play three or four of those songs (we'll pretend we're interested) and then get back to the hits. Kudos to Rush for riding into Consol Energy Center on Tuesday and boldly making the new "Clockwork Angels" its dazzling showpiece. Another Picksburger! Consider the source on this review, he's a good writer, I actually look for his review every day in the paper, but for some reason almost every time I read his reviews they make me angry. He seems very concerned with Ged's wardrobe. I follow him on twitter and he made comments the night of the show and the next day about Ged's jeans and t-shirts.. He's usually favorable in his reviews of Rush shows, but it's almost grudgingly and backhanded. But, what do I know. I totally disagree with you on this. I think this is an outstanding review. He touches on things that only someone who understands Rush could possibly write. I have to wonder, what do you want? Should his review read like a Coming Soon poster? I thought his comments about Ged's get up were great and I'm certain Geddy got a kick out of them as well. I guess you have to remember just how BAD reviews could get back in the day to appreciate just how nice this is. Not saying it's a bad review, my opinion comes from reading his reviews, columns for years now.. He is really the only one writing reviews of rock, pop, etc shows in the Pittsburgh market (where I live) I kind of have a love/hate relationship with his writing. He goes to, and reviews a lot of shows that I am at and most of the time we seem to be a totally different shows. Sometimes he tries to be too witty and too hip, like he's trying to hard. Most of the time I read his piece and then proclaim him to be a tool. But I still read his column in the paper every day... I know how bad reviews have been in the past, but it's trendy right now to think Rush is cool, so take it for what it's worth.
  9. QUOTE (zappafrank @ Sep 18 2012, 09:24 PM) QUOTE (MCM @ Sep 18 2012, 09:18 PM) Another Picksburger! I was there, too! Where were your seats? I was last row of the first section in the center. Seems like that seat was closer to the state at 20 rows than my 18th row seat in Manchester. I got some great pics of all three of them. I happen to love the setlist and thought it was a great show. I didn't see that the crowd was dull, at least not where my seats were. Will you be going to Cleveland? It's just down the road a bit, easy drive.

Then who was that band on stage kicking my ass all night? Exactly. I was at this show that the OP seems to think was so awful. I've not seen Rush 70billion times like some, but I've seen them enough to know that this show DID NOT SUCK! Hmm... I was at that show, too (hey we're both from Pittsburgh!!!), and it was awesome!!! That is why I was confused by the OP's statement. Guess all we can do is wish him well. Yup. Pittsburgh here! Hopefully I'll get to catch you at the Cleveland show? I hope to drive over a day early to take in the Distant Signals show.

No, he's not, and it was. QUOTE Indeed, Pittsburgh's art scene, job prospects, safety and affordability make it the most livable city in the country, according to measures studied. The city has rebounded from its manufacturing past. Disused steel mills have been repurposed into multimedia art centers, and amid a struggling national economy, Google ( GOOG - news - people ) Pittsburgh, a test site for the company's new high-speed broadband network, has expanded its offices to accommodate more hires. As for not having an NBA team - all I can say is, THANK GOD! Hate basketball. MLB, NFL and NHL are quite enough, thanks. And for anyone who happens to like basketball, we got college level to keep them entertained. Pittsburgh is an excellent and exciting city to live in. I'm not missing an NBA team at all either.

Some beautiful shots of the beautiful fellas...especially that one with the BASS Thanks for sharing You are very welcome. That's why I was so excited that the Pittsburgh ones were so good.. so I can share them with all the Ged Girls.. and ogle them at my own leisure also.

  16. QUOTE (rayrushray @ Sep 11 2012, 11:48 PM) The memo is out and the Pittsburgh fans got it. With an embarrassing curtain around all the unsold cheap seats and a terrible ushering system that forced me to stand in an unwanted line to get "better seats", I missed the first two songs because rush apparently weren't aware most of there fans were faced with this inconvenience. If only I had refused the upgrade and went to the exits early. The chances missed in life............sigh. After going on a tepid run through rarities that left even their hard core fans a little stumped for an answer, the band thankfully adjourned for an intermission that allowed the bored and dreamy a chance to catch up on email. The break allowed for me to scan the crowd: a good mix of dumbfounded older fans with deep wonder in their eyes and young kids who were mesmerized and taken in by a time machine last time out, only to be hoodwinked in to the current set, that had them hoping that Madonna or Culture Club might appear suddenly and save them from such lameness. In the highly anticipated second set, the high paying customers were treated to a disorganized group of string players who looked good, and probably would have sounded better if the mixologist would have done his job with a bit more savvy. As new song after new song was force-fed to the "High-Paying" customers, many in the crowd took extended breaks in the restroom, figuring rightly that security might be better company. By the time the new songs were lodged in everyone's throats, some real hits were ready to roll. Like Manhattan Project and Red Sector A.... HUH? What a joke. To lull a sleepy crowd from their doldrums, a lazy, out of place and momentum lacking YYZ segued into an often repeated reggae version of a very tired Working Man. Tom Sawyer appeared, without any true swagger, and 2112 was performed like it was a motion a band has to go through. I can't tell you what the closing video contained, because when disgust sets in, it's better to exit and hope for a safe ride home. Inconsiderate. Lazy. Thoughtless. Words That I never associated with Rush. The set, the arrangement, the videos, all of it. I saw it in the faces of the young and the faces of the old as they high-tailed for the doors, the momentum gained with the Time Machine Tour was lost on the Clockwork Angels Tour. Spare me all the, "Rush has been around a long time, and they can do what they want" Now that's whining........... A set list like this could have been great, if only it would have been plotted instead of mailed in. Return to Sender. Bottom Line: This is a terrible show, go and see it at your own risk. Of course, If insomnia plagues you, I think I have your cure. Obviously you were not at the same show I was last night.
  17. QUOTE (Kubla~Khan @ Sep 9 2012, 06:49 PM) I've tried to match up the set lists with the tour dates. If they decide to switch set lists between shows, here's what it might look like. This list is subject to change... and most likely will. Set list A & B 2012 Clockwork Angels Tour A- Sept 7: Manchester, NH - Verizon Wireless Arena A- Sept 11: Pittsburgh, PA - CONSOL Energy Center A- Oct 14: Toronto, ON - Air Canada Center B- Oct 28: Cleveland, OH - Quicken Loans Arena B- Dec 2: Houston, TX - Toyota Center Thanks for figuring that out, saved me some time. IF they hold to this pattern, then I will finally get the second setlist, but not until Cleveland. I'm still ok with that. I've read rumors that it won't be a back and forth switching of the setlist, and of course it's mentioned above that there may be even more versions of the show. We'll know tomorrow night in Pittsburgh!!
  18. QUOTE (Vive le Rush @ Sep 10 2012, 06:35 AM) MCM and gangsterfurious........I was looking and DROOLING at the new CA pix of Geddy from the opening night of the show, on Rush.com, and I definitely noticed that it appeared that Geddy had indeed lost some weight. He's always looked EXTREMELY HOTTT, but he now looks at least 5 years younger than he did last year!!!!! Geddy's like a fine wine, only much more satisfying!!!!!!!!! I was at Manchester (sorry, I can't stop saying that) and I thought all three of them looked fit and happy and enjoying themselves. I saw Neil smile more than once! It was so excellent!
  19. QUOTE (MCM @ Sep 9 2012, 04:50 AM) QUOTE (Yokkov @ Sep 8 2012, 04:15 PM) So me and my brother were siting tenth row right in front of geddy last night, and there were some points in the show where we really thought he was lip-synching. First, in that part in either clockwork angels or anarchist (i dont remember which specifically) where his voice sounds like he's singing through a radio, in the concert it sounded so exactly like the studio version, and also the volume went down when that started, and back up when the regular part kicked in. Also, that really high note in headlong flight was iffy. During one of the times he did it, he moved away from the mike, and the volume stayed exactly the same. Anyone else notice this? I noticed this also but I don't think he was trying to hide it at all. He sang the first line, someone triggered the higher part, at this point it was clear it was not him singing as he was turned away from the mic.. didn't look to me like he was even mouthing the words. I thought he blew a line in Grand Designs. His face was up on the big screen, I could see him looking at his monitor out of the corner of his eye, I think he forgot a word or two but he caught up quickly... did anyone else notice this? As I look at this now, it reads as if I'm being critical of the vocal which is not what I meant at all.. I was trying to say that yes, that higher vocal is not Ged live, but it is him studio. But they're not even trying to fool us into thinking that he's singing it live. If they were trying to hide it, then I'd be critical. But if they're triggering a sample and not even trying to disguise it then I don't mind it. they've never been shy about their use of samples, it's part of their showmanship.
  20. QUOTE (RushCanuck @ Sep 9 2012, 12:59 PM) I realize Geddy pictures have been posted elsewhere on this forum, but it's always good to zero into this thread to see the latest... so, anyone who is able to, please post CA pictures here! Here are the pics from Cygnus X-1. I don't want to copy and past his pics without asking but I can say that his seat was 3rd row on Ged's side, so you know what that means!!!! http://cygnus-x1.net/links/rush/concert-ma...-09.07.2012.php Lot's of GED! It looks like Geddy has dropped some lbs.. or his wife bought him new pants that were too big. At the show on Friday he made a comment about his pants falling down.. As the self appointed official "Geddy Pants Expert" note that again he has the bottoms of them cuffed up.. guess he just likes them that way.

    Zep

A few months ago I saw a "rumor" on Twitter about some Zep news coming up... Blabbermouth (take it for what it's worth) now has up that the 2007 O2 show is going to be released on DVD.. Merry Christmas Jimmy, maybe this is what he's been doing since '07.

  24. QUOTE (Shredder2 @ Sep 8 2012, 11:16 AM) QUOTE (Tombstone Mountain @ Sep 8 2012, 11:15 AM) QUOTE (Shredder2 @ Sep 8 2012, 11:14 AM) I believe Geddy wants to sing more later songs to where his voice can handle it. I guess that's why it was more of an 80s show. God bless him, i hated to see him strain last tour. Voice sounds good from what i've heard His voice was beyond amazing on "Territories". You got that right!
  25. I remember Max and also hearing Kim Mitchell's solo work on the radio. I grew up listening to radio out of Buffalo, NY. I think it was Rock 102, they had a DJ that spent about a week broadcasting from a cart on a ferris wheel. Radio ain't what it used to be.
