Well not long back from viewing the film. First impressions are that visually, the film is nothing less than excellent. Some strong performances from the lead characters as well. But why, oh why spend 150 million dollars on a movie and 2 bucks on the story?? Ideas that should go somewhere don't; ideas that shouldn't do; lame endings for some of the major characters; set pieces that seem to imply something disappear up blind alleys e.g the giant head, but there is zero discussion within the film about it's purpose or role? The ultimate problem is that old Riddles has spread his jam too thin. It's clearly a prequel which he's tried to incorporate within a stand alone film with the "big ideas" which aren't that big actually. And none of these elements is particularly succesful. 3 out of 5 tops. Just hope Angels doesn't disappoint in the same way!

I agree with some of this review but found the story a little more engaging and the prequel-esque elements more intriguing. I also enjoyed the (inevitable but embarrassingly un-anticipated) set-up for Prometheus 2.

Again, this movie has satisfied far more than anything else Ive seen so far this summer, which has been rather weak in IMHO

  2. Saw Prometheus last night and found it to be one of the better ones so far this summer.

    Far better than SW/Huntsman

Large screen is a must and we saw it in 3D. The movie has some really big set scenes and it looks amazing with that scale. There are some great scenes reminiscent of Alien and a couple twists keep things interesting.

Charlize Theron is awesome as usual. Is it as good as Inception? No. But it is the highlight of the summer so far.

    Loved it.

  3. I really don;t know what the big deal is about her. There have got to be other actresses that can really turn a line into something amazing. KS has zero appeal. Not only can she not act, she doesnt even have an amzing set of tata's nor is she all that pretty. Maybe she has naked pictues of the Weinstien brothers or something...

There was a teenage girl in Super 8 that was amazing. incredible chops. Where is she?

Mission is my favourite and one the greatest Rush songs imo.

Well they just played it in the S&A Tour so I don't mind them playing Prime Mover either. That's very cool tune too.

    tear inducing

    soaring guitars

  5. how ridiculous is it that people would sell their tickets if they trotted out a small string section for 2 or three songs THAT INCLUDED STRINGS ON THE ALBUM! I mean really people, are you so effing single minded that you cannot accept something other than electric guitars as part of the experience.

    Punks

  6. not entirely awful but nothing about it engaged me either. I found many of the scenes pointless. Charlize was excellent but I had the impression they wanted her in a box.

Kristen Stewart was boring as hell, I honestly don;t know if these are the roles she's taking or if she has zero range.

And Hemswroth was completely uninteresting, which was wierd because I loved him as Thor

    Yawn

  7. well that was completely un-watchable...they couldn't afford two microphones?

Screw the whole meet and greet thing, if a bozo like that can get an interview with Geddy, I'm gonna start a pub, get a press pass and start calling his management for an appointment.

  8. I think we look at music from that era through the prism of what limited content was available. Quite simply the size of the bucket of artists pales in comparison to what we have now. AND consider the fact that what was being produced was experiencing a technological explosion of experimentation and the lifting of corporate censorship and the expansion of artistic freedoms that were not common in the decades prior

I think there are a ton of talented artists out there now, but the sheer quantity is daunting and good talent is drowned out by the machine's desire to crank out numbers as fast as possible. Lowest common denominator wins so we get Gaga, Beiber and crap like Lil Kim.

Im an old guy so I have my generational experiences, but trust me, great music is being made today.

  9. On the last tour they played Florida 3 times, which I thought was stupid.

They played Tampa, then closed the first leg of the US TM in West Palm Beach Oct 2010. they did a quick europe leg and and then opened the 2nd US leg in Ft Lauderdale less than 6 months after the West Palm date.

It'll be almost two years since they've been in central FL though, but I'm surprised that this date did not sell out or even get close.

Of course if I was RUSH and making a couple hundred $K in one night, I would tour as much as the market would allow

Ive started playing the guitar again and have been going through their entire catalog. I'm a 48 yr old so I grew up with Zeppelin, but I gotta tell you, I have a whole new appreciation for them as song writers and performers now.

It would be nice to just to be able to buy a ticket. Wasn't the general admission tickets supposed to be on sale already? confused13.gif

tickets are on sale through TM now.

I'm on the aisle seats towards section 5 so not too concerned about being too far to one side. right where I want to be!

Very encouraged about how close we really are now!
