  1. Clapton at Hyde Park is also great for me

RIR-best performance ever & all time worst audio and video ever

OK, don;t laugh...Madonna's Truth or Dare was a pretty good film. Ignoring all the stupid shit she does, the directing, audio and camera work was top notch. She is a great performer.

LZ's SRtS has some great stuff on it too.

  2. SRV.

No one has the chops AND plays with the feeling SRV can put into the blues as JH played it. All the above mentioned players are mentioned just because I think they are favs of the poster, not because the player exemplifies Jimi's style and presence.

Bettencourt, Bonomassa, Vai and who ever the BucketHead dude is are all great players but JH and SRV (and EC) are in a class by themselves.

  3. Epic, Epic. Epic.

I have read the books and yes, they made a bunch of changes. But the bottom line is the fim is exceptional. The acting was first rate, the dialogue worked very well. The directiong was terrific. I was tearing up and sniffling in several scenes.

BTW, I'm one of those people that seperates the books from the films and takes the celluloid on its own merits and this one soars.

THAT is classic. I think he was sitting on the bed next to little Lisa as she's trying to pour her heart out and he's distracted by something stupid.

I trust what my brothers, friends, and what TRFers say about films before any movie critic. yes.gif

Indeed. Thus my inquiry to the feloow friends here.

  6. Has no one seen this?

My 15 years old son's friends have seen and say "Blech". Being they are known for their discriminating tastes, thought I'd check here to see if anyone thought it worthwhile. My wife keeps wanting to go becuase Ryan Reynolds has great abs facepalm.gif

  7. I'd read a few bad reviews on this and after the last movie, which I classify as horrible and ponderous, I really dreaded going to this film. But alas, two teenage boys control my wallet.

I'm not going to get into a big dissertation on the plot lines, you can read that by people paid to type, but I will tell you that the movie provides a good share of funny moments and double dose of serious eye-candy in the way of epic action sequences and super hot blonde babes strutting in underwear, the light dancing on her little blonde hairs, her tight panties...oops. got a little distracted there....

Anyway, My wife, two boys and I pretty much agreed we enjoyed it more than either of the other Txfr films. A couple of the sequences are ridiculous of course and you must let your imagination stretch, but over all a good film that has some insanely detailed enourmous effects.

BTW, there were some pretty suggestive lines that I felt had no place in a movie written for an 8 yr old. It went right by me, but the wife thought it was inappropriate.

Go see it. Fun. Worth the money in 3D even.

  8. listened off and on to AD since I was a teen after my instructor turned me on. like him but honestly don't stay in touch with his music that much.

Thanks for the post and the memories! Great player...

  9. Just got the new TTB album and what a true joy this album is. Great musicians writing excellent music. Derek steps out just enough but we are mainly treated to Susan Tedeschi's voice and writing. Full horn section backs up the Bonnie Raitt stylings.

If you want something to just listen to and kick back this is it.

Amazing the wide range of likes and dislikes on this great album.

Mission IMO is one of the great Rush songs of all time. Inspiring. The outro solo (especially live) is goos bump inducing.

The lyrics are some of my all time favorites from Neil. The bridge is sick musically.

    AWESOME.

    Too late!

The drum riffs at the end of Lock and Key are pretty kickass, I had forgotten about that.

Like I said, Neil most definitely did his part on Hold Your Fire, and so that keeps this one a good distance from the cellar.

Lock and key is awesome. the ending is phenominal

This band does Nothing for me confused13.gif

Yeah I don't get the interest in this band, to me they sound like the kind of music that features in teen drama shows, the kind of throwaway alternative rock that is used in a fight scene in One Tree Hill or something.

Aye one-riff, tin foil poser rock for teenagers and oldie rockers who are desperate to be trendy and paranoid about being into too many "old" bands...

If you knew anything about me your opinion might be a little different. I won't venture to shove a peg in your hole but I will tell you you couldnt be further from the truth.

I only care about enjoying what I listen to. And I enjoy this disc, thought I'd share... so moon.gif

You must have seen yourself in my post I suppose. Don't feel too bad about what you see there, you are what you are and it's all good...

K, as the OP and FooFi fanboy du jour I took it that way. S'all good. wink.gif

  14. QUOTE (Kelly D @ Jun 18 2011, 09:53 AM)
This is lifted mostly from my posts on rushisaband.com but I thought I'd post my story here, too. . .

I got a front row ticket, Alex side, to the El Paso show. I made a sign saying it was my 23rd birthday (cos, well, it was) with caricatures of the Gershon's Haus of Sausage guys and me and hung it on the barrier for part of the show. . . Alex saw it during "The Spirit of Radio" and mouthed "Happy Birthday!" to me. I could've gone home ecstatic at that, but it got way, way better. . .

Not only did Tony G. give my friend and me picks before the show, I had a conversation with John Arrowsmith (dapper chap that he is) and he took a pic of my sign for the Rush on the Road pics. My friend also got a roadie to give me a red Geddy pick. We had a blast in the front row- it was a truly special time, especially since the guys goofed during "The Spirit of Radio" and "Workin' Them Angels"!

Al's roadie Kevin gave me a blue R30 pick saying "HAPPY BIRTHDAY KELLY" on the side of his signature during the beginning of "Tom Sawyer." He told me "He [Alex] did this during the break" and I gazed at it, shocked. No freakin' kidding! HOW DID HE KNOW MY NAME?!

Shortly after that, I started crying, and Al started making fun of me from the stage (throwback to Cleveland, where I cried during "Closer to the Heart" and he made the same face at me). I pointed at him and jokingly told him to "shut up! Stop mocking me!" with a huge smile on my face.

Michael Mosbach (Praetorian) also came up to me in the beginning of "Red Barchetta" and handed me a pair of Neil's used sticks biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif They have the alchemy symbol for copper on them, they're scuffed up, and they're beautiful. Michael said something to me but I couldn't make out what he said.

What happened next though was something I NEVER imagined could be:

I accidentally took a picture with flash during "Caravan." I freaked out and then a few minutes later during Neil's solo Al's same roadie Kevin walked up to me and said "Come with me, and take your camera." I thought he was going to confiscate my camera!

I asked "Am I in trouble?!" and Kevin said, "You are definitely not in trouble." What I saw, as we walked on the side of the stage, was Alex sitting listening to Neil's solo. He got up and I threw my arms around him and said "THANK YOU." As Kevin fiddled with the camera I said, "Ya know, I've always wanted to ask you something- 'do you like to party?'" - a stupid little aside from the Trailer Park Boys movie Countdown to Liquor Day. He laughed and we finally got the picture to work. I hugged him again (nice and sweaty) and said that I met him last year and that I am so thankful for him and a bunch of other coherent hooey. I also told him "Bubbles shoulda been your guitar tech for the Boston show" - alluding of course to the infamous "Still No Guitar" rant. . . he liked that, too biggrin.gif After some more Alex snugs and more wishing of a happy birthday, I left and returned to my spot in front row.

Here's the pic. We look so happy! wub.gif

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v283/dancingdays/random/IMG_0662.jpg

    And that's not all!

During the beginning of "Closer to the Heart" I just rested my head on the barrier and cried a little bit because I was so flippin' happy. I pulled out my sign (with my hand-painted picture of the three Gershon's Haus characters and me) and when I caught Alex's eye, I pointed out that Slobovich and I were right next to each other, mirroring the picture we had taken minutes earlier. He grinned at me.

During "2112: Overture" Geddy came over to our side of the stage and I pointed out Gershon on my sign to him and he made a face at me ;D

Alex tossed me a Slobovich shirt and I wore it for the encore. It's the one that said "Books are for tourists"!

Lots of grooving, lots of gaffes, and a general liveliness was there last night! Alex was goofing around, smelling his pits during "Tom Sawyer," waving at random people in the audience, and joking with the girls who stood with Darin and me in the front row.

At the end, when they were waving goodbye to everyone, I blew Alex a kiss and he blew one back to me. Absolutely incredible!!! 1022.gif

    I am so jealous...

one of my lifelong dreams is to spend a couple minutes with Al, he and I are two peas in a pod. My wife says I look and act just like him. Goofy as can be. tongue.gif

Soooo happy for you! That's something you can cherish for a lifetime.

  15. QUOTE (Yokkov @ Jun 19 2011, 04:49 PM)
I adore this album! I only have it on vinyl, but I wish I could listen to it everywhere. My only tiny problem with it is that on my first and second listens, all of the songs sounded identical, only a few stuck out.

Identical? There are maybe three songs that sound the same maybe. However DG does use similar arrangements in many cases using pauses and fade outs only to jump right back into the main hook. Beats the shit outta the same old "verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus-chorus-chorus" structure that is nearly everything today.

    I love it.

  16. QUOTE (ghostworks @ Jun 17 2011, 09:02 AM)
one of Bon Scott's many gifts was that he was versatile

from angry ballbreaker to comic dandy - sleazy womanizer to commiserating bluesman (sometimes all in the same song wink.gif )

Brian Johnson is one-dimensional by comparison

and yes, that one dimension is awesome when used to its fullest potential (FTATR, Hell's Bells, Back In Black, Nervous Shakedown)

with extremely rare exception, there isn't a Johnson-era AC/DC song that wouldn't be improved by replacement with a Bon Scott vocal

    NECKTIES!!!
