  1. Actually, I prefer their compilation of 90's material, "Turds".
  2. Hey Presto, I'm surprised by your statement--I thought you were a huge KISS fan. I would still agree with your decree about VH. With DLR they were totally on fire and untouchable. An utter phenomenon. KISS is cool too
  3. As a gift I got The Heavy Metal Box and Loudness' 'Crazy Nights' is on it. It freakin rules. Do they have many more songs that good? "Wok n woll cwazy niiiigghhhts, you ah the hewoes tonight!" Just awesome.
  4. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Sep 20 2009, 09:35 AM) QUOTE (Weakly Criminal @ Sep 20 2009, 05:09 AM) Also, I'm wondering if an instrumental can be an epic? Doesn't an epic require subject matter by definition? Only if you say it does. La Villa is an epic. There are PLENTY of long instrumental tracks in the prog universe that to me are as epic as songs with lyrics... Its an epic that happens to be an instrumental. Or vice versa. Take your pick, but its an epic. I says so.
  5. Sorry, but I think this song is totally over-rated. Really its a collection of songs with only 'In The Valley' and its reprise, 'The Fountain' connecting the whole work together. And serving as the opener and closer of TFOL, they are quite mediocre. No One At The Bridge and Bacchus Plateau are the only real genius on side two, but this is only a third of TFOL. The Necromancer needs a lot of work too. Don't get me wrong, I still dig these songs, but they simply don't come close to other epics like 2112, Xanadu, Hemispheres or La Villa Strangiato.
  6. 1. Snakes & Arrows 2. Signals 3. Caress Of Steel 4. Grace Under Pressure 5. 2112
  7. QUOTE (ReRushed @ Sep 10 2009, 08:32 PM) I read a post on another message board that speculated a possible scenario for 21. 24 may be dead, but if you think about it, he may very well be back. His head landed in 21's lap. I don't know about that (altough it is a cartoon, I know). I hope Brock doesn't fade away from the story line. Maybe his voice (Puddy from Seinfeld--can't remember his name) isn't as accessible anymore. It seems Season 3 got too wrapped up in developing characters and forgot how to be really funny. I'm glad I still got it on DVD because it has grown on me and I look forward to Season 4.
  8. I am as big of a Star Wars fan as I am a Rush fan, but wasn't too impressed with Fan Boys. Some funny moments for sure, but it was kind of weak.
  9. I love the way Harris' bass just clanks away on 'Sea Of Madness'. Since this thread was originally about overlooked tracks, I've always thought 'Caught Somewhere In Time' was one of Maiden's very best songs. My favorite from that album--always has been.
  10. I totally agree with your review of Paul's studio album. I always thought many of these songs could go on Dynasty (which is sorta the last classic KISS album in my book) or vice versa. I'm generally pretty busy but have been trying to read up on some of your reviews. Great job--I agree with about all of them except Creatures Of The Night. Sorry, but I think it is boring and lacks much feeling. The title track, I Love It Loud and War Machine are the only songs it has going for it. Lick It Up was a much stronger effort from this line-up. Keep it up!
  11. Yes, they did put Maiden Japan on the second CD of the Killers remaster, when they re-released their first 9 studio albums and LAD back in '95 each with a bonus CD of the respective album singes' b-sides. The Killers' second CD also includes a live version of Phantom Of The Opera and the b-sides Women In Uniform and Invasion. Frickin' KILLER!
  12. I agree Fear Of The Dark is a weaker Maiden album, IMO their weakest with Bruce. There are some cool songs on it besides the title track for sure. From Here To Eternity is energetic and upbeat song for a somewhat melancholy album. I agree with Prestodigitation that you could fit a piece of paper between the margins of greatness between NOTB and SSOASS to paraphrase. Really you could do this with the first seven albums IMO. Here's how I would rank Maidens studio albums: 1. Number Of The Beast 2. Piece Of Mind 3. Seventh Son (a mesmerizing epic with a cohesive song cycle) 4. Powerslave (middle songs not as strong as NOTB and POM's) 5. Killers (Maiden's heaviest, such a dark vibe) 6. Iron Maiden (weak production and no Adrian but classic songs) 7. Somewhere In Time (how great is Maiden's catalog that this is 7th?) 8. Brave New World (closest to their classic era) 9. Dance Of Death 10. A Matter Of Life And Death 11. No Prayer For The Dying (more energy than FOTD) 12. Fear Of The Dark 13. The X Factor 14. Virtual XI
  13. I haven't watched too much TV since my freshman year in HS--and I'm 36 now, so there has been a definite lapse. But heres what I have picked up on that holds my interest greatly: LOST Venture Bros. Family Guy Seinfeld Sopranos Timeless classics for me: WKRP in Cincinatti M*A*S*H Star Trek--the originals
  14. After SM2, I thought the logical thing for SM3 would have been for Parker to obtain the black costume, rely on it to take on both The Lizard (a McFarlainesque CGI version would have been awesome) and The Green Goblin (Harry) at the same time, then rid himself of the symbiote in the end to beat the two with his original blue and red. Then the fourth episode should have been the return of the symbiote as Venom (a well done one though), with a guy like the one who played Sandman, not the kid from That 70's Show! Oh well, its ruined now...
  15. I love all of the Star Wars movies, the new ones have the feel, just not the strength of the central characters (referring to Christiansen and Portman mostly). 1. Empire--arguably the greatest sequel in movie history. 2. Sith--this one has it all, although its a bit crammed (60% of Lucas's orignal story line for the prequels is in this one) 3. Star Wars--this has the original magic, the best dialogue (besides Empire maybe) Its hard putting Sith before this one. 4. Jedi--OK, the Ewok thing wasn't the greatest and it was filmed in Lucas' back yard, not to mention Vader turns out to be Jonathan Winters, but it still has Ford, Fisher, etc. and the Jabba and Deathstar parts were awesome. 5. (TIE) Phantom--possibly the best written story line in the saga, but too kid friendly. Even if you still kept Jake Lloyd, Lucas should have changed Jar Jars voice, made the pod racers and announcers less Disney like would have improved the film greatly. Clones--Awesome action, killer scenes, but the story line has some pretty big holes and the Padme/Anakin romance interludes are somewhat unsettling.
  16. 'Heavy Metal' was a term more loosely used until the NWOBHM in the late seventies/early eighties helped solidify the parameters of pure metal. A lot of hard rock bands like Zep, VH, KISS, AC/DC and Rush were often referred to as heavy metal. So with that being said, I will leave out these titans, even if they do have deep roots in the beginnings of metal. My favorite metal bands: 1. Iron Maiden 2. Slayer 3. Metallica 4. Black Sabbath 5. Ozzy (sorry, not the same as Sab) 6. Pantera 7. Exodus 8. Megadeth 9. Black Label Society 10. Judas Priest 11. Anthrax (Joey Era) 12. Sepultura (Max Era) 13. Motley Crue 14. Motor Head 15. Morbid Angel
  17. My wife told me the news on the phone last night. I said, 'I bet he was jerkin off'. She responded, 'Thats terrible'. I was like, 'No seriously, wait for more of this to come out'. Suicide didn't make sense, and I heard he was getting ready to go to dinner with some friends. Its too bad, but apparently he was the master of another art. RIP David.
  18. I am only familar with Balls To The Wall and Fast As A Shark. Great songs and Udo is a killer singer. Maybe I should look into some of their stuff...
  19. Rush is 18 studio albums into their career, Zeppelin finished with 8 (OK, 9 if you include Coda). The Boys just went way beyond what Zeppelin ever realized--and drugs began to take their toll on their productivity before Bonham's death. Zeppelin are rock gods and one of my favorites, but Rush are the greatest. Period.
  20. Upon hearing about Heath Ledger's death, I selfisishly comptemplated about who could reprise The Joker's role. Johnny Depp seems the strongest candidate to me. I would like to see Clay Face in the series too. Or is he too sci-fi for the francise?
  21. Oh yeah, and whats up with Tom Cruise in this new Nazi movie? He doesn't even attempt to do a German accent. Its like Costner in Robin Hood. F--kin' disgraceful.
  22. I haven't seen The Duke as Gengis Khan, but I don't need to see it to know it would be rotten. I would have to go also with Hayden Christiansen as Anakin, and there NEVER should have been a nine year old Anakin to begin with. They should have started Episode I with Anakin as a teen and have the cyborg Vader appear earlier and woop some Jedi ass. Because I am such a Tolkein fan, I was pretty disappointed with Vigo Mortensen as Aragorn. He was actually a stand in, because the original pick cancelled at the last minute. Vigo was way too soft for Aragorn, although the movie script misrepresented the character anyway.
  23. Wow, a lot of great movies listed so far. I can't believe I totally forgot about The Holy Grail, The Life Of Brian and Fast Times At Ridgemont High.
  24. 1. Caddy Shack 2. The Big Lebowski 3. Spinal Tap 4. Anchor Man 5. Office Space 6. The Life Aquatic 7. Old School 8. Freddy Got Fingered 9. Meet The Parents 10. Friday The top three are set in stone for me, you guys got any suggestions?
