  1. Don was wonderful before losing his pipes. I met him many years ago for Phil Kennemore's Cancer Fund Rock N Roll Bash. Everyone says that Don is an egotistical douche but he was really nice to me!! Do you guys have the Don Dokken solo album "Up From The Ashes?" It's another metal masterpiece. JMO Peter Baltes on bass from ACCEPT. John Forum from Europe on guitar. I saw that show at The Stone in SF. It was was incredible. They played "Balls To The Wall!" Lynch on the the other hand was a dick when I met him at The Edge in Palo Alto. I have that album I think it's better than the debut Lynch Mob album from the same year. I love the first Lynch Mob Pat but heck yes! As usual I totally agree with you! Don't solo debut is better!!! I like the Lynch Mob of course but at the time I was a bit disappointed and Don Dokken delivered the winning album. It's a bit like a mini Eat em and Smile vs 5150 situation. David Greg Steve Billy WHAT A BAND!!!!!! A bit of useless but personal trivia. The first concert I ever attended was Van Halen in 1980 and the opening band was named TALAS. The bass player was none other than Billy Sheehan. The first concert I attented was Van Halen 5150 in May of 1986, then Ozzy in July, then DLR in Sept. Holy shit did those three concerts set a precedent. EVH, Jake E. Lee, Vai and Sheehan. All those bands were unstoppable then.
  2. The true Hulk would punch a hole through Kong's chest. No disrespect to Kong, but I know they're redoing a King Kong vs. Godzilla which is laughable--the lizard is way bigger than Kong and breathes fire and has lazer vision...how is that fair? Yeah, I'll probably go see it though...
  3. I love the first three Danzig albums. Danzig 4, Circle Of Snakes and Deth Red Sabaoth are pretty good too. As much as I love Danzig, I've only owned 1-4 (classics) and 7. I've heard songs from Red Saboath and it seemed hit and miss. I should check it out again. Shitty movie...lol.

  5. This isn't an All-Time Greatest list; although if I really had to it would be similar--especialy the top twentyish. I am not counting proto-metal and classic hard rock that was loosely referred to as 'heavy metal' back in the Seventies, ie., no AC/DC, Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, KISS, early Rush, Deep Purple and yes, no Rainbow (I know). To me, and many others, heavy metal became solidified as a genre (and subsequent genres thereafter) once TNWOHB emerged onto the scene like a muti-headed dragon ridden by RJD, engulfing popular music in flames. I'm sure most who bother reading my list will disagree--but remember, these are my favorites and I'm probably forgetting some titles. Also, it's obvious a handful of bands definitely get preferential treatment, bumping some killer albums from the list. To be continued...
  6. Killing Fields--Slayer Epidemic--Slayer Hot For Teacher--Van Halen One Little Victory--Rush Pain Killer--Judas Priest Territory--Sepultura The Wolf Is Loose--Mastodon
  7. I knew Disney would trash the franchise when I first heard they bought Lucas Films. But I figured it would be after Episodes VII-IX. Rian Johnson torpedoed this trilogy with the shit sandwich called The Last Jedi. I expect The Rise Of Skywalker to be better, but too much damage has been done to set this right this ship.
  8. Van Halen is my third all time favorite band. Sabbath is my seventh. I prefer Roth's vocals because he matched the edginess and swagger of the band, but Ozzy is f***ing great too, so....
  9. That is THE greatest "speed/thrash/whatever" heavy metal album of all time. No, MOP is the GREATEST METAL ALBUM OF ALL TIME, not just thrash. This doesn't include all the great proto-metal and 70's hard rock when'heavy metal' was a term loosely thrown around and undefined before NWOBHM helped cement the genre. I still don't like it. Not surprising considering you think Opeth is great :) Seems like you're easily surprised. I'm disappointed in you treeduck :codger: . But yes, Opeth is great.
  11. I would typically vote for Crue, but I've had the first three Ratt albums in heavy rotation in my truck lately. Warren Demartini is sick. I'm voting for Ratt to make it interesting. I dig Dokken too. These are the only three glam metal bands I really give a damn about (although I really dig Cinderella's debut).
  12. I agree. Great tour though.
  13. First of all you need good songs. Lol. But to answer your question, I've always been a huge fan of albums that have a song cycle and continuity. I heard this term 'song cycle' a long time ago, and the way I think of it is an album having variation, continuity, a beginning, middle (typically a centerpiece song) and an end (or denoument). In other words, it feels like you are taking a journey. Good examples of these are: Hemispheres; obviously a strong beginning--18 minutes worth! a middle--the 2 shorter songs serving as an interlude-like middle before one of the best album closers of all time. Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son; Great songs w variation starting with an ear catching intro, a stellar centerpiece song in the title track, a nice interlude song with The Prophet and a romping finish with Only The Good DIe Young. Incredible continuity from song to song, with the themes really tying the album together. Led Zeppelin IV; Grand opening with one-two punch Black Dog and Rock & Roll, incredible variation from song to song, ie. The Battle Of Evermore, a awe-inspiring centerpiece song, Stairway To Heaven, Four Sticks has an interlude feel to it, and possibly the greatest closer ever with When The Levee breaks. This album feels is like experiencing a change of seasons. This is why I've always held it in a little higher regard than Physical Graffiti, cohesiveness and undiluted excellence from song to song. Great albums don't have to have this song cycle quality to them, but when it does it only can make it better.
  14. KISS when I was 4 in '77. But I wasn't a hardcore fan until I heard Pyromania and Shout At The Devil around the same time in the fall of '83. Mick Mars' guitar tone on Looks That Kill totally put the hooks in me. And then I soon discovered Ozzy, Van Halen and Iron Maiden too. I've never been the same.
  15. I f*ckin love Scorsese and totally awe at his abilities as a director. I can get where he's coming from--he probably hasn't read many comic books and doesn't see them through a fan's eyes. Several of the MCU movies could probably appear pretty superficial if you aren't familiar with the characters and general storylines, especially if you casually check out one or two here and there, and mainly because of the hype. I'll give him a pass; the dude directed Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Good Fellows, Casino, and The Departed (all favorites of mine), not to mention a slew of other classics. Keep cranking out bad ass movies, you old bitter f*ck. Lol.
  16. Pulling this one right out of the ass... 1. Faeries Wear Boots 2. Children Of The Grave 3. Symptom Of The Universe 4. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath 5. After Forever 6. Spiral Architect 7. Into The Void 8. Wheels Of Confusion 9. Iron Man 10. (TIE) Wicked World/ Sweet Leaf
  17. I dig T4E, but I still rank it 18th out of their 19 albums. I like every song on this album, but love none of them; which I can't say about any other Rush album except maybe RTB.
  18. VHI & II are their most similar albums. VHII is kind of a continuation and I love it--totally think it is underrated, but I still think VHI is a little better. 1. VHI 2. FW 3.VHII 4.1984 5. DD 6. WACF 7. 5150 8. ADKOT
  19. If only one album per band (sigh) and Including live albums... 1.Moving Pictures 2. Master Of Puppets 3. Live After Death 4. Van Halen I 5. KISS Alive! 6. Reign In Blood 7. Led Zeppelin IV 8. Paranoid 9. Blizzard Of Ozz 10. Are You Experienced? 11. Bonded By Blood 12. Danzig I 13. Peace Sells But Who's Buying 14. The Doors 15. Shout At The Devil 16. Among The Living 17. Blood Mountain 18. Blood Sugar Sex Magic 19. Defenders Of The Faith 20. Surfing With The Alien
  20. All time...but things get a little unclear after #10. 1. Rush 2. Iron Maiden 3. Van Halen 4. Slayer 5. Metallica 6. KISS 7. Black Sabbath 8. Led Zeppelin 9. Judas Priest 10. Ozzy Osbourne 11. Exodus 12. Megadeth 13. Pantera 14. The Doors 15. Jimi Hendrix 16. The Misfits/Danzig (the music of Glenn Danzig) 17. Red Hot Chili Peppers 18. AC/DC 19. Mastodon 20. Motley Crue
  21. This is like hand picking survivors from a sinking ship...only a few deserve to die. But here we go... Dance The Night Away Mean Street Little Guitars Honorables... Atomic Punk On Fire Somebody Get Me A Doctor Sinners Swing Unchained 5150
  22. I like RTB, but it's probably my least favorite because most of the songs sound uninspired; there isn't much emotional weight to much of the album. Dreamline, RTB and Where's My Thing (YYZ Lite) are my favorites from the album, but still not classics. The band sleepwalks through Face Up, The Big Wheel, Neurotica and You Bet Your Life. And songs that have a little more depth to them like Heresy and Ghost Of A Chance aren't that good--Bravado is decent though. It's ironic, because RTB helped get me back into Rush after they were fading from my radar due to my lack of enthusiasm from HYF and Presto (I was pretty absorbed with metal in highschool, although I dug ASOH upon its release), but RTB is my least listened to Rush album anymore.
