  1. Instantly for me, with Atwas, my first intro into Rush.
  2. I approve! Love the Hemispheres one especially.
  3. Ive been here maybe 2x in past year. Sorry, cupcake.
  4. These threads like this bc Neil as we all know is retired and no amount of complaining will get him back to drumming. Neil isn't retired, toots. He's in chill-mode watching interest build while lol-ing to himself over all the pissing and moaning he's created. Master troll confirmed.
  5. Again, they are only using fear and decay of time to build interest for next, higher-payday tour. Of course, eventually, Neil will prove to be the finalizing factor for Rush, but by then Leefson will have holographic technology on their side to allow his substitution!
  6. Its called building tension, folks. Psychology of creating exaggerated "value". Don't be so naive, lol. Instead of baiting us, they should be putting efforts into making palatable music.

  8. If you believe Rush is done touring, then you are as dumb as they hope you are.
  9. Lets make a poll to predict what Geddy's affliction will soon be. TSMountain- please put us together a photo of Rush onstage, all wearing medical prostheses with stageside time-machine-icon-emblazed oxygen tanks and life alert stage passes around their necks. This is getting ridiculous.
  10. Sure, there will always be ppl who will play instruments. Just like those who still play board games, rather than computer games. Also, who thought electronic paddle shifters would cause the extinction of manual drive ones? Never wouldve believed my cars would have them. Would I ever go back to driving manual? Not a chance! (Ok, perhaps if I bought an old exotic!) As far as electronic music being just a blip, you are mistaken. Electronic music has been around longer than Rush has, and will predominate most all genres of music from now til the end of time. Ive been listening to it with great interest since the mid-70s. And, btw- historically-speaking, who in the music industry never stole or sampled music from other people? Each member of Rush certainly did!
  11. Well, Rush has been influenced by new wave and dance music in the past. Bringing in other ideas is nothing new to them. And Geddy and Alex may continue to be influenced by other genres in their future work. But Rush can't really be influenced by anything anymore since they no longer exist. My only concern is that they're probably too unmotivated and tired of the beaten into the ground routine they've been on for decades. Geez, I can't even entertain the idea of watching people play musical instruments anymore...seems so archaic, bygone, im afraid to say :( I know you think you're sounding edgy and plugged in by writing that but it's really just ridiculous. Sorry, but that's your level of thinking, not mine. I am done with live instrumental performances. I just don't see the magic in it anymore. Feel like I've evolved out of it. Traditional musical instruments have been tapped out. There's nothing left to do that's innovative or different. Largely, its the end of the line for this modality of music production, imo. If it wasn't for musicians how would DJs have anything to sample or spin? What makes you think "DJs" aren't musicians? I think you don't understand the modern definition of "DJ", no disrespect intended. I'm surprised the very term "musician" isn't archaic to you. Surely DJs have evolved beyond using the same word that's used to define guitar bass and drum Homo Habilis types. Perhaps, DJs should be called Electronic Instrumentalist Titans or Homo Instrumentalists. I'd never say instrumental musicians are archaic. Just the traditional instruments they play are, imo. Eventually all traditional musical instruments will be relegated to playing second fiddle (no pun) to electronic music.
  12. Maybe Rush is the wrong band for you? Maybe Rush is the wrong band for you? I will always love Rush and their music. I doubt I will ever see them (or anyone else) play live again unless its Rush at an intimate historical venue like Massey hall. At this point it would only be interesting to have a conversation with them (which I know will never happen).

  16. Neil's not going anywhere. All of you who believe this are being played. Its called marketing 101, ffs. Looking toward electronic music isnt as preposterous as it seems. Fact is, imo, Rush is having difficulty producing music that is different, stirring, or interesting....again, imo. Certainly wouldnt hurt to explore the current stuff thats out there. No doubt in my mind they can find fresh inspiration if they dig deep enough. Again, im not suggesting that they produce edm songs...just observe the dynamics of the music. I have listened to Rush and other rock acts since the mid-70s. Recently, I needed to move on from all of that because it has become stale to me, and many acts trying to produce have hit the wall musically. Electro music is invigorating and stirring....some of it is outstanding and deep, and im talking about the non-mainstream stuff. If Rush are smart, they would consider any newer forms of music to take inspiration from (and electro or techno music has been going since the late 70s...ive been a follower of it since that time).
  17. Hello everyone! Been taking a hiatus from all instrumental rock music for the past 2 years, focusing purely on electronic music of all genres and artists, including Deadmau5, Eric Prydz, and many, many others. I will eventually return to the old stuff, but I have to say I've heard some magnificent and exotic bass lines and percussion sounds/patterns along the way. I cant count how many times Ive had a moment where I said to myself: "Wow! I can see Rush using this stuff!"". I am only suggesting use of the complex bass and percussion patterns/architecture (as well as synth-spiration)found in electro music. Perhaps they already do so, but I think it is important for the guys to listen to the SXM electro stations, 51, 52 and 53 purely for inspiration for their new music. I know most of you will balk and deride me for ever suggesting this, but remember when Rush sacrilegiously incorporated rap? I was immediately aghast! Now it doesnt seem so bad, especially in the context it was used. And, btw, Rush has always been about progressing forward with their music, adding popular elements like reggae and 80s synth, and grunge....why not continue doing so? It makes sense and I can see brilliance from embracing inspiration from electronic music. Anyway, miss you guys, and see you more I hope! Time to hop into the Giallo barchetta for a spirited Sunday a.m. drive!! :D TC.... Kurt
  18. A brilliant milestone to their history. My first and most emotionally connected-to Rush album. Hi all, btw! Hope you guys are well :] Kurt
  19. I think his original intention was to usurp his idols and contemporaries on every "legitimate" level, and to create a reputation of "genius" in the rock world. Now he is unintentionally eroding it all, lol. Maybe he rly just gives zero fcks at this stage of the game.
  20. So did you get a tingling sensation? No tingling. That sensation is reserved for women only! I did experience a warm wave of optimism and excitement :) Many lols at the gang signs! Its so important to not stay rooted in ur accumulated ways. Btw, I never thought I'd be listening to the BPM channel on Sirius (EDM) as much as I do in my 50s. Its can be so powerful and positive...and new! I hope you're digging into Daft Punk--flawlesshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRJOk7z4mws Lol. For now I'm done with old stuff and retro. My favorite now is Deadmau5.
  21. Please, never stop trying new things just because you're a certain age. Thanks. I rooted myself from the past after my divorce!! :)
