  1. The only Rush song with violins in intro! (The violin strings wrap themselves around your heartstrings). Neil playing is so so relaxed, like he knew this was his last song, and he was good with that. "The arrow flies while you breathe" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyGq5G7S3Vk&list=RDiyGq5G7S3Vk&start_radio=1
  2. KK and the Victims of Changes, KK's Waterpower, KK Downing and the Drowning, KK and the Moonshine Band... Winner, winner! KK and the Moonshine band made me spit out my pie! HAHAHA!!! This is the kind of forum fun I LOVE!!! So awesome! I LOVE MY FRIENDS ON HERE! RUSH FOREVER!!!! FUKK KK Living After Noon

  6. What do you consider the duds and the other bands and albums that were forerunners? I think my main issue is when I started listening to them in early 80' there was so much out there that I never got into certain songs or albums. After Born Again i did loose interest for a while. Other bands, we need another thread for that discussion. Seems like it came from different directions(bands) around the same time.
  7. Sorry. Agreed. Another thread is needed for the other issues. Especially origins of heavy metal.(I'm just learning myself). Black Sabbath definitely is a major major contributor. Black Sabbath was released on Friday the 13th according to Wikipedia. So when did they start doing gigs? 69 or earlier?. Seems once they got the record contract they had so much material that they could get on one album.
  8. J2112YYZ, Sure they sounded great, but they had some dud's too. There were other forerunners bands and albums too, though not as successful as Black Sabbath. I first heard We Sod Our Souls For Rock n Rock, which had a lot from Paranoid and some MoR. J2112YYZ, treeduck, What I meant was the Black Sabbath sound didn't start with the Black Sabbath album, it was already there, but they spread it on two albums.
  9. Yes. The second album is more definitive as "heavy metal." forerunner.
  10. This intro is actually recorded by Cliff Burton. He said, there are 9 or 12 harmonies there, and a number of sound effects. https://andriyvasyle...tro-totalcliff/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6o3MWY5Ljw
  11. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjpF8ukSrvk
  12. So they released two albums in 1970?! https://en.wikipedia...Paranoid_(album)
  13. Holy Sugar And Spice! I haven't cried like this since early January. Thank you very much for posting!! Greatest Military in the world, greatest band ever made in the world! My mind has been blown!! GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS!!!! GOD BLESS GEDDY ALEX AND NEIL!!!!! INCREIDIBLE! AMEN! Just plain beautiful!
  14. Many bands aren't Rush. It's not what they do. Really? They re-recorded Vapor Trails
  15. No offense but what's special about that album? I could never really get into it. How is it heavy metal and not psychedelic rock? What songs should one really listen to? (Hey I was actually born near Birmingham! So Sabbath is in my blood)
  16. I'm glad I met Mike at an after party on his birthday on the Metal Allegiance Tour last year. He was very nice. We talked about Neil and Rush for about five minutes. I didn't bring up DT, but it was a good conversation. Mike is a great drummer but he will live in the shadow of Neil FOREVER! You probably were best not bringing up DT. Things could have turned ugly if you'd worn a Distance Over Time t-shirt or A Dramatic Turn of Events t-shirt! Was Bobby Blitz at the concert you saw? Bobby Blotzer? Who is Bobby Blitz? I wore my "Hemispheres" t shirt to the gig because I knew I had afterparty passes with my buddy Dan. He is good friends with John Bush from Armored Saint. Mike loved my shirt (obviously) so it sparked and incredible conversation about RUSH and NEIL........ He's Overkill's lead singer! Yep! He was there. Not into Overkill! Sorry!! Give me Testament and Death Angel! I love all those bands and Overkill KILLS! Your opinion doesn't count on the subject Earl, you just disqualified yourself! Hahaha! I was disqualified decades ago. I can't stand Slayer or Exodus either and I know a few guys in Exodus. Great guys. Are you sure you like Testament?? Hahaha! Are you trying to take away my Testament card? I do have most of their Japanese pressings. Seen them twice. But are they my favorite in the Bay Area Thrash scene? Nope! Give me DEATH ANGEL! I'm friends with a few of those guys! Those guys are great. Saw the last Death Angel Christmas show. They always put out 200% live!
  17. Yeah, that's what I found interesting as well! I didn't realize he was so well grounded in Rush! For sure. His meticulous work (back in DT days) on hi-hat and cymbals is very Neil influenced.
  18. Where was Billy Sheehan? Was he too busy talking about not turning down the Van Halen gig in the 80's? My bad. Getting my Mile Portnoy bands mixed up. it was actually a Metal Allegiance show. How do you like those Metal Allegiance albums?? They are ok. Side project for many it seems. I hadn't seen Portnoy in a long while. They had alot of guest singers including Chuck Billy..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LBI9RnVUOM I have the albums I think they're pretty good. There's another one with Portnoy and Bobby Blitz, they have an album out later in the year but I think it's just a covers album. Yeah, they like doing a lot of covers, and they share the stage with so many musicians. Recently they had Dave Lombardo (another of my favorite drummers) playing with them at a LA show.
  19. Many examples of bands re-recorded albums here... https://www.ultimate...-recorded-54155

  22. Don can't get his hands on them now so he's off them Earl. Unless they come over to give him a handjob...he needs help now... Poor fella. He probably can't even get it up. Signed, "Just Got Lucky" He's not far off 67 Earl, nearly as old as Rob Halford, but it seems like he should be a lot younger than that. Probably because the first Dokken album was first released in 1982 and the first Priest albums was issued in 1974. Absolutely, Donnie boy got a late start. What do you think of the last 10 years of George Lynch projects? Don't mind me butting in.........The Sweet & Lynch 2 albums were quite nice.
  23. I must say that this is a very interesting question. I've been on here since 2006 and I don't ever remember reading about the possibility of Rush re-recording the first Rush album with Neil on the drums. As I agree, the band instantly went forward but I would have liked to have heard Neil lay down those tracks in the studio. Just for fun! For sure! According to https://www.setlist.fm/ while touring Neil played Working Man about 900 times compared to John Rutsey's few apperances. Neil played Finding My Way about 307 times and In the Mood about 1000 times.
