  1. Brilliant! I think they do know. I truly hope so, anyway. They do know, well they are aware of this site at least. A few years ago, I think 2007, I was at the Detroit show wearing my TRF t shirt and Michael (Neil's bodyguard on tour) walked up to me, pointed at the logo on my shirt and said nice shirt. If they are that aware of TRF, I am sure they are aware of the posts and how awesome all you members are.
  2. I COMPLETELY AGREE! We'll need the set-list that Rush is going to play, so we can all listen to the songs at the same time. :Alex: :Neil: :geddy: No, no no. :tsk:
  3. I hope you realize this is all coming across as a childish temper tantrum. You're blowing it way out of proportion. eh, you're probably right. I talk like this with people I'm close with and it's not taken seriously, on a forum it's different. by the way, my dad told me that years ago, I didn't go ask him today because of this thread. that really would be childish...and insane. digital man, sorry I seemed like I was going off. I read your original post in the wrong tone I guess. and at the end of all this, I still don't even have a definitive rush ranking! Noe that's funny sh*t right there. No worries man, it's all good.
  4. I didn't say don't you dare, I just said I don't understand the compulsion to categorize and rank everything. I just said I wonder if it's a younger generation thing....because my kids do it too, they are 13-16.
  5. are there foods you don't like? a pair of shoes you would wear before another pair? trust me, having personal tastes and preferences is not a "young person" thing. and you were really a rush fan for 20 years and never once thought about liking one album more than another? that's a lie. That was a little defensive. He's got his opinion, doesn't mean it has to line up with yours. his opinion seems to be that opinions are something that young people came up with. I think you're missing the point. It's not opinions but the ranking and categorizing of them. That's right, it's not the preferences, but actually RANKING this better than that. I told you about my bias towards Permanent Waves and why. EagleMoon is right there is a reading comprehension issue. I said I had been a Rush fan for 20+ years before TRF started up. And I don't lie, I'm a lot of things but I am not a liar. You shouldn't make comments about people's character if you've never met them. I really never just thought about which album was actually better than another, sometimes an album fits a a certain mood I'm in but that doesn't mean it's actually better musically or lyrically. I guess if maybe people didn't get into huge arguments over these "lists" it wouldn't be so bad. Yes, but he is a Rock Critic. It is his job to do that.
  6. Apparently, it was! :codger: :haz: I have no idea what the first post was. See the 'Welcome bardan!' thread in the Rush subforum...JARG booted it up, and asked if it was the first thread. But 73 posted in it that this one is. So...the first post in this thread is apparently the first post ever on TRF. I have no idea where that thread is. I can't find it. Here 'tis: http://www.therushfo...20#entry3470809 :) Oh my goodness! I just read the very first thread! Awesome! Thanks, Blue J! :) :) :) The Bardan thread came to be when the Forum was about 6 days old, 1001 posted a link to probably the second ever thread, after this one.
  7. What if you're listening to Counterparts? ??? Not sure what you mean, unless you are saying Counterparts is terrible all the way through.
  8. I don't get this whole ranking idea. I was a fan for 20+ years before TRF. I never once thought about which album I liked more than another. I wonder if this is a younger generation thing, needing to categorize everything? What's my favorite Rush song? The one I'm listening to when you ask me. When it's over and the next one comes on that one is my favorite. The only album that has some significance to me is Permanent Waves. It was the album that got me into Rush ( I wore out 3 cassettes listening to it) and it's the album that got my little brother into Rush a few years later, he was about 5-6. So much so that during the visitation before his funeral I had the album player on a continuous loop at the funeral home.
  9. I probably have sharper memories of that time than you. You are the first friend I made moving to this stage of my adult life.
  10. Yes, this was the first post on TRF, it was a Sunday afternoon.
  11. Mention it.......that was so wrong and just disgusting, IMO. Mick Oh yeah, definitely mention it. She was so very in the wrong. This was really the main issue. She was told of the mistake and stood there a minute after checking her order slip and then went back to the kitchen, presumalbly for the salad. She came back with a plate instead, I thought she was going to ask sunny to put the cornbread on the plate. She leaned in a few times before actually grabbing it off Sunny's plate and came back a few minute later with the salad.
  12. She has a lot of support. So just say that in the comment when you donate. I am keeping track. Has anybody donated yet? Generally this board does not allow any sort of crowdfunding or public pleas for donations. The only reason this thread wasn't shut down immediately was because you've been a member here since 2010 and we wanted to see where this was going. I am of the opinion that good deeds such as sending a particular person to a show should be done in private. Like in a group PM amongst a number of people who all know each other, something like, "John2112's been a member of TRF for years and he's never seen Rush and he can't afford to go, so let's pool some money together and buy him a ticket. Who else can we bring in on this?" That sort of thing. I'm not sure how I feel about having people donate money, then a decision is made on who gets a ticket. Also, please pardon me -- I am a born skeptic. I land on the skeptic side of the field as well. I just think if someone is going to this out of the goodness of their own heart, then do it privately, not publicly. Contact your friends privately that you know may be able to help out and get it going privately and then contact people in the Rush community if you want to give them a ticket. If this had been spontaneous and our members had pm'ed each privately to raise money for a ticket for someone that would be better. I remember, way back when, when a member had their car broken into and a lot of stuff stolen? Someone started a PayPal or something and we all chipped in a few bucks so they could go replace their new cds. The member had no idea had no clue until we had all the money together. Here we all know Lorraine and are willing to chip in for a ticket for her, but we've known her story all along and that she has a legitimate need and deserves a show. I agree with 1-0-0-1 here: I'm not sure how I feel about having people donate money, then a decision is made on who gets a ticket. My skeptic side thinks there are people who will write a great "story" just to get a ticket. I know Rush fans are a better breed than most rock fans but there are still those type people out there.
  13. I am the lucky one, in many many ways. This board was Mike's brainchild but I'm not sure how far it would have got without 1-0-0-1 and Ghostgirl to help him get it rolling. After Sunny and our kids, those three hold the next best place in my heart.
  14. Geezo. Incredible..... You should see this view in person....she's even more amazing

  16. I've decided to attend this shindig. Wanna go with, Lorraine? I have a circa 1976 light blue tux with big ruffles and white shoes. I'll borrow my dad's Chrysler Cordoba and bring a bottle of Peach Schnapps. Went to the Prom in my Fly Blue rental Got six girlies in my Lincoln Con-ti-nen-tal
  17. My date is the Hindu Goddess of Death.
  18. This movie is fantastic. The audio did overpower the dialogue in a few places, unfortunately once or twice during critical dialogue. I was very surprised at the amount of technology, science and theories that are used. There was a lot to absorb and understand if you aren't familiar with those ideas. They did go a good job of explaining it, but as PM said sometimes they went a little too fast and some of the theories weren't explained in enough detail. I was fascinated with the blackholes and worm holes and they did a phenomenal job with all of it. I think it was a bit of a risk to put so much technical science into a main stream movie, but they pulled it off. It's funny that Sunny said it was a mindfuck, when we were leaving a couple behind me were talking aout it and the is what the girl said too, "That totally fiked with my head." Visually stunning. The depiction of the scenery was awesome. (I use that word with it's actualy definition, not the slang term it is usually used as) I didn't even notice the soundtrack exxept when it got so loud drowning out the diagloue. Easliy 9 out of 10.
