  1. QUOTE (Tombstone Mountain @ May 23 2012, 09:14 AM) QUOTE (rushgoober @ May 19 2012, 07:03 AM) I guess the problem with such a long wait for an album (considering it was announced 2 years ago) is there's just too much damn time to give the situation a lot more thought than it probably deserves. My skepticism about CA, despite the stellar pre-release industry reviews, is growing. The problem is, I'm just not digging the first three songs. HF is definitely better than the first two, but even that I'm finding a chore to listen to. If it wasn't for having heard one-quarter of the songs already, and not getting into them, I would be excited. I thought S&A was a very good album, and I liked or loved more than half the songs. With CA, IMHO we're not off to a good start. I'm still hoping for 1 or 2 great songs. I feel I'd be REALLY lucky to get 3. When I'm really honest with myself, however, hoping for 1 or 2 great songs, and thinking 3 great songs is probably wishful thinking, isn't really that great. It seems a long, long time ago that it was a given that a new impending Rush album would be consistent and awesome. People keep encouraging me to appreciate new Rush for what it is and not compare it to their old stuff, and that's all well and great, but the songs still have to be of at least a certain quality for me to want to play them, and what I've heard so far isn't quite making the cut. I know "dread" is a strong word to use, but I'm just not looking forward to what I fear will be yet another late career, sub-standard release. Some will say I'm setting myself up for disappointment, but I feel if anything I'm trying to prevent myself from being disappointed by keeping my expectations, based on my experience with the album so far, in check. I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than have unrealistic expectations crushed. Don't get me wrong, I will get the album the first day of release and devour it ASAP. I WILL listen with an open mind, and I truly WANT to love every new song, but my hope and enthusiasm is dwindling. I'm anxious about it, but not really in an excited way - more in a wanting to get it over with way. Feel free to accuse me of excessive negativity if you must, but these are my honest thoughts on the matter. It might not be the most popular point of view, and I'm sure I'm in a small minority, but I don't think I'm the only one who feels similarly either... after reading rushgoobers comments on the tracks not cutting it, or being sub par for his tastes. Back away from the crack pipe and get the help you need from a intervention of some kind. This album already is one of the best "sounding" efforts they have made---ever!!! How can you dread this newest offering when it obviously kicks so much ass??? IMO Rush sounds fresh and energized thanks to the production team they chose and the strategy to get the best playing they could muster. Rush has finally come full circle!!! RushGoober get a clue and crawl out of the darkness. You sound pretentious...and ultimately---childish Cool first post, bro. Because he doesn't agree with your opinion, he is childish? Might be the other way 'round.

I may not have been around here long enough to have my name known, but at the very least I'm not known as the biggest ass hole on this message board who spouts his hatred of Rush while pretending to love them. Forget RushHater, Goober suites you well. You're actually looking a bit like the asshole there, bub. Yeah, but since he's concluded that we're exactly like CP, he'll never be back to read your very astute observation. Good riddance to bad rubbish then, I say.
  3. I know this is a reiteration of what most of this thread says, but can we please wait for the album to come out before we speculate about these kinds of things? It's really hard to answer questions like this when we haven't heard it yet. I'm gunna go listen to BU2B now because I gave it another chance the other day and I am starting to dig the song again.

  5. QUOTE (snowdog2112 @ May 23 2012, 10:08 AM) Was... was that actually serious? I'm seriously doubting it.
  6. I really do like this album a lot despite obvious sound issues.
  7. QUOTE (ioc @ May 21 2012, 07:36 PM) Fortunately, I have a friend who makes T-Shirts. I had him print me up one of these: That's pretty funny.
  8. QUOTE (SchemingDemon @ May 21 2012, 07:13 PM) Nice artwork! You need the Rush shoelaces to go with those shoes I myself have zero creativity, and even less drawing skills, so my concert fashion just includes plain old Rush tshirts I saw the rush shoelaces on the website recently, and I thought about getting some

In fact, in the starman picture, the matte medium was still drying. Sorry about the crappy cell phone cam quality, just wanted to share. Want to work on some other stuff but need ideas.
  11. Uh its pretty amazing. When I was 6th in 07, Geddy pointed at me. Probably the best moment of my life But yeah just rock out and have a good time. The band is so close to you, it's just so awesome.
  12. Masterpiece. It looks amazing. Hoping to see it early. Ugh. Can't wait.
  13. QUOTE (rushgoober @ May 19 2012, 12:22 PM) QUOTE (GeddyLeefan2112 @ May 19 2012, 09:59 AM)I always find it surprising whenever I read your threads, how much you like S&A but aren't getting into Headlong Flight. It's not to say that I don't like S&A, there are a few songs on there I absolutely love. In fact, when I first heard Far Cry, I believe I said something to the effect of "This is the best Rush song in a very long time". Far Cry is a stone cold classic (for a song that's only 5 years old!) - even without anything resembling a real guitar solo, it's just pure awesomeness - fantastic, inspirational, exciting, timely lyrics with a universal appeal, melody aplenty, etc. I wish I could say any of the first 3 songs on CA were in that same league. Great musical chops and cool instrumental breakdown sections aren't enough for me for a great song unless it's an instrumental where Rush is concerned. The lyrics have to move me. QUOTE (GeddyLeefan2112 @ May 19 2012, 09:59 AM)I don't know, man. I'm excited to see which goobs thread we see when CA finally comes out. Will be it that the album is actually awesome? Or will he just confirm that his fears were correct all along. I'll be the first to admit that I was wrong if I love the rest of the album, and the happiest person here that I was wrong. Even though some don't want to believe me, I truly do listen open-mindedly and give the new stuff a more than fair chance. I WANT to be wrong about the new album! I don't want to spend $15 and come up with nothing other than keeping my collection complete. I haven't even given up on the first 3 songs yet, and maybe they'll grow on me. Well, I pretty much have given up on Faithless Part II (sorry, BU2B ) unless the lyrics suddenly somehow greatly change their meaning in the context of the concept, but from what I've read about how the songs are supposed to be able to stand alone as well, I doubt that will happen. I feel the same way that you do about BU2B. It's hard for me to even listen to it anymore. I do feel that, musically, it is a great song, however, the lyrics don't speak to me and they feel quite tired. It just feels "preachy" I guess. We get it. You don't like religions. Can we move on please? I just don't care about religious lyrics at all, for or against. So I can't get into them. It's kind of frustrating to because, musically, I feel Faithless and BU2B to be very strong songs. But I don't feel the lyrics at all. And that makes songs suffer for me. I also value strong lyrics that I can find a deep connection with. I feel the lyrics to Headlong Flight are quite strong, but not as strong as Far Cry, I would say. I do like Caravan but the song sounds a bit awkward to me. Far Cry's lyrics are just so moving and inspirational, it makes it hard for me to believe anyone doesn't like that song. I don't know. I'm mildly excited for Clockwork Angels but I'm not as pumped as I was about 2 years ago. Headlong Flight bumped me up from indifference.

In fact, when I first heard Far Cry, I believe I said something to the effect of "This is the best Rush song in a very long time". However, I find the majority of that album to be rather weak. As good as Far Cry is, I believe Headlong Flight to be better. And I'll agree that Caravan and BU2B aren't as impressive as a lot of people are saying. Not to say I don't like the songs. I do like them. But Headlong Flight really elevated my level of excitement for this album. \ I don't know, man. I'm excited to see which goobs thread we see when CA finally comes out. 16. I'll tell another story about people scoring awesome seats the day of. Back in 07 in Columbus. Venue was Germain Amphitheater. I managed to score row 6, Geddy's side like a week after tickets went on sale. Couple sitting next to me got their tickets only a few hours before the concert.
  17. Korn is a big one for me. I can't stand them. Never have. Never will.
  18. It's a fun show to watch, for sure. I don't necessarily believe in the paranormal, but the movie theatre that I work at is purportedly haunted. Didn't believe it at all when I first started hearing about it, but I have definitely seen some weird things and heard some weird stories, so I don't know.
  19. QUOTE (GeddyLeefan2112 @ May 12 2012, 10:03 AM) This will tell you how popular cornhole is in Ohio. I live in central ohio. There's a strip mall my boyfriend and I often go to as there's a lot of good places to eat around there. We also pass by this house, that has like 8 different custom cornhole boards out in front of it. And the sign is like "get your custom cornhole boards here!". Last time I passed by there was one with a skull, one with the Jagermeister logo on it, one with Captain Morgan on it... mmm those are all the ones I remember. As you can probably tell, drunk people like playing cornhole. I think its so weird that outside of Ohio people see us as "rednecks". Guess they haven't been to Ohio.
  20. Did this forum suddenly lose the ability to take a joke? This thread is mind boggling.

  22. QUOTE (friendlyfloridian @ May 12 2012, 06:44 AM) QUOTE (GeddyLeefan2112 @ May 11 2012, 04:30 PM) QUOTE (friendlyfloridian @ May 11 2012, 03:07 PM) QUOTE (GeddyLeefan2112 @ May 11 2012, 03:21 PM) QUOTE (friendlyfloridian @ May 11 2012, 02:10 PM) QUOTE (drgrendel @ May 11 2012, 12:38 PM) Quick to judge indeed... Right back at you. I have the same right to my opinion as yours. I am not the one trashing you for your beliefs. But whoa I come on here asking for some opinions and I get trashed. Not good. You would have thought I started a religious debate. I do think people jumped you a little heavily and didn't really understand what you were trying to say. What I got from it was that while it is 9:12, it is kind of ambiguous as it is hands on a clock and without knowledge that its a reference to 21:12, one might mistake it for being 9:11. Where I think you fell off the wagon a little bit is when you said that it was "in bad taste". Saying its in bad taste means that Rush meant to be offensive with this cover and meant to invoke feelings about 9/11. This is almost certainly not true. Agreed. I don't think that Rush did it intentionally but I still think it is a close resemblance to 911 and in bad taste. Okay, we're going around in circles here. My point was saying something is "in bad taste" means the speaker or author or what have you meant to be offensive. Rush obviously did not mean for anyone to think about 9/11 when looking at this cover. My question to you is, when The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers came out, did you think the title of that movie was in bad taste? No because didn't Tolkien write that many years before 911? Sure, and didn't 2112 come out years before 911?
  23. I really hate the stupid picture shares from groups or whatever. I hate all of them.
